About 'network favoritism': yes.
About 'demographics': no.

Gossip Girl is produced by Warner Bros. Studios.
Reaper is produced by ABC Studios.

All the networks 'favor' the shows that are produced in-house.

If Reaper fans want the show to survive, they have to do their own promotion. So, take a page out of dumont's 'Under One Roof' hype and spam every message board on the internet with an announcement that Reaper is returning tomorrow night, Tuesday, at 9pm on CW network. Of course, to really do it up dumont style, the Reaper fans would have had to start spamming two months ago. Wink

I think CBS has a grudge against ABC for blinding the "Eye" (network) in some opportunities. LOL

I plan to focus half of my little icons tomorrow on Reaper and the other half on Boston Legal. Need the latter to do well too in hopes that Women's Murder Club does worse next week. Yes, I hope that show flops so Boston Legal stays on Tuesday.

I rate REAPER's chances a bit higher than some do. The net's "desire" to do without the show is not the same as "being" able to do without it. Their dream of a female 18-34 network will not be realized overnight, if at all. Not a fan of the show, but i have it at 60% chance of returning.

On WMC, keep in mind that no matter what it does in its trial, it is highly unlikely it would remain in the 10pm tuesday period next year. Its partial overlap with the SVU aud would be "murder."

I hate DAWN OSTROFF as President of CW Entertainment!

Fact is "Reaper" gets NO off network promotion, if no one watches the CW for commercials they don't see the ads, i've seen "OMFG" billboards all over town and in magazines, no such love for Reaper. The CW also promoted the return of GOSSIPGIRL with a constant ADBUG Mad by the network logo,7 days, 6 days...to Gossip Girl returns, is another example. The truth is most people have never heard of Reaper, and most people choose to ignore Gossip Girl.

The CW is pathetic, they also force People Magazine owned by Time Warner Wink to pimp this crappy show on the public with constant profiles on their actors, hoping we all believe that Gossip Girl is a hit.

On another note, networks should not need to promote veteran shows outside the typical season premieres and time period changes.

I love the show, but I had no notice it was returning! The advertisement leaves something to be desired. Why put so much energy into the OMFG campaign for Gossip Girl and none for Reaper?

But to add something, I disagree with this. The writer's strike had a huge unforeseen impact on the schedules of shows. There SHOULD be advertisement to get people back into the normal routine again. Outside promotion for veteran shows is completely reasonable, it's part of how you expand a fan base and bring in new watchers.

I remember reading somewhere on these forums that since Gossip Girl is owned by Warner, they can advertise as much as they want, because their paying for it. Since Reaper is owned by ABC Studios, they have to pay for any advertisement and that's why you see more promotion for Warner produced shows on The CW than any other. With that said, Warner 'went all in' and every single promotion dime went to Gossip Girl.
