Here are the day one overnight results for the five new strips in first-run syndication:
-New First-Run Syndication Premieres: What follows are the metered market averages for the five first-run strips that debuted yesterday - Judge David Young (Sony Pictures Television), Merv Griffin’s Crosswords (Program Partners), The Steve Wilkos Show (NBC Universal), TMZ (Warner Bros.) and Temptation (Twentieth Television). They are listed in order of the highest rated. Keep in mind, of course, that one day does not a hit or miss make.
With the most advantageous time periods, no one should be too surprised that magazine TMZ is the highest rated. Compared to both the year-ago and lead-in time period averages, TMZ declined by 16 percent.
---------------
THE STEVE WILKOS SHOW (NBC Universal) 48 markets
Sept. 2007 time period: 1.1/ 4 Lead-in: 0.9/ 3 STEVE WILKOS: 1.0/ 4
The positive news for The Steve Wilkos Show: up 11 percent from the lead-in average. Even better: a first-place finish in daytime in the entire New York market among women 18-34 (2.4/24). Wilkos also won the New York time period (WPIX, 12 p.m.) among key women 18-49 and women 25-54, with a 1.3/13 in each demo.
---------------
JUDGE DAVID YOUNG (Sony Pictures Television) 51 markets
Sept. 2007 time period: 1.0/ 3 Lead-in: 0.9/ 3 JUDGE DAVID YOUNG: 0.9/ 3
Full retention out of the lead-in average is a promising start for Judge David Young.
Even attaching the great Merv Griffin’s name to this new game show could not stop erosion of 20 percent from the lead-in and 38 percent from the year-ago time period averages.
The weakest of the five debuting first-run strips, Temptation opened 25 percent below the lead-in and 33 percent below the year-ago time period averages. Not too tempting, is it?
"Crosswords" got hammered in New York, up against "Oprah", and I figure it didn't do well in L.A. or Chicago, either. I wonder how long WNBC will stick with "Crosswords" at 4...
"Temptation" may be gone by the end of the calendar year. Weak clearances on Fox-owned MyNetworkTV stations and overnight time slots on others (3 a.m. in Philly on WTXF) won't help.
Steve Wilkos didn't air here yesterday because of a Cardinals-Cubs game, but it did debut today.
TMZ replaced Seinfeld here and it was bumped to 1:00 in the morning. Needless to say I'm not overly happy about it and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm hopeful our idiotic Fox affiliate figures it out and brings Seinfeld back to a decent timeslot. Family Guy and 2.5 Men have also taken good timeslot away from Friends and Raymond, but its only one of their telecasts each that were displaced to a later timeslot.
What dumb station manager would take a top 10 syndicated show for an unproven strip???
And Move Seinfeld to 1 am!!!
This is not "That 70's SHow" or Becker. Its Seinfeld!

Someone who works for Pappas. That's who. Pappas also has this ridiculous woman named Jackie who does personalized local ads for all the syndicated comedies. Its terrible. We don't get the generic ones that simply tell you what the episode is about. We get some annoying woman who's bio said she was an "actress". And I'm the queen of England.
In other news from my market, apparently NONE of the affiliates (and we have 4 plus the CW plus on digital) have Regis and Kelly. Instead the affiliate that did, now has Martha and the affiliate that had Martha now has Lets Play Crosswords. Its flat out sad. Another NBC affiliate airs Little House on the Prairie in the afternoon. One would think you would want Regis and Kelly on your team. Even the Fox affiliate. The TMZ strip btw, is airing after 1/2 9:00 news, which is pointless in a market as small as Sioux City, IA. As for the other syndicated shows airing over Seinfeld, we have a Malcolm in the Middle/King of the Hill combo at 3 I believe, and a full hour of That 70s Show at 4. And we have paid programming from about 6 to 9am every morning. Even Seinfeld getting ready for work would be better than at 1am and 2:30am.

