Pavanbadal has posted his predictions for The CW 2008-09 season at:

link to sitcomsonline

I disagree with pavanbadal in his outlook for Sunday...I think they will do what they should have done long ago, and program theatricals from the CBS and WB libraries from 8-10 pm, leading out of three hours of Easyview from 5-8 pm (2 hours scripted encores, 1 hour reality encores).

I also think The CW will go all-comedy on Fridays, with EHC / AiA / The Game / new sitcom.

Other than that, I think Pavanbadal's sked is pretty close to what we'll end up seeing.

dumont,

Variety agrees with you in this week's issue on the Sunday theatricals. Makes a lot of sense to me. Schedule seems very reasonable otherwise.

I don't see Aliens returning so this many repeats is certainly possible. The best decision would be for movies to air on Sundays right now with Chris and the Game leading into Styledom on Wednesdays. I think they'll hold Filthy Rich Girls and go Austin Golden Hour this fall (or at least they should). Three teen centric hours with very very similar shallow rich kid themes is just too much. I like Reaper with OTH on Tuesday but I would switch the timeslots because Reaper would probably weather weekly head to head airings with Idol better than OTH and then provide the CW with a strong 9pm Tuesday presence. I also like using Gossip Girl at 9pm Monday leaving the slightly easier 8pm hour open to the new 90210. Austin Golden Hour would work behind Top Model and then stay with the current Thursday block.

If this is anywhere close to what the CW’s actual fall schedule looks like, we may need to start writing this network’s obituary.

The first problem is too many repeat airings. “The Game”, “Everybody Hates Chris”, and “Reaper” (along with the pre-existing reality encore on Sundays) is just too many hours of repeat programming. Are Ben Silverman and Jeff Zucker secretly running the CW now in addition to NBC?

If “Austin Golden Hour” (please, CW, change this series’ name!) is ready to go by fall, why bother holding it until midseason? At this stage in the game, CW does not have the luxury of holding series back in favor of encore airings. Also, I was under the impression that “Styledome” was being slated for a summer airing. Why would CW also give it a regular fall season slot without knowing how it will perform first? Perhaps I’m incorrect about this and “Styledome” will actually be held until the fall.

Throughout its inception, I’ve always tried to give CW the benefit of the doubt concerning their moves, but to go forward with a schedule remotely resembling this one could be the straw that finally breaks the proverbial camel’s back.

The only positive I see in this schedule is having at least one "established" (i.e. not new) series on each night. Otherwise, this schedule is pretty pathetic - kind of like the CW itself.

I agree that this schedule is nothing more than the guesswork that goes on in this forum. That many repeats just so the 'guess' could avoid the lower rated reality shows is silly.

I do think that a 'movie night' is likely as it is the easiest way to fill hours. Even if it isn;'t slotted in at the start of the season, it will likely exist before the season ends.

Also, if EHC can crank out episodes so fast (they were done before the strike), then EHC could get a supersized episode order and a bunch of those (r) wouldn't need to be (r)'s.

Let's not forget that Dawn is still wanting comedy's. I think I remember her saying that she's waiting until summer to pick-up comedy's. So you never know, with the lawsuit with The Game, it could be booted and AiA's ratings are a mess, so it could be gone too.

You just never know with this network. Movie night would be a good idea, since Warner has a good batch of them. They could get a new audience just off a movies, if they play their cards right.

I see a few problems with this schedule. First off, there are too many encores. CW is not going to program Reaper encores. If Reaper comes back, it will likely be originals on Friday. Also, Austin Golden Hour will appear on the fall schedule. CW needs to put all of their new shows in the fall and hope that something hits. It isn't the time to keep one of their dramas in reserve. I also doubt that OTH will pair up with Reaper on Tuesdays when they have three soap opera type shows in the fall that will be a better match. The rest looks logical and I could see happening.

Maybe EHC can pull good numbers on Friday! But if SmackDown! on MNT registers it season-average then EHC would have no match for SD!
