What will it take is my biggest question? Do teens really want to watch 2 1 hour long dramas? Have you noticed that if you ask who watches OTH or those shows its mostly 20 year olds or up.. Which makes me wonder..Do TEENS really want to watch Teen oriented shows?
What does the CW need? Besides Dump all the Comedies except Reba EHC & Girlfriends?

First of all, it's time to dump Girlfriends. The show has sorung a ratings' leak. I think the CW needs a good new family drama, more non-scripted programming and a new superhero that fans can get addicted to.

Totally agree with you Marc, By the way i'm new lovin' the forum! <3 the way you corrected the Reba thing much props..Girlfriends, yes. They need to let it go with Dignity. They need to let 7th Heaven go too, even if it is secure ratings. The CW will never progress if they stay with their safety blankets now will they. Aquaman woulda been great on the CW schedule, even though the pilot was pure cheese, i would have definitely watched! Family Drama - Hidden Palms is Drama. Not sure if its "FAMILY" persay..Did you catch the Pilot Marc? It was pretty much genius. What about the show Gossip Girl? I'm getting sick of "girly" Tuesdays.

The following shows do not deserve a next season,a nd this is baed off of Ratings. Girlfriens: Just let it go Veronica Mars. I am a HUGE fan, but If I was a network executive I would be against keeping it One Tree Hill: It should of been cancelled already
Possible Hits for next Year: Capitol City, House of Horrors... Spin-offs that could work: A Charmed Spinned Off, Green Arrow spinoff of Smallville.

I agree with you PARTLY, Marc. Whaddya think about a family drama based upon the home life of a computer genius such as Bill Gates or Steve Jobs before they became mega-aires? And how about a BLACK superhero such as Lobo(a black gunslinger of the Old West, found in old Dell comix), the Black Panther(Prince T'Challa of Marvel Comix...the name preceded the Black Panther party of 1966) or Luke Cage, Hero For Hire.(The old UPN & WB had many shows featuring black actors/actresses, & seemed to have a following in the black community. However, black superheroes on TV are about as rare as North American kangaroos.)
As for their story so far with unscripted fare...their earlier examples just SUCKED, to put it mildly. Such cowpiles as "Amish In The City" & "Survival Of The Richest" were enuff to have almost caused me to not even sample the new CW. I certainly didn't watch any new show on UPN or WB after those! I have my doubts if CW can rise above the "grunge" level in reality shows. They might have better luck with a series about how things work, such as computers or TVs, or how things are made, such as medicine or vitamin tabs....or perhaps a series on "a day in the life" of workers at common occupations.
The CW needs a trademark new hit show. The majority of their shows are either done or aging past their prime. Im pretty sure 7th Heaven will not be back again next season and im not too sure about an 8th Season of Gilmore Girls.
The only shows they really have that do decent in ratings that you can plan on past this season are America's Next Top Model, Beauty and The Geek, Smallville(can't be more than 1 or 2 seasons left in the tank for Clark and co.), and Supernatural(would it survive without the Smallville lead-in?)
Although they both have diehard but small fan bases can you really justify not renewing one of either OTH and VM for next season? Granted, Runaway was only one show and perhaps another chance at a new show on CW would do better, but you know what kind of ratings OTH and VM are gonna probably get next season and both of them are short in episode numbers to make them look appealing for a syndication deal. Who knows, no one thought OTH would make the cut last season with the merger of UPN and WB.
The CW is gonna need some kind of buzz show like a Buffy, Dawson's Creek, or even bigger to put the network on the map.
The fretting about the CW is a little premature. It only takes a hit show or two to turn a network around. Three years ago people had written off ABC. Then in the span of one season they introduced little programs called Desperate Housewives, Lost and Grey's Anatomy.

I'm surprised being more available has not increased viewership at all for any of these shows.
I've always wondered why the "The OC" crowd wouldn't automatically flock to a show like "One Tree Hill".
The CW shouldn't have been so short-sighted as to only target the "young" crowd. To be a big network, they need to attract viewers of all ages, and yet they wanted to drop "Reba" and they did drop "Everwood". "Reba" did fine on its debut, and that will probably expose people who are not in their "target demographic" to the existence of this new network. It's too bad about "Everwood", though I am guessing its ratings would have been lower than last year as well.
The CW must put a great emphasis on new programming for next season. Unfortunately, it does not feel like a new network. I like that family drama idea, and it needs a new superhero and some fresh comedies. With so many shows on the fence, I vote for canceling two of the Monday comedies, Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill and, potentially, Supernatural. Start fresh, and be aggressive -- that is what the CW must do.

Thank you, TheCWFan. No, I have not seen Hidden Palms yet, but I would position it Wed. at 9 p.m. out of Top Model and ship One Tree Hill to Sun. at 9 p.m. What is Gossip Girl? I never heard of it?

I don't agree with cancelling Supernatural. It is the most successful new show that The WB had in years, and continues to do well against extremely tough competition.
Supernatural is only in its second season, so it is still a new show, and I see nothing to gain by cancelling it. If they did cancel One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars and the comedies...and with Seventh Heaven and Gilmore Girls (and even Smallville) at the end of their run, The CW would have too many timeslots to replace with new shows already, without adding Supernatural to the list.
I think they need to cancell 4th Heaven and Gilmore Girls, two of the monday comedys. I actually started watching Veronica Mars this year and I like the show. Its good but I guess I would be okay with it if it were to go. Supernatural needs to stay. I dont know about One Tree Hill but if it had to end, I guess I would be okay with it but I heard its going in a different direction next season skipping 5 years ahead or something. I would like to see that.

Gossip Girl : Gossip Girl is an American televison drama to be aired on The CW Television Network as a mid-season replacement in the 2007-2008 season. The pilot will be written by creator of the Fox Television Network program The O.C., Josh Schwartz. Gossip Girl is based upon the novel series by Cecily von Ziegesar of the same name, which features socialite teenagers growing up on New York's Upper East Side and going to the poshest high schools, and dealing with sex, drugs, and other adult issues. Serena, Blair, Nate, Dan, and Jenny are the main characters and rotate in love triangles.
Doesn't it sound a little Bedford Diaries to you? Hopefully its better much better written, acted, with some of the same edge bedford had. This can be a hit, if treated right.

Originally posted by Marc Berman: The CW ordered Gossip Girls, or is it just in the pilot stage?
Well, they virtually ordered it. The CW has made 4 put pilot commitments for the TV season 2007/2008 including Ghosts, Gossip Girl, Steps and an untitled Giane Ruggiero project. Therefore they would have to pay penalties if they don't pick up the shows.
Here are summaries regarding those put pilots (except from Gossip Girl):
Ghosts: drama about an f.b.i. surveillance unit that lives and works together in a bid to fight crime in washington, d.c.
Steps: ensemble drama with comedic elements that's set at a family-run dance studio
untitled Giane Ruggiero project: drama about two very different young women and best friends who unite to fight crime after a mysterious event gives them superpowers they can use only when they are together
