Tuesday's American Idol had a 9.7 demo, not 4.3.
Without AI, FOX is completely dead right now.

I think we are finally seeing FOX being hit by the strike. The lack of new episodes from any of its veterans is starting to show. If Bones, House, 24, PB were on the schedule with new episodes, FOX would REALLY be doing well. But, things are looking good for FOX going into next season. Looks like they figured out to FINALLY have HOUSE at 8pm, to help out other shows. Promising new shows in T:SCC, NA or even CL could have a second chance on a Friday Night. Thursdays are doing well with 5th Grader and Lyrics. Only down side is the sudden drop from the Sunday Animation Block

FOX would look a lot better if they got their Fridays and Sundays figured out. Fridays should just be Bones/House repeats until May. It is the only thing that they have left that will work. In the fall, FOX should go all reality/game shows on Thursday and Friday. They have four shows that they can program: 5th Grader, DFTL, Kitchen Nightmares, and MOT and those should go in some order to fill up Thurs/Fri. Sundays should remain animation as breaking it up with Unhitched failed. New animation should pump some life to the lineup. The FOX Fall 2008 Lineup could look something like Monday 8:00 Prison Break 9:00 Bones 9:00 Monday has been the death slot for shows going against DWTS. FOX will only hit if they put a hit there. Tuesday 8:00 House 9:00 Fringe or Courtroom K if ready Wednesday: 8:00 Back 2 You 8:30 Til Death 9:00 Starting Under 9:30 Spaced FOX needs to create a comedy night. Placing them oddly on the schedule doesn't work. If it fails have a drama on standby. I would choose Queen B as the standby. Thursday 8:00 5th Grader 9:00 DFTL It does well enough to leave alone. Friday 8:00 Moment of Truth 9:00 Kitchen Nightmares Sure to get higher ratings than anything else FOX has tried on Friday the last few times. Saturday the usual Cops/AMW Sunday the usual animation stuff Mid-season: The Oaks, Dollhouse, AI, Courtroom K or Fringe, Queen B, 24, New Amsterdam, T:SCC (only if they can figure out how to tie it in the movie, if not cancel)

Are you planning on moving House when it's time for American Idol or putting it on hiatus or moving American Idol? And a full scrpted Wednesday night comedy block? That really seems risky considering their track record with scripted sitcoms. And Kitchen Nightmares doesn't go all year round does it?
Since FOX has only order 13 King of the Hills episodes, I'd say move the animated to Wednesday and let the American Idol results take over it's slot.

Those are some good questions. I think FOX is alternating Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen each season. For spring it is Hell's Kitchen which means fall it would be time for Kitchen Nightmares. I agree that putting on a whole night of FOX comedies are risky and it could fail but if FOX really wants to increase their comedy viewership, they have to do something to cement a time slot where viewers can expect it. Wednesday seems to be the best bet for it in the fall. With Idol coming in, the block would have to be broken up in the Spring. As for House in the spring time, it would have to move. Ideally I think FOX would be best having Bones lead off Mondays, AI on Tuesdays and House moving to Wednesdays to pair up with an hour long results show of Idol. That way two new or struggling shows could get the benefit of a strong lead in on Monday and Tuesday. If not hour long dramas, reality shows or comedies could fill in those slots. Thursdays would either remain the same or they could put DFTL on hiatus and stick in another show. Friday you could sub out Kitchen Nightmares for Hell's Kitchen and either keep Moment of Truth or stick in another show. quote: Originally posted by Ginger:

A lot of what Fox does with unscripted in the fall will depend on how well Moment of Truth holds up in the summer.
If it's able to still pull the 3.5 or so demo that it got on that one Monday airing, it may get the Thurs 9pm slot, and Fox may be an even more competitive fourth place in that brutal slot than they were with Lyrics last fall. Lyrics could then ship to Friday, where it has shown some life in the past.
Though I think SCC has earned renewal, I'm baffled as to where to put it, as it probably just rolls over and dies against Heroes. Maybe something like Wednesday 9pm.
They're in a good situation in that they only need like one or two new scripted hours in the fall. As usual, they will definitely hold at least one high priority scripted newbie (maybe even Fringe) to spring when they're much stronger.

I don't see any major moves for Fox next year. House is likely back on Tuesdays launching a new drama in the fall. There is every reason to believe Bones is Friday bound with either a gameshow or new drama paired with it. Prison Break and SCC, no matter how shaky, will fill Mondays and Wednesdays will likely see B2Y and Til Death along with Kitchen Nightmares again. Sundays could see KotH on hiatus til post-football and the Family Guy spinoff or the Pitts getting the lucrative 8:30 timeslot. A new animated comedy with some buzz will help this Sunday block overall. Come midseason, we could see some sort of House/24 Monday pairing if SCC fails and PB also sinks. PB would then end its run elsewhere (Thursdays or Fridays?) and a new drama goes after Idol on Tuesdays.

9 shows above New Amsterdam in demo: Idol, HK, DFtL, House, NASCAR, Simpsons, Family Guy, KotH, and American Dad.
Demo matters and that fact will likely mean an end to New Amsterdam. At best, the show can hope for a partial renewal to Fridays where FOX has extreme demo problems already. New Amsterdam would look good in comparison there.