A little more about where I live (not that anyone probably cares but its ridiculous), at college the cable company likes to please Des Moines kids who come up so we have Des Moines Fox (which is actually worse in terms of content and presentation than Sioux Citys) and Des Moines CBS, which does air Regis and Kelly. We also get MNTV out of Sioux Falls. Its unnecessarily confusing. At my home I get programming out of 2 markets which is nice, but you get a lot of repetition and still don't see a lot of the talk shows.
New in First-Run Syndication: Two Day Overnight Results
What follows are the initial two-day metered market (weighted) averages for the five first-run strips that debuted on Monday – TMZ (Warner Bros.), The Steve Wilkos Show (NBCU), Judge David Young (Sony Pictures Television), Merv Griffin’s Crosswords (Program Partners) and Temptation (Twentieth Television). They are listed in order of the highest rated. Keep in mind, of course, that two days does not a hit or miss make.
Worth repeating: With the most advantageous time periods, no one should be too surprised that magazine TMZ is the highest rated. But growth of one-tenth of a rating point (or seven percent) from Monday and a performance close to the year-ago time period average are two positives worth noting.
---------------
THE STEVE WILKOS SHOW (NBC Universal) 49 markets
Sept. 2007 time period: 1.1/ 4
Monday Lead-in: 0.9/ 3 STEVE WILKOS: 1.0/ 4
Tuesday Lead-in: 1.2/ 4 STEVE WILKOS: 1.1/ 4
Off immediate positive note for The Steve Wilkos Show on Tuesday was growth of one-tenth of a rating point (or 10 percent) from Monday’s debut. And almost full retention from the lead-in and a performance on par with the year-ago time period average gives this talker another thumbs up in day two.
---------------
JUDGE DAVID YOUNG (Sony Pictures Television) 51 markets
Sept. 2007 time period: 1.0/ 3
Monday Lead-in: 0.9/ 3 JUDGE DAVID YOUNG: 0.9/ 3
Tuesday Lead-in: 0.9/ 3 JUDGE DAVID YOUNG: 0.9/ 3
Despite a rating under a 1.0, full retention once again out of the lead-in is still worth noting for Judge David Young.
The news remained negative for Merv Griffin’s Crosswords in day two, with a loss of 30 percent from the lead-in and a heftier 46 percent from the year-ago time period average.
---------------
TEMPTATION (Twentieth Television) 44 markets
Sept. 2007 time period: 1.0/ 3
Monday Lead-in: 0.7/ 2 TEMPTATION: 0.6/ 2
Tuesday Lead-in: 0.6/ 2 TEMPTATION: 0.5/ 2
Game show Temptation remains the weakest of the five debuting first-run strips, but retention out of the lead-in average (83 percent) is better than the 70 percent for Merv Griffin’s Crosswords in day two. There is nothing you can positively spin, however, for a 50 percent loss from the year-ago time period average.
Do you know if your Fox station is renewing "Raymond" for cycle 2? "Raymond" got demoted to overnight time slots here (12:30a, 1:00a) to make room for "Two" and "Family Guy". WGN is losing the rights to "Raymond" to the Fox duo next year.
Trib stations in New York and L.A. lost the rights to "Raymond" too, but at least kept the sitcom on in an early time period.

Getting info for small affiliates is nearly impossible. Raymond still airs one ep at 6:30. The other airs at midnight I believe. I'd say they'll renew Raymond, because there is really no other affiliate for it to air on (our big 3 pretty much have filled lineups and the CBS is also owned by Pappas as is the MNTV digital only affiliate). The CW affiliate here is a CW plus affiliate, so if that got rights to Raymond (I believe they got rights to That 70s Show in the future), then it may be changing. Its Seinfeld's timeslots that are ridiculous. WGN here is the superstation feed. It doesn't have most of the stuff the local WGN has except for Cubs and White Sox and during those broadcasts, they advertise for the local feed's programming like 2.5 Men and Family Guy. We get none of that on the national feed. Instead its high quality stuff like Scubs, Corner Gas, AFV, Becker, and Sister Sister. What a lineup!

Our previous lineup was much better imo, but I do understand adding Family Guy and 2.5 Men. 6 to 7: back to back Raymond (this didn't make sense since TBS already aired it here but I'm guessing it did quite well). Seinfeld would air an hour at 9 (this was great and then they switched and aired just at 9:30 and 11 when local news came on at 9). Friends aired an hour at 10. Now 2.5 Men airs at 6 and 10. Raymond at 6:30 and midnight. Friends at 10:30 and like 1:00am. TMZ airs at 9:30. Family Guy airs an hour at 11. Frasier which was on at 11:30 now airs at like 1:30 and 2:30. Its just ridiculous and out of control and happened with really no promotion at all.
I thought they would cover those local promos on the superstation feed during the baseball games. When I saw Mets games on WWOR's national feed, they never covered up the promos on the syndex product (i.e. "Married.. With Children", "The Cosby Show", etc.). WGN's Superstation feed and its local one are now almost entirely different, except for sports and news.
Is "Becker" still airing on WGN Superstation? The syndication contracts for that show and "Girlfriends" expired last Friday and are no longer airing on WCIU here. There was even an explanation on WCIU's website explaining that CBS didn't renew the shows in syndication (and knocked them for it.)
