THE CW almost has to revamp its schedule. It may not need to cancel anything, but it can't continue to limp through the season like it as started.

The need to pair up shows to make strong nights and may need to scrafice a couple of nights with its weaker shows.

Mondays:
LIW
AiA
EHC

Tuesdays:
Supernatural
Smallville Encore

Wednesdays:
ANTM
Girfriends
The Game

Thursdays:
Smallville
Reaper

Friday:
Smackdown

Sunday:
CW Now
Online Nation
GG
ANTM Encore

That doesn't look too bad, though you are writing off Sunday and Monday completely. There is no way that those comedies will stand up to the top comedies on TV and you are taking them out of 'family hour', to boot.

The only thing that I know I would do differently is that I would leave GG on Tuesday at 9pm and put the Smallville encore on Sunday. GG stabilized (this week anyway) and is too big an investment to write off so soon.

Are you saving B&tG for after ANTM's season is over or just tossing it in the trash bin now?

As for Mondays, the comedy block is getting killed, so make mondays a family night. Perhaps LIW could help with the two other comedies.

I put GG on Sundays at 8pm because there really isn't similar show in that time slot. Make Sunday Night "Teen Girls Night".

Yea, save B&TG for in between ANTM runs. Its showing its not a long term series.

I think Supernatural wouldn't do any worse than wat its doing already or what is there currently, so it gets the left overs, with a potential to grow.[Q]Originally posted by Obveeus:

Just the fact that you have a regularly scheduled Smallville encore on Tuesdat tells you all you need to know about the state of The CW. The reality is you can revamp the entire schedule, but unless you actually have a better hand to play, it won't make a difference.

That's exactly the lineup I was thinking about posting if you were to keep all the shows to mid-season. If you wanted to keep Beauty in the Geek, place it where GG is on that lineup (Sunday at 8 PM) and place GG where the Smallville Encore is (Tuesday at 9 PM).

I like this, but I would move Gossip Girls to lead off Tuesdays and try to utilize a relatively weak hour in the fall. Ship the repeats off to Sundays. Its starting to look like too much geek on Monday at 8 has hurt Aliens and Chris so maybe they should go to Sunday and the Smallville repeats go to Monday. Its a complete disaster right now. Nothing is working save for Top Model (on the decline), Smallville (possible final year), and Smackdown (probably skews different from the rest of the schedule).

You know, if I was a Fox executive, I would put oodles of money out there to get the WWE Smackdown for Fox Fridays and perhaps get some deal so it can also be repurposed on MNTV. It would be the final nail in the coffin for the CW and revenge for completely leaving Fox affiliates out of the CW merger (a dumb move considering in many cities Fox's affiliates had strong local news programs amongst other valuable assets). Come to think of it, the Fox unbranding of UPN in its final season was probably the first of the oodles of problems for the CW.

I’m not sure why Fox would want “Smackdown!” in the first place. Sure, there is the fact that the net wouldn’t have to program Friday nights, an area they have struggled with for many years. However, ratings for WWE programming are down across the board year-to-year (i.e. “Raw” on USA Network and “ECW” on Sci-Fi). Also, while “Smackdown!” is also down somewhat, its ratings are pretty stable year ‘round.

“Smackdown!” routinely draws enough viewers in either tie or pull ahead of Fox on Fridays, so pouring a lot of money into a franchise that isn’t going to noticeably improve your standing on a tough night seems counterproductive.

UPN’s decision to air “Smackdown!” was tied to the WWE jump from USA Network to cable net Spike TV. At the time UPN, like Spike, was owned by Viacom. Since WWE returned to USA Network, now under the NBC Universal corporate logo, I’m not sure that NBCU would not seek to kill any sort of alliance between the WWE and Fox. Why would NBCU want to help out a competitor on a troublesome night? Aside from “Smackdown!” all the WWE properties air on NBCU cable nets (even the occasional “Saturday Night Main Event” airs on NBC).

Concerning speculation on a possible CW revamp, I suggested in another thread that the CW could make Sunday night a supernatural/sci-fi themed night by airing the following line-up:

7:00 Smallville (encores)
8:00 Reaper
9:00 Supernatural (encores)

I realize that I am relying on not one, but two encore presentations, but the CW just doesn’t have that many options right now. The could move new episodes of “Supernatural” to Sundays and air encores of “Top Model” on Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. but that is just shuffling the encore deck chairs.

At this point, CW execs should be thrilled to just be able to stop the bleeding and match the numbers they pulled in last year. If CBS and Warner Bros. don’t engineer a shake-up in the executive suite before the end of the season (before the fall schedules are presented) then I would seriously question their desire to having a long-term vision for the net.

I do like the idea of a move night. Perhaps once a month, it can be a CW World Premiere movie

With a movie night, they could stretch it out over 3 hours like they used to do before they went to only two hours with a lot of editing. There are a ton of movies that would appeal to this target audience that would not be quite right on the big 4.

Here is another for kicks and giggles.

Monday
Everybody Hates Chris/Girlfriends
Aliens in America/The Game
Life is Wild

Tuesday
Gossip Girl
One Tree Hill

Wednesday
Americas Next Top Model
Reaper

Thursday
Smallville
Supernatural

Friday
Smackdown

Sunday
WB Movie on the CW

Question: Who is having a better fall than The CW?
Answer: Well, pretty much everybody. But I was going to say: Reba McEntire.

I guess that is what you get when you alienate your target audience. When you add the fans up of Everwood, Reba, Gilmore Girls, 7th Heaven, Veronica Mars, and One Tree Hill who are pissed their show didn't get a fall slot and are now unwilling to watch new or returning programming on the CW, the numbers add up. Let's hope Neilson people doesn't start counting people actively not watching shows or the CW might set a new record of achieving negative viewers.

I really don't think that's the reason they're having a bad fall. I'd like to think people aren't so lame that they would actually boycott an entire network just because their favorite show is no longer on it. Seems pretty weak to me. If The Office (which is my favorite show) got canned, I wouldn't be like "NBC IS TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE! I'M NEVER WATCHING THIS NETWORK AGAIN!" I, and I hope most other people, don't take their tv that seriously.

I don't know fan bases that hire banner ad planes (Veronica Mars), park ferris wheels outside office buildings (Everwood) or picket carrying trees (One Tree Hill) are pretty eccentric/enthusiastic/dedicated-to-their-beliefs and/or are young enough to hold grudges and/or still throw tantrums, don't surprise me that they've hold true to their promise (at least for one television season) of boycotting. Heck, the Reba crew set up PirateReba.com where they blasted Dawn Ostroff and the CW regularly.
