Babe Alert! '90210' spinoff lands AnnaLynne McCord

AnnaLynne McCord (Nip/Tuck) has joined the cast of CW's planned spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210, from executive producer Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars). McCord will play Naomi, a hot, rich, and popular Beverly Hills high schooler (is there any other kind?). There are still many roles to be cast for the drama, which is in contention for fall, but Thomas has already cast Dustin Milligan (The Messengers) as Ethan, a likable star athlete.

Published reports have said the spinoff will revolve around the Mills family, whose matriarch, Tabitha, is a 60-something has-been actress and alcoholic. Tabitha's adult son, Harry, moves back home to care for his mother. Joining him are his wife Celia, an Olympic athlete-turned-personal trainer, and their two 16-year-old kids who will may make up the new 90210 crew.

she played eden this season's nip/tuck Wink

Not bad casting at all. By appearance, she could definitely pull off the sexy "spoiled bitch from hell" from the character description. She also looks young enough. How was her performance on Nip/Tuck?...is she a good actor.

she is passable as an actress, she can play a "bad girl", but don't think she has chops to be a lead, not sure how big this role is...

She won't be the lead. She'll still be part of the main group but a secondary character.

Per TV Guide's website...

Lori Loughlin, formerly of the long-running ABC sitcom "Full House" and the WB dramedy "Summerland", has joined the cast of the CW's untitled "90210" spin-off series.

Loughlin will reportedly play Tabitha Mills, a.k.a. "the mom role" (i.e. the new Cindy Walsh).

On the rumor mill side of things, singer turned actress Hilary Duff has reportedly been approached to play Loughlin's on screen daughter, Annie.

Loughlin and possibly Duff join already announced cast members Dustin Milligan and AnnaLynne McCord.

I thought the 90210 cast was supposed to be diverse. All four of these actors (three confirmed, one rumored) are Caucasian. So much for "diversity". Roll Eyes

This will be one of the first CW shows with familiar names. Heading in the right direction (very slightly; for once)

No 90210 For Duff

Very smart move on Duff's part. She wasn't right for the show at all and unless they start casting some of the original members of 90210 (more than possibly Jennie Garth), this show will tank hard. No one wants to see a bunch of new characters with no ties to the old show.

it is a good move on Hilary's part, she wanted to diverse herself and expand her acting horizon and joining a teen soap defiantly will not help her in the long run. Look where Shannen Doherty or Jennie Garth are, both talented in their own right but have a tough time breaking away from their past 90210 persona. If Hilary really wanted to return to TV I'm sure she could do better than a CW series or for that matter a remake of a past craze.

The CW has shot down those rumors of Hilary Duff joining the cast of "90210 v2.0".

The network, according to TVGuide.com, confirms that Duff will not be playing the role of Annie or any other on the untitled spin-off.

Instead, Canadian actress Shenae Grimes will step into the role of Annie, a theater loving teen who is transplanted to West Beverly when her parents (one of whom will be played by Lori Loughlin, as mentioned above) move to the West Coast. (Annie sounds an awful lot like Brenda Walsh, no?)

Grimes may be best known to American audiences as troubled teen Darcy on Canadian teen drama "Degrassi: The Next Generation" which can be seen frequently on the Viacom-owned cable network The N. Ironically, "Degrassi: TNG" is a contemporary spin-off of the original series which aired in Canada (and in the U.S. on PBS) in the 1980s. (FYI: "Degrassi: TNG" has been renewed for a record 8th season by its Canadian producers.)

As for diversity, there is suppose to be a Middle Eastern character and an African-American character (both male). And that's about it (There is a character, Andrea Zuckerman-Vasquez, who is half Hispanic and the daughter to two main characters from the original version, but her role as of now is only a cameo role). I also thought they'd make the "rich, super hot, spoiled girl" into a minority too, but they obviously didnt either. Nonetheless, that's (sadly) way more diverse then the original version when it premiered in 1990

From TVGUIDE:

http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors...op-Jessica/800038538

It isn't Kelly Bishop, but this will do rather nicely: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Arrested Development's grande dame, Jessica Walter, has been cast as hard-drinkin', faded, '70s-movie-star Tabitha Mills on the CW's fast-tracked-for-fall 90210 update.

To recap: Tabitha is the grandmother of the show's central teens, siblings Brenda Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Brandon Walsh Dixon Mills. As I reported yesterday, Lori Loughlin will play the pair's mother. The role of the dad (and Tabitha's son) has yet to be cast.

I don't know about you, by my excitement about this show just swelled tenfold.

This Just In: Dirt's Ryan Eggold has snagged the role of Ryan "the teacher.
