I'm wondering how many people are anxiously waiting to say something negative about the upcoming episode of Lost. It seems every week, people have problems with it, no matter how small the problem is. Reminds me of the great Kobe Bryant, no matter how good he is, people always find something negative to say. Oh and by the way, when was 17 million viewers something to worry about? This three month hiatus is better than the random three week breaks they used to take. It seems like people aren't even giving this season a chance.
The producers have always said that, every episode, people have great things and terrible things to say. That's just what happens when you have a fandom.
I read a piece in, I think, Variety a week or so ago analyzing Lost's downtread in the ratings that attributed it not to a decline in quality but to the fact that Lost is a cult show that somehow defied the odds to find mainstream success. It's audience, over time, is just going to dwindle down to that cult level (reminiscent of The X-Files).

So mark you prefer the random three week breaks more? The three month hiatus sounds bad but I think it is better. The upside to it is that we get Lost for 18 STRAIGHT WEEKS!!!
Honestly? I'd prefer they do what 24 does with Lost. Especially with two slow-build episodes, I don't buy into this "mini-season" 6 episode thing. It may hurt ABC to not have Lost in the time period in the fall. But think of how the straight-through plan helped 24. Season 4 of that show is when it came into its own because it became an event. Especially with this season's "disappointing" premiere numbers, it might help to shelve the series for an extra three months to create that much more anticipation.
Just a thought... of course, ABC would need to have something to air Wednesdays in the fall.

Yes I agree with you for the most part. The break between seasons is too long but the anticipation it would build up would be tremendous. I still like the 6 and 18 week schedule a lot too.
