At the outset, you need to know that we are geezers - members of the over 60 crowd.

Also, we have been recording and "time shifting" for decades and now can record two HD and two SD programs simultaneously while watching a recorded program. We have two sons in that 18-49 group: one uses VOD on Comcast extensively, the other records selectively and uses internet sources. It makes a significant difference in watching habits.

We time shift the CW's "Life is Wild" (a potentially significant family show - strong premise, strong writing, strong acting and directing), "Alien's in America" (had potential, but finds itself up against the really funny "Big Bang" in the CBS Monday comedy lineup), "The Reaper" (a fun show, but...), and "Gossip Girl" (has the same appeal as "The OC").

Yes, the CW will do well in DVR time shifting. But they need to push video on demand and episode replay on the internet as part of a longer term plan.

Further, they need to follow NBC's lead - this year episodes of the new crime show "Life" are appearing on USA while "Heroes" episodes started appearing on SciFi last year. They need to run "Life is Wild" and "Gossip Girl" episodes on The N, plus "Aliens in America" and "The Reaper" on Comedy Central, all to help get exposure and generate revenue for the shows.

It's ironic that "Life is Wild" would have become in another era a new and better "The Waltons", meaning a strong commercial success while offering insight into values such as tolerance. But it can't compete well against the NFL and all the other entertainment choices available without imaginative, forward thinking entertainment conglomerate executives.

The real question is whether Wall Street analyst thinking which focuses on what profits were made yesterday will prevail here and the CW stations will fade into noise of the multitude of local "reruns forever" stations amusingly called "independents."
