How do you all think ABC will perform for the rest of the season?

Outside of DH, Grey's and Dancing with The Stars, ABC's got a lot of problems. Lost seems to be slipping, all of their new hour dramas have failed (although I think Men in Trees and Brothers and Sisters have the potential to grow, the others are toast), and ABC really needs to develop some comedies (half-hour) worth watching.

ABC is heading into rough territory. It still has no hit sitcoms, Lost is likely to fall from grace next season, it has no new hit dramas -- even Desperate Housewives is not what it used to be. While Grey's Anatomy has jump-started Thursday, it's now down year-to-year, and the absence of Monday Night Football has hurt.

I think it could be rough at least until Dancing with the Stars returns. They have holes on Monday (What About Brian), Tuesday (the comedies, and possibly Show Me the Money), Wednesdays (10pm hour til February, and possibly more problems), Thursday (Men in Trees is no guarnateed hit), Friday (8 to 10pm).

And ABC has remained mum on when Dancing is returning.

I think it may be Tuesday and Wednesday Marc, simply because ABC could have 2 hours worth to fill on both nights.

But Boston Legal has never had much for a lead in. Commander in Chief was solid but sunk just as quickly as it became successful.

Well, basically, the entire night on Monday, Wednesday (until Lost return, even though Lost probably is going to lose audience) & Friday, and Tuesday except 10pm Boston Legal are holes on ABC's schedule. More than half of ABC's schedule is currently not working (or probably will not work). ABC should have move its comedy block (8-10) on Wednesday to Friday. Other networks currently are not putting comedy on Friday, that would be an okay counter programming move. Comedies lead into Lost is the worst idea ever. ABC needs to be smart about its scheduling. If ABC wants to save itself, those fancy footwork needs to come back as quick as possible... Wink

Hey, Marc, by chance has ABC announced when it is going to launch "The Traveler". That show seems promising. I'm hoping ABC will be smart enough to find a compatible time slot before the show died (In my opinion, they saved Men in Trees just in time).

Hi Patrick,

No, I have not heard anything about Traveler, but the promo I saw looks great. Personally, I would have scheduled it Wednesday at 10 p.m. out of Lost.

ABC has a lot of holes, but they should air out some of the stinkers they started to keep the fans happy. To me that means shove Day Break and The Nine to Fridays in January and in March when those two are done, move What About Brian to Friday with Six Degrees. Then on Mondays throw a new reality show behind Supernanny. On Tuesdays nothing is likely to catch on, so stick with the stinkers until March and then run 90 minute or 2 hour editions of Dancing with the Stars. On Wednesdays, run GLo and AtJ until March and then air Dancing results into the new comedies. If the new comedies flop (this is likely), use Dancing and Lost to launch Traveler.

How far is Grey's down this year? It's too bad the Thanksgiving episode will be calculated into its season average, though. That episode, creatively, was the strongest of the season.

Not by much, and for ABC it is huge on Thursday. But I still think the network would have been better off putting it on Monday.
