As you know, Polls are kind of like my signature here at pifeedback.com! And this type of poll is my signature poll. You know what it is: Premiere ratings estimate! I know you may get tired of them but, heck, its summer, we're bored! So, with ANTM always getting big premieres and finales, what do you think that Gossip Girl's premiere ratings will be? Also, since ANTM slumps a little bit during the season (into the upper 3 millions), what will the average viewer amount be.

Wednesday nights at 9pm is a pretty brutal timeslot, especially with Criminal Minds, Bones, Private Practice, and Bionic Woman as its competition. Hopefully America's Next Top Model can give the show at least somewhere between 3 and 4 million viewers. And since the show is also a book series, that will probably help its odd by already having an established fanbase.
I think this show is going to do pretty well (and I also think it should lead off Tuesdays, but that's another story). Last night, me and a group of friends were hanging out and a couple of the girls started talking about how they're turning the Gossip Girl books into a TV show, and how its from the creators of The OC. So, it's starting to get buzz already. Also, I think Private Practice is the only Wed. 9PM show that really shares the same audience, but I don't think it should cripple the show too badly (maybe just in the demo).
thanks for voting and posting everybody! y'all rock!

Well, GG won't premiere until after the 2nd ANTM episode of cycle 9... they always do two-hour premieres with the first hour being about selecting the 13 finalists from the semi-finalist pool, then the first photo shoot / elimination. The second week will get above 5 million viewers (especially without Idol competition), and I suspect GG will hold about 80%.

I think this looks like the OC: New York. With that said, I remembered how badly Greys killed the OC. I suspect Private Practice and eventually Idol to really hurt it as well.

1) Criminal Minds- At least half it's audience is over 50. And I don't think crime dramas skew the same way as GG to begin with.
2) Bones- Not even as big as people make it seem. It just does good for FOX. I predict Bones is the real show in trouble. It skews similarly to both CM and Private Practice.
3) Bionic Woman- Completely irrelevant. SciFi does not skew the same way as GG does. And many critics/advertisers say BW will flop. Could be wrong but still not a hopeful sign.
4) Private Practice- The only real threat. But still it's not Grey's Anatomy, however it will still be a very strong contender. So yea GG does need to worry about this.
Conclusion: GG has a set fanbase and it premieres after ANTM. And there is really just one show that threatens it. So I don't see how it will get "killed... BIG TIME" unless there is a cable show you want to point out.
The Idol Factor- Now this could be what hurts it in the Spring but I can still imagine it pulling in 3.5 million viewers.
If you are right though, I'll buy you a beer.

There are just too many good/popular shows on at the same time. It will be the "Odd Man Out".

Gilmore Girls fans are upset that Gossip Girl has Girl in the title. They think it will cause confusion to the viewers, causing them to forget about Gilmore Girls. So they are petitioning the CW to get the show to star Gee and rename it to Gossip Gee. Gee has not returned phone calls.

The biggest worries for Gossip Girl are Private Practice in the fall and then Idol in the spring. I think it will start out very well and continue to do well until Idol comes along. I think the retention will be at least 80% out of Top Model with no Idol, and 60-65% with Idol.
I watched the pilot today and it is VERY good. It will be a guilty pleasure for all age groups the same way the OC was the first season.
I'm going to go WAY out on a limb and say that it increases the ANTM lead (at least early on ) and becomes a hit hovering in the 6M range.
By the time the fall rolls around this will be the most talked about new show on any network or at least on par with the buzz Pushing Daisies is seeing.
The CW just needs to get the jump on the big nets and have a week or so in the clear of the big series. I think FOX still has some baseball in the fall so Bones won't be a factor early on.
I had it opening 4-5mm, settling 3-4mm. Its biggest threat is the network it is on. And that's not meant as a slap. I also think a few of these CW shows may slant a little too young if CW is really trying to be a player. They seem to be trying to get blood from a stone sometimes.
As far as the rest of this very talked about hour, heartily agree BONES is vulnerable. If BW is any good, the audience is there for it to be viable by NBC standards. I've mentioned in other threads that PP is open to more question in my mind than apparently some others here think. And while CM will be solid, if BW is any good, and has tone that has been suggested, it may nick CM just a little bit.

The more that I think about it, I think it can now premiere with at least 4.5 million viewers or more. I know the competition is tough, but America's Next Top Model always does amazingly well (for CW standards) and the shows seem to be really compatible. The fact that it also has a book series behind it should really help.
And Private Practice is its biggest threat, but with the cast members of that series, it seems like it will be going for much older audiences then the ones watching Gossip Girls (Grey's Anatomy on the other hand, has an overall younger cast, since it focuses a lot on the interns and next season, both Addison and Dr. Burke will be gone).
Bionic Woman will get audiences who are looking for the next Buffy or Alias series, audiences who were fans of the original, audiences that are scifi fans, and audiences that are fans of Battlestar Galactica.
Criminal Minds and Bones are the only shows that I think will hurt each other the most. Both are procedural, crime shows (but Bones has a more romantic element to it).
