I don't think The CW will cancel the show precipitously, but I expect that they will take their time to issue a back nine (or seven) like they did last year for Veronica Mars and One Tree Hill.

If the ratings continue to slip on Wednesdays, I could see The CW re-jigging Tuesdays and Wednesdays to find a less competitive slot for the show (Tuesdays at 8 pm?).

The CW gave the 6 pm Sunday afternoon encore slot over to Gossip Girl, and that's a sign of confidence that should provide a little bit of extra viewership on a week-by-week basis.

I still haven't watched the second episode, but this may be a serial that takes a few shows to find its groove. I hope it does...I love the voiceovers by Ms. Kristen Bell.

Honestly, I think GG is well on it's way to cancellation. It got a 1.1 demo in 18 to 49 and a 0.7 demo in 25 to 54. It can't lose any more ratings or demos. Nashville was at a 1.0 demo when it got cancelled if I remember correctly. It's going to need a quick revival to last.

But Nashville was on FOX. Expectations are much lower at The CW

But the demo the CW is really looking at is the 18-34 demo. That is their target demo for its shows. I still think the CW will keep it on for a couple more weeks to see how it performs. It could be that people are waiting to watch the repeat of it Sunday nights.

Peace!!

Does anyone have the 18 to 34 demo for GG? It would be interesting to see what those numbers were.

Maybe Gossip Girl and Beauty & the Geek should swap time slots. Pussycat Dolls did well after Top Model last year and an earlier time slot might get more teen viewers watching.

From the CW press release:

quote:

At 9 o'clock, GOSSIP GIRL remained the top choice among younger viewers, ranking first in the hour among teens (2.5/9) and female teens (4.5/15).

Despite facing tough series premiere competition this week, GOSSIP GIRL retained 89% of its series debut audience last week in teens, 87% in female teens and 77% in women 18-34 (2.4/6).

GOSSIP GIRL's retention out of TOP MODEL last night was 81% in teens and 85% in female teens.

Thanks for posting the press release. I noticed that they broke up the 18 to 34 bracket to a specialized segment. If I had to guess from that, the overall 18 to 34 numbers weren't that good. At least, not good enough to publish as a whole.

It will get a full season and it will likely improve in time.

From this press release it sort of sounds like the big problem with Gossip Girl is that men don't watch it. I'd love to see the %change in male demos between GG and ANTM as well as the %change in African American viewers between the two shows.

I don't know the make up of characters for GG, but it seems directed right for the white, 13-20 year old female. WHy its placed after a show with such a diverse demographic is beyond me.

Here is an idea for the CW, Move EH Chris and Alien Nation to Wednesdays at 9 & 9:30. Place original GG on Sundays at 9pm and place encores of ANTM on Mondays.

Last season they let everything air one time before they started juggling the schedule. I guess after the Monday sitcoms air next week we will see if they start juggling immediately again. B&tG and Gossip Girl are in trouble.
Aliens in America got a good review on Variety.com, a place that normally ignores CW altogether. maybe the Monday comedies can hold up better than B&tG/GG? If not then CW needs to start deciding how many nights they want to build and how many nights they want to write off. I agree with you that EHC and AiA are more well rounded demo shows and would pair with ANTM well. I think Reaper would pair well with the rounder ANTM demos as well. B&tG and GG likely both skew to young, white girls, so maybe they should just be paired up and left to flounder together?

Beauty and the Geek isn't struggling that badly. It will increase this week with no Dancing in the hour and only a half hour of the Biggest Loser to deal with. Its basically GG and the newsmagazines that are struggling and I wouldn't move anything right away. It only made things worse last year.

I think these moves should ahve been done BFORE the season started. The schedule is a mess.

They must have been drunk and just threw darts at the board to set the schedule. Wink
