I think that the CW is confused and thinks that it isn't 2004 and The OC isn't the hottest thing on TV. Unless 90210's pilot is beyond bad, I'd suggest with going with it instead. "How to teach filthy rich girls" seems like it'd make a better sitcom or not ever being produced... With Smackdown leaving the network, the CW needs to find shows that guys will want to watch and a soapy drama about terminally rich girls isn't it.
Not to say there shouldn't be teen dramas, but there are infinite ways to approach such material. The CW exec's just choose safety over innovation. They don't want to chart their own path. They'd rather waste time and effort in developing series that are imitating once "successes".

yikes pulling actors from failed series not a good sign, and he turns 23 this year, kind of old to play 16ish

I don't know who Dustin is but in his IMDB photo, he looks way too old to be in high school. He's 23 going on 30. In my opinion, the casting of the new high schoolers aren't as important as getting as many of the old actors attached in some fashion. A huge percentage of the people who are going to watch the spin off were original 90210 fans.

Didn't Andrea or somebody from the first 90210 turn out to be like 30 pretending to be 17? I know from watching Dawson's Creek, there was no way the actor playing Dawson was anywhere close to 15 year old character he played . That aside, I think that Dustin Milligan is a TERRIBLE choice. I know the WB had their own star making factor with Jason Behr (7th Heaven, Dawson's Creek, Buffy, Roswell), Chad Micahael Murry (Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, Lone Ranger, One Tree Hill), and Jared Padalecki (Gilmore Girls, MacGyver: The Next Generation, Supernatual). The CW seems to be doing that with Justin Hartley (Aquaman, Smallville, 8 Days a Week, Austin Golden Hour), but isn't going to give himm the painfully obvious right project *cough* [COLOR: GREEN]Green Arrow Series[/color] *cough*. Now apparently they're going to try and make Dustin a star, but the problem is that he wasn't likable in Runaway, nobody seems to be demanding more of him, and in my opinion, he lacks that "IT Factor." I highly doubt that casting him will be something that'll incline more people to watch. Grrrr.... why can't the casting directors read these forums and get ideas from us. Oh and for the record, I saw the Runway pilot and saw the actor candid on the ET special about the birth of the new CW network.

This may be apropos of nothing concerning the untitled "90210 Version 2.0" project...
While "The Hollywood Reporter" refers to the project as a spin-off, the website zap2it.com refers to it as a "contemporary update" which would seem to suggest something other than a spin-off (i.e. a new series that just happens to be set in the same location [high school] as a former popular series).
Could the CW and Rob Thomas possibly be less than agreeable to linking this new series to the old "90210" via character relations as opposed to locale?

according to IMDB (which i know isn't always right, but its been pretty reliable) Dustin Milligan will also be in the next new episode of Supernatural, which airs on the 24th.

They aren't casting 16 year olds. Only 18 and up. It would difficult for production to have a 16 year old cast member, since they would have to juggle filming hours and high school. Plus, there's also the possibility that there will be sex scenes.

http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-austingoldenhourmicha...eman,0,2657787.storyCW has begun casting for Austin Golden Hour or whatever the hell its called. My question is this: Are these people seriously supposed to be thought of as doctors and medical professionals? I mean Greys tends to stretch the line but this sounds like just cutting the line with a scissors and making sure people appeal to 18-34 year olds.

Austin Golden Hour is sounding like the O.C. E.R. Whatever promise it had is being ruined by casting teenage soap opera type actors. It'll bomb hard.

Cassidy Freeman is exactly the type of person that CW should be casting. They need someone new that can break through and become a real star, not just a niche face on the niche network. And, yes, she is perfectly believable as a rookie paramedic.

I have to agree, I dont think people should be jumping to any conclusions about Austin Golden Hour; just because the cast is young, doesnt mean its going to be bad. And its The CW, their target demo is adults 18-34, so I'm not sure why anyone should be surprised. If they are all young, med students or EMTs, then most of them should in their mid to late 20s.

Babe Alert! '90210' spinoff lands AnnaLynne McCord Apr 14, 2008, 07:57 PM | by Lynette Rice AnnaLynne McCord (Nip/Tuck) has joined the cast of CW's planned spinoff of Beverly Hills 90210, from executive producer Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars). McCord will play Naomi, a hot, rich, and popular Beverly Hills high schooler (is there any other kind?). There are still many roles to be cast for the drama, which is in contention for fall, but Thomas has already cast Dustin Milligan (The Messengers) as Ethan, a likable star athlete. Published reports have said the spinoff will revolve around the Mills family, whose matriarch, Tabitha, is a 60-something has-been actress and alcoholic. Tabitha's adult son, Harry, moves back home to care for his mother. Joining him are his wife Celia, an Olympic athlete-turned-personal trainer, and their two 16-year-old kids who will may make up the new 90210 crew. sourceshe played eden this season's nip/tuck

Not bad casting at all. By appearance, she could definitely pull off the sexy "spoiled bitch from hell" from the character description. She also looks young enough. How was her performance on Nip/Tuck?...is she a good actor? I'm anxious to see how the rest of the cast turns out.
