Okay, I admit. I like some of the programming on CW. But, what is it? Why haven't Girlfriends and The Game taken off! I think they pretty good shows. Roll Eyes

What's your take?

Girlfriends hasn't been the same since Jill Marie Jones left, which coincided with the switch to the CW....it is definitely STILL one of the better shows on network TV, but it is in its 8th season. It is also up against I Love New York and has a very incompatible lead-in.

The Game on the other hand started off as being a really bad show. The first 3-4 episodes of season 1 were horrible. However the show is WAY WAY WAY better in its 2nd season. The acting is improved and the writing is MUCH improved. They might want to think about separating it from the rest of the Monday line-up to grow it into its own brand.

The CW Monday as a whole is pretty much ignored partly because the network is on is less known than UPN was, the CBS comedy block is more popular, and Girlfriends is starting to show its age in terms of stories and being down a cast member hurts too.

Maybe if the CW gave it the high profile slot of behind Top Model it could help. Lord knows it's yet to work for any drama.

The Sunday move may have worked if the shows were put on an hour later than they were last season...I just couldn't understand why they had them on Sunday from 7-9 instead of 8-10...The Game does deserve to be aired out of Top Model, though. It is younger than GF & EHC, and is the only show on the entire network that is building on its lead-in. The show is growing creatively, and is doing as good as can be expected ratings-wise...they need to try and capitalize on that...the young-white-girl image isn't working for them right now....they should probably just relaunch themselves as a network with more Af. Amer. shows...it worked for WB & FOX when they first started, and it was kind of working for UPN (Girlfriends was actually successful when it was on UPN)....but aiming for the 18-25 year old females is done...cable has them now.

Girlfriends builds on its lead-in as well and doesn't have the advantage of having DWtS ending right before it comes on the air, like The Game.

I would like to see Girlfriends and The Game air after ANTM because I don't think the Top Model audience wants to dive into one of the soaps. Reaper might work, but Life is Wild won't work at all. One Tree Hill might work, even though it is a soap, simply because it is a more established show in that timeslot.

You are right that Jill Marie Jones' departure from Girlfriends hurt the show.

As for The Game getting better, I still cannot stand the blonde female actress that seems to dominate the show. She makes it unwatchable.

I agree. I think if the CW were to put more minority lead shows, it'd get more attention than Reaper or Gossip Girl have. I don't think since Margaret Cho's sitcom, All American Girl, got cancelled that there has been another Asian sitcom. So, maybe that's a market they should explore.
