Working off of Marc's "Top 10 TV Geeks of All Time", I decided to make a thread for just top 10 TV characters of all time. They can be all from one show or from 10 different shows or some other combination. I'm pretty young so all of mine (except #1) will be from recent years. Here are mine with accompanying (actor) and show:
1. J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), Dallas 2. George Costanza (Jason Alexander), Seinfeld 3. Marie Barone (Doris Roberts), Everybody Loves Raymond 4. Roseanne Conner (Roseanne Barr...), Roseanne 5. Frank Barone (Peter Boyle), Everybody Loves Raymond 6. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), Frasier and Cheers 7. Bree Van de Kamp/Hodge (Marcia Cross), Desperate Housewives 8. Eric Camden (Stephen Collins), 7th Heaven 9. Gil Grissom (William Petersen), CSI: 10. Denny Crane (William Shatner), Boston Legal
I'm reluctant to even attempt this since there are many more than 10 and since I am sure I would end up with a different list if asked next week because there is no way to pull stuff like this into your head at any given time. Anyway, here is a list of 10 great characters.
1. Andy Sipowictz (Dennis Franz), NYPD Blue 2. Hawkeye (Alan Alda), M*A*S*H 3. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), Frasier/Cheers 4. Jerry Seinfeld, Seinfeld 5. Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), ER 6. Spock (Leonard Nemoy), Star Trek 7. Mick Belker (Bruce Weitz), Hill Street Blues 8. Mary/Laura Mary Tyler Moore, MTMS/DVDS 9. Bob/Dick (Bob Newhart), Bob Newhart Show/Newhart 10. Alex Reiger (Judd Hirsch), Taxi
A valid concern on your part Obveeus. I meant to put in the original post that everyone should feel free to do more than 10 or less than 10 or whatever they wanted. I didn't want it to be too broad or make people narrow it down so much. But, by all means, post as many as you wish.

Here are some of my favorites in no particular order:
Bree Van De Kamp- Desperate Housewives Andy Sipowicz- NYPD Blue Lucy Ricardo- I Love Lucy Roseanne Connor- Roseanne Tim Taylor- Home Improvement George Steinbrenner- Seinfeld George Costanza- Seinfeld Newman- Seinfeld Homer Simpson- The Simpsons Marie Barone- Everybody Loves Raymond Eric Camden- 7th Heaven Peter Griffin- Family Guy Andy Brown- Everwood Dr. Frasier Crane- Frasier/Cheers
I have never been big on straight dramas (prefer SciFi), but lets work on the Drama List.
1. Al Swearengen (Deadwood) 2. Dr. Albert Robbins (CSI) 3. Dr. Peter Benton (ER) 4. Sebastian Stark (Shark) 5. Dr. Temperance Brennan (Bones) 6. Seth Bullock (Deadwood) 7. Ernest Pratt (Legend) 8. Lt. Columbo (Columbo) 9. Caleb Temple (American Gothic) 10. Tony Scali (The Commish)
Queer As Folk on Showtime was on for years and quite popular. Basically, it was a sluttier gayer version of Melrose Place, but with some pretty graphic sex - mostly male, but they had some token Lesbians. (And Sharon Gless had some work for about 5 or 6 seasons.)
Noah's Arc is a tamer mostly diverse cast on the Logo channel (never saw it though as I don't get Logo...) but it just came out on DVD and I'm sure someone will be giving me one.
Dante's Cove is a supernatural Dark Shadows meets Queer As Folk that's on the Here! Network. Very R Rated. Acting is embarrassing though, but the queens I know just watch it for other reasons and with lots of booze.
Tales From The City Parts 1 and 2 were mini-series. Never saw them though.
That's all i recall, but I think as we evolve more, we expect that we'll just continue to mix the gay and straight characters and storylines into shows.

Nah, thats OK. I don't like musicals either. I'll stick with my CSI's, Criminal Minds and BSG.
Other than the L Word, has there been a "Gay Drama"??

Mushu, I can't believe George Lopez isn't on your list.

He just about made it, but there were simply too many other favorites. I really wasn't all that into GLo until about 2 summers ago and then it only became appointment TV this season.
