So we've been watching previews and reading reviews of the 2007/08 season new shows. For me, there are more promising dramas and dramadies than were launched last year and many that were not so good are still frantically being reworked.
But the two shows that surprised me with the positive reaction I had to them were two comedies, and very different ones at that. Big Bang Theory skews male and Sam Whatever The Hell The Name Is This Week skews female. I liked their polish right out of the box, their humor, characters and liveliness.
Back to You and Aliens in America also seem good, they just don't suit my taste. I didn't like Frasier so I'm put off by Kelsey Grammer, and I don't like my sitcoms over preachy like Aliens threatens to be.
I would second that sentiment. It just takes one huge blockbuster and then probably will see a large number of followers. Although I'm not sure any of these are "blockbuster" status. The promos for Back To You so far have disappointed. But it's one of those shows I want to like. The Big Bang Theory, I've seen in its entirety and it will find an audience, but a massive audience? I don't see it going up against DWTS. I haven't seen any part of Samantha Who, but single camera comedies haven't been huge lately. It's time slot though could make this one pop if it's as good as the critics say.
I still also think with DVR's also in the mix, these shows will continue to take a back seat to other shows that people want to see live such as the Reality Shows and "watercooler" buzz dramas like Lost and Desperate Housewives.
