I've been a huge fan of 24 since Day One...and now HEROES is my favorite new show of the season.

With a VCR I don't have to worry about choosing between them but I am worried about for those who do...the ratings will suffer for one or both of the shows.

I wonder what will happen?

Me, too...

Interestingly, Heroes is doing as well now as 24 has ever done. But, 24 will have the Emmy push and huge DVD release for Season 5, not to mention the FOX strategy of putting the first hour on right after football (hoping for overrun to drive up ratings even more).

Should be an interesting Monday night at 9pm Smiler

I didn't even think about that. Although now I'm happier than ever that I have TiVo.

This will turn out to be much like Grey's Anatomy/CSI standoff we are currently seeing. 24 should win the hour in demos and viewers with Heroes coming a close second. With CBS also being competive with their comedies, ABC will have little spoils to work with (much like FOX is facing currently on Thursday's).

I don't think so. The last season finale of 24 drew an audience of 13.52 million viewers (HH: 9.0/13; adults 18-49: 5.4/14 among adults) while the last installment of Heroes got 14.74 million viewers (HH: 9.7/14; adults 18-49:6.4/15). Moreover Heroes has 2.5 months time to pick up more steam and once Deal or No Deal is gone from Thursday the Monday installment should get around 18 million viewers. This should increase Heroes audience to 16 million+ - a clear advantage over 24.

I didn't even think ahead to this issue. Wow that will be an interesting competition. I like Heroes and it is somewhat must see for me now, but I LOVE 24 and will watch that "live" each week once it is back. I think 24 has some very loyal fans so they will come back to 24 especially with 4 hours between Sunday and Monday that first week. Plus this new season looks great from the trailer.

Yeah, the competition will be stiff especially considering that the last episode of Heroes outperformed the season finale of 24 among adults 18-49 by hefty 18.5 percent and from my point of view Heroes will pick up much more steam until January.

I had no idea that was all the viewers 24 received. I know it's not up there with Grey's Anatomy and CSI, but I always thought it was up there.

Then again, this year is won the Emmys for Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama. That's a lot of buzz that FOX will be pushing. And, while Heroes has Deal or No Deal as a lead-in... the audiences aren't the same. DoND is older skewing, while Heroes is currently the #1 Show on TV in the 18-34 demo. It's like how Dancing with the Stars leads into Lost... lots of viewers, but not the same type of viewers.

Speaking of Lost... the first season finale got about 20 million viewers. Then it won the Emmy and had a hugely talked about cliffhanger. It premiered to 25 million viewers.

If 24 ended its season with 13-14 million viewers, AND it has a big NFL Playoff game before it (to deliver male viewers), PLUS the Emmy wins AND the huge cliffhanger that ended Day 5... I don't see why it would be unreasonable for 24's premiere to do 18-20 million viewers.

I hadn't even thought about that. Luckily, I catch HEROES on nbc.com. OLD CHRISTINE is actually our first priority in that timeslot. Jack may have to wait for me to catch up on DVD this season...

I think Heroes will take a hit. I don't watch 24, but from what people tell me, it's realling compelling.

My guess is each show will average about 15 million viewers. 24 winning in total viewers but Heroes winning in the 18-49 demo.

24 was always the winner in the 18-49 demo during it's run so far.

I guess all depends on how well the new season of 24 will start off. Heroes will be on hiatus fro a few weeks until the 22th of January, which means they will avoid the '2 nights/4 episodes' event of 24 on January 14th/15th.

There is also still, to this day, a noticeable difference between the numbers for a big hit by NBC standards and a big hit by Fox standards. The younger network is still a bit of an underdog, with less expectations for huge ratings than the older network has. NBC cancels shows all the time that would be considered modest hits on Fox ....

So my guess is 'Heroes' will get bigger ratings than '24,' but it won't matter one way or another.

Heroes will certainly take a hit when 24 returns, but if the quality of the show holds up, it should still do all right. Thank goodness I have both east and west coast network stations on my systen so there is no choice to be made here.
