As far as I am concerned, Survivor jumped the shark last night. After all this controversy about breaking up the teams by race, why did they rush to merge them after just two episodes? I'm not even sure I want to watch anymore. Ugly Betty -- I'm coming over!
I never thought the divided by race would last more than a couple of episodes. Whenever they've initially divided into more than 2 tribes, the merge to 2 tribes comes quickly.
I was surprised that we didn't get any footage of Candace on Exile Island. I realize the hidden idol has been found, but was she that uninteresting?
I liked the four tribes, and how the dynamics on all of them were so different. I don't mind a merge so much, but they should have gone to 3 tribes. It's a lot more difficult to follow the show when you have 2 tribes of 9 as opposed to 3 tribes of 6.
I have watched every Survivor episode since Season 1. I am very disappointed so far with this season. This show has always been about relationships, deception, and crazy situations. We saw a little bit of that before the tribal council vote last night, but that was it.
I think putting the teams into 2 teams at this point was a good idea (sorry...) I find the dynamic of 4 teams with limited numbers to be a bit boring. As for this season, I enjoyed last nights episode a lot more than the others. I have DVR'd Survivor, Ugly Betty and Office on two different sets but obviously have to watch Survivor first because I always hear who gets booted otherwise. I think it's very premature to write off this season anyway, but then again, I'm a solid fan of the show and can't see that changing anytime soon. (Although Amazing Race is always gonna be numero uno with me...)

I enjoyed last nights episode and thought the "merging" of tribes was perfect. Make them as diverse as possible.
What they should do next is have a so-called Individual Immunity challenge with the two tribes, then, afterwards, have the top 7 winners form a new tribe and the bottom 7 players in another tribe, going right off to a trible council.
I like the fact that Survivor is trying to keep the game fresh with new ideas and elements.
Next season, they need to have 4 tribes of people with very similar personalities, intrests, backgrounds, etc... A group of agressive "Alpha-Males" a group of "Quiet Followers", A tribe of Military people, a group of "College Hippies" Keep the tribes together a little longer, but only an episode or two.
I liked that they still have two tribes and it wasn't a complete merge yet. It opens up the politics of loyalties to the old tribes or new alliances. This is still the best reality show for strategy and competitions. Only the media who were ignorant about SURVIVOR in the first place made a controversy over the racial teams--the players almost completely didn't care. I would certainly not label this as a "jump the shark" development at all, but feel it was just the opposite as it added a little freshness to the team selection.
That said, the competition this week was rehashed from a previous season and the cast isn't as interesting to watch as other seasons.
Sampled UGLY BETTY last night and utterly hated it, recorded SMALLVILLE for later. SURVIVOR is still the best thing going on Thursdays at 8, and I will definitely follow it through.
I couldn't agree with you more. Total rip off. Yeah some social experiment. Mark Burnett Blah Blah Blah. How about this was a social experiment to see if they could increase ratings. Whatev GM's out and so am I. Can't wait Ugly Betty!

I found with the four tribes it was hard to get to know anyone. There was too much switching back and forth.
I think Burnett merges the tribes based on when it is needed. The four small tribes were not creating enough drama with the exception of the Billy fiasco so they mixed'em up. No real 'evil' characters have emerged yet and with the exception of 'flicka' and Cao Boi no real characters either. I was surprised that Yul and Jonathan targeted Cecelia instead of Cao Boi, Cecelia seemed like a classy, responsible player that would have been a better asset...

Totally agree and could have not said it better myself.
I love Survivor, but it probably jumped the shark with the Thailand cast.
That said, I agree with the people who like that we are down to two tribes. Any experienced Survivor watcher should never have expected the four tribes to last more than a couple of episodes.
I always like knowing the spoilers, it makes it more interesting (for me) to watch, because I'm curious to see how so and so actually gets to the jury when it isn't looking so good at the start, and that sort of thing. Editing dynamics are fun to watch on Survivor. The office politics of it all. It's actually pretty easy to make picks of who'll be voted out if you watch the editing and don't pay attention to gimmicks like tribes divided by race.
