A good move by FOX to get Bones away from Criminal Minds.

They've promoted the hell out of New Amserdam for Fall, though. That sucks for them.

Repeating K-Ville after Cops is smart, though.

Wednesdays at 9pm won't be as competitve anymore. Private Practice, Criminal Minds, Bionic Woman, Kitchen Nightmares, and Gossip Girls are all completely different shows that should get different audiences (aka soap vs. procedural vs. scifi vs. reality vs. teen drama). And FOX tuesdays should now do much better; Bones may take away the male audience that ABC was hoping to get with Cavemen/Carpoolers too.

But I'm concerned that there will be too many shows being held until midseason. Since FOX doesnt have a 10pm timeslot, it will be hard to fit in 24, at least two nights of American Idol, New Amsterdam, Canterbury's Law, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Return Of Jezebel James, and Unhitched (previously titled The Rules Of Starting Over) all into their schedule. Because Bones, House, and Til' Death also have to be factored in while Back To You and/or K-Ville might be successful.

The net in general will probably be a lot stronger than last fall. K-Ville can't be but so much worse than Vanished and Justice were post-Prison Break. Bones/House is much stronger than House/Standoff, and the disaster that was pre-5th Grader Thursdays will suddenly be pretty respectable.

I'm usually not one to toot my own horn, but... I so predicted this.

I like Bones on Tuesday at 8pm. I wasn't watching anything in that timeslot before, now I am AND it frees me up to record either Bionic Woman or Gossip Girl in addition to Private Practice on Wednesdays (leaning towards BW).

I find it funny that Bones is now returning to its original timeslot, after premiering Tuesdays at 8pm in Fall 2005 to little fanfare as Fox spent the bulk of its marketing energy on Prison Break, getting a brief post-Idol period, then stabilizing Wednesdays at 8pm. Meanwhile, it's the only thing to be paired with House (other than Idol, naturally) that doesn't need a couple weeks with House's lead-in to be a sampled.

Perhaps this is Kevin Reilly preparing us for House's eventual move to Thursdays at 8pm the week after its post-Super Bowl airing? Then Bones moves into the Tuesday post-Idol spot? Any takers?

It's probably also Kevin Reilly looking at New Amsterdam and realizing it's terrible. I wonder when Nina Tassler will pull the plug on the other immortal investigator drama, Moonlight (though the only drama CBS has for midseason this year is Swingtown... and why waste that sure-to-buzz show on Fridays at 9pm? Close To Home fans, you should be outraged). Would TAR work on Fridays at 9pm?

I am in agreement with you. Wednesday at 9pm was looking to be the toughest hour of the week, and I don't have enough recording devices to keep up.

Nice to see a Network make a GOOD decision once in a while.

The down side of the BONES moving to Tuesdays is that there is now tougher competition for Cavemen. Not that I thought it would be a hit, but it will make it that much harder for it to last longer than Viva Laughlin. Now I am worried. Red Face

My Thoughts:
I really like these moves. Bones Tuesday at 8 should give House a compatible show and help Bones by giving it some viewers who tune in early to watch House.

Kitchen Nightmares Wednesday at 9 is good as it will be the only reality show in that timeslot. If it can do 6-7 million Fox will be happy with those numbers in what is a very competetive slot.(How much better could Bones have done?)

Don't Forget The Lyrics Thursday at 9 is good as viewers will be used to it there after the summer and its cheap reality in the death slot.

New Amsterdam to midseason is good it now doesn't have to deal with baseball preemptions and might get a post idol slot.(I don't think it will be succesful though.)

I could see Fox's schedule looking like this by Feb.

Monday
8:00 Prison Break
9:00 24

Tuesday
8:00 American Idol
9:00 K-Ville/New Amsterdam

Wednesday
8:00 Back To You
8:30 Til Death
9:00 AI
9:30 The Return of Jezebel James/Unhitched

Tursday
8:00 House
9:00 Canterbury's Law

Friday
8:00 5th Grader
9:00 Bones

Sunday
7:00 King of The Hill
7:30 American Dad
8:00 The Simpsons
8:30 Family Guy
9:00 Sarah Conner Chronicles

Agree with your comment on BONES.
While everybody pointed to BIONIC
WOMAN as the vulnerable show in the
9pm wed period, I thought BONES was
in tough shape there as well. It
would have been very fortunate to do
much, if any better, than the #'s you
indicate.

Excellent moves. I predict Kitchen Nightmares will do decent business at least demo wise on Wednesdays. The game show pairings on Thursdays is good too. Overall, this is much better for Bones as it could win the Tuesday 8pm hour in the demo if its not careful (NCIS isn't that great of competition and its the only competition really besides B&tG, which should pull decent business).

I think FOX did NBC a favor moving Bones out of the Wednesday 9PM slow. It seems like Bones and Bionic Woman might have a similar audience.

I think that it was smart (for once) of FOX to move Bones back to Tuesday where it was most successful. Now, if they could pick better pilots...

My only concern for FOX is that they are relying much too heavily on reality. Once the Wednesday 9 pm hour arrives, FOX will program seven consecutive primetime hours of reality Wednesday to Saturday, and almost half their 15 primetime hours are now devoted to reality, the highest percentage amongst the big six networks.

If reality sags in the fall as viewers flock towards scripted, FOX could suffer weak weekly numbers. Based on their new fall schedule, here is what I predict in terms of FOX ranking on a night-to-night basis in A18-49:

Monday - fourth
Tuesday - second
Wednesday - fifth (FOX is really squandering the good number that Back to You will garner, many of whom will change channels when Til Death comes on, and further defection will occur at 9 pm when Kitchen Nightmares arrives)
Thursday - fourth (I think NBC will widen its lead over FOX as the season progresses)
Friday - once American Band arrives, FOX will fall to 5th place, only ranking ahead of MyNetworkTV
Saturday - FOX will hold second (behind ABC College Football), but their reality line-up is showing its age and could lose another 10-20% in A18-49s this season as has been the pattern the last few seasons
Sunday - fourth place until football finishes on NBC.

I don't think so. Ghost Whisperer and TAR aren't very compatible. Although NCIS and TAR were never compatible either, and that worked out well demo-wise.

I wonder if CBS is planning to air TAR between cycles of Survivor given that they have eliminated the non-elimination legs (bringing the episode total to eleven). I think that could work out well.
