After about three weeks of what looked like a promising show, I'm finding that the actual competition loses its luster in the television angle. The drama of the first few weeks was really good. Now, it's just another Idol wannabe with talent doing "musical" rock and roll numbers. I'm not sure if the audience will stay with it.
I posted an opinion a few hours back on the Sunday thread, but it seems more fitting for here so I'll share it again:
We both are enjoying Grease as it just seems to be such a fun show for a Sunday night so I'm a bit disappointed that it is not garnering enough interest to keep it from being labeled a loser. I think the only problem I have is that it doesn't even attempt to differentiate from American Idol. The judges, with the exception of Ian should be scrapped because they don't offer anything to the show. (And sorry Olivia, but you should have just been seen at the end to tell everyone they were great and that would have been enough.) I do think that it will be more interesting when Andrew Lloyd Weber shows up in 2 weeks as I think he won't be afraid to give his 2 cents. There are ways of offering constructive criticism without just being mean and insulting - why o why can't anyone get that!?!?
Grease had a great opportunity to be something more unique than Idol by showcasing a combination of singing and dancing and I don't understand why they just decided to really focus on the singing part.
Now as for watching going forward, we both have a vested interest now in the contestants - especially Derek and Kate, so I look forward to watching even more now than I did before when so many different unfamiliar faces were thrown at me.
So is Grease The One That We Want? I can't speak for others on this board, but as far as my partner and I go, you bet 'ya!

My partner and I love this show as well. I cannot believe they brought back Matt Nolan (who is cute but too green) and the other girl. They should have stayed gone. Other than that, though, it was a great 2-hour special. I hope that future episodes focus on singing and dancing combined.
I am sure that NBC will let this air until the finale. Let's hope that it builds some steam after football is gone from Sunday nights.
Not likely. There was no football last night and Grease didnt improve much from the previous two weeks.

The numbers warrant a complete run so far. And I do think as the competition heats up, the numbers will improve. (Although I'm gonna be having to record it when The Amazing Race comes back cause that's the only show I gotta see live!) I think there is enough room for multiple successes in one time period.

As it stands right now, to me "One That I Want" has a lot of problems, not the least of which is Billy Bush, who is probably one of the least competent hosts out there, as Bily Crystal and Jeremy Piven can tell you. One of the unstated reasons that "Dancing" works better than people expect over here is simply that Tom Bergeron is one of the best at what he does, with a strong instinct for keeping a live television show moving and an utter unflappability. Despite the inserted overemotes she did on the audition shows, Denise Van Outen is really quite a likeable personality and should be doing the show by herself and without Bush. Just who is it at NBC who thinks he's great?
The other problems are the attempts to ape "Idol": the audience signs obviously made by the prop department, the incessant cued/sweetened audience screams, the audience hand-waving during ballads, etc. On their owen, they've added those stupid nicknames for the contestants. Finally, too many contestants so far have come off as ShowTuneBot 3000s when it comes to singing pop songs (especially you, "spiritual Sandy," and your lifeless attempt at KT Tunstall). I really wonder if Jim Jacobs, who has made more than enough money from "Grease" over the last 35 years, is wondering why he allowed himself to be stuck in this turkey.
Any bets on when the show gets moved to Bravo?
