I understand it runs for 5 months, but I think it would be of more value to FOX if they would premiere it in early September and air it until the week before Christmas. It would give them an enormous leg up.
They get it for two sweeps in the winter though.

Exactly right. And if they use Idol in the fall, and it airs 4-5 hours a week to start out, there isn't any room for new shows. By airing it in the Spring, FOX has the opportunity to reinvigorate new shows that struggle out of the gate (like they did with House several years back and to a much lesser extent, 'Til Death last year).

Here is what I would do if in charge:
Monday 8:00 Prison Break (Oct - Dec) / THEM (Jan-Feb) / Prison Break (Mar - May) 9:00 THEM (Oct - Dec) 24 (Jan - May) Let's have an adrenaline packed Monday all year long. 24 will keep it's same format of running straight through in January and Prison Break and Them will just play musical chairs.
Tuesday 8:00 NURSES (Oct - Dec) / American Idol 9:00G House (Oct - Dec) / NURSES (Jan - May) A night with two shows that just happen to take place in a hospital. House stays put so Nurses doesn't get killed by Dancing w/ the Star's results until Idol comes back, when Nurses will hopefully have built an audience and then slide back into the coveted post Idol hour.
Wednesday 8:00 Bones (Jan - May) 9:00 K-VILLE (Oct - Dec) / Idol: Results (Jan - May) 9:30 K-VILLE (Oct - Dec) / The Return of Jezebel James (Jan - May) Bones will remain a Wednesday staple. And K-Ville squeaks by, so we can air something until Idol comes on and we can attempt to launch a sitcom.
Tursday 8:00 5th Grader (Oct - Dec) / House (Jan - May) 9:00 KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (Oct - Dec) / CANTERBURY'S LAW (Jan - May) 5th Grader and Kitchen Nightmares can hold the fort down until January when we get aggressive and move House. Canterbury's Law will inherit the 10/9c time slot since it's not a genre similar like the major plays in this time slot and it could work after House.
Friday 8:00 BACK TO YOU 8:30 Til Death 9:00 THE NEXT GREAT AMERICA BAND (Oct - Dec) / K-VILLE (Jan - May) Let's see if Back to You can breath some life into the sitcom FOX is treating like royalty. Then, let's give the reality wheel a spin and plop K-Ville here later if it does well enough. If anything, if can't get much worse.
Saturday 8:00 Cops 8:30 Cops 9:00 America's Most Wanted Why break tradition?
Sunday 7:00 The OT (Oct - Dec) / King of the Hill (Jan - May) 7:30 The OT (Oct - Dec) / American Day (Jan - May) 8:00 The Simpsons 8:30 King of The Hill (Oct - Dec) / Family Guy (Jan - May) 9:00 Family Guy (Oct - Dec) / SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES (Jan - May) 9:30 American Dad (Oct - Dec) / SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES (Jan - May) Once upon a time, we had a god thing going here with comedies then The X-Files. I think we can duplicate that success if we do it right. Plus, no live action comedy had done well on this night except Malcolm in the Middle.
Finally! I feel like somebody understand what I meant when I said what's wrong with Fox... The only thing I would probably change on your schedule is friday nights... But other than that, I think I agree on mostly everything.

There is no way the animated shows can survive long term in that 7pm death slot. Also, why do we need so many changes during the year? There is already too much change thanks to Idol and 24.

Jonathan, I hope that schedule is a transition one and that all of the shows that changed time slots would stay put the following year otherwise it'd be a nightmare to advertise all the changes.
Sorry, but I'll have to echo everyone else and say that Back To You wouldn't be wasted on Fridays when it has Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton. If anything, that's the one live action show that could work on Sundays because it's actually funny opposed to the other live actions ones they've tried.
Maybe something like this:
Monday 8:00 Prison Break (Oct - Dec) / THEM (Jan-Feb) / Prison Break (Mar - May) 9:00 THEM (Oct - Dec) 24 (Jan - May)
Tuesday 8:00 NURSES (Oct - Dec) / American Idol 9:00G House (Oct - Dec) / NURSES (Jan - May)
Wednesday 8:00 Nanny 911 or Trading Spouses (Oct - Dec) / 5th Grader (Jan - May) 9:00 Back To You (Oct - Dec) / Idol: Results (Jan - May) 9:30 Til Death (Oct - Dec) / Back to You (Jan - May) Family oriented reality stays
Thursday 8:00 5th Grader (Oct - Dec) / House (Jan - May) 9:00 KITCHEN NIGHTMARES or Trading Spouses (Oct - Dec) / CANTERBURY'S LAW (Jan - May) 5th Grader (and assorted reality shows) stay until House moves post-super bowl to anchor the night and redefine the night.
Friday 8:00 Bones 9:00 NEW AMSTERDAM Let's start with Bones making the leap to Fridays already and launching a new detective type show. Plus, David has got some Angel fans still who might check out New Amsterdam and I bet a few eyes may click over from CBS once Ghost Whisper is over.
Sunday 7:00 The OT (Oct - Dec) / King of the Hill (Jan - May) 7:30 The OT (Oct - Dec) / American Dad (Jan - May) 8:00 The Simpsons 8:30 Family Guy 9:00 SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES Leep the schedule changes to a minimum and start out with Sarah and save the weaker comedies for later.

Who ever it is is not doing too bad of a job. They are still one of the strongest/consistant nets on TV. New shows may have been a little lacking last year, but that happens from time-to-time. Now if you want to talk about bad taste and stupid... Lets talk about NBC.

OK. This is probably nuts, but just for fun: what if moving Bones to Tuesday in front of House is part of a master plan. Maybe come Idol Time, it appears on Wednesday and Thursday? Would they dare, do you think?

Anything is possible with Fox and honestly, I like that idea. Fox will win Tuesday without Idol and will be competitive on Monday and Sunday. Wednesday and Thursday with Idol would propel Fox to victory, leaving Friday open to 5th Grader and Lyrics. Comedies could continue to surround Idol on Wednesday with Thursday featuring a new comedy after results and a new drama. quote: Originally posted by HeightsEye: quote: Originally posted by tvfan300: I still don't see much of a reason to have House on Tuesday in the fall and Thursday in the spring. I would put the drama at 8 so that it could get a lead-out effect, but not have to go against Grey's or CSI.

Innovative and daring, but it won't happen. FOX has been trying to move Bones to Friday forever, and they don't want to move House from behind Idol for whatever reason. I just hope they don't try to stuff this hour-long Idol results show down our throat again next spring. quote: Originally posted by HeightsEye: quote: Originally posted by tvfan300: I still don't see much of a reason to have House on Tuesday in the fall and Thursday in the spring. This would require them to stick Idol against Grey's and CSI...too much dilution of viewers if you do that.

Don't worry, they will. I suspect we won't ever see Unhitched and that Return of Jezabelle James will air about 6 eps after Idol in the spring. This will allow Fox to royally waste time. As for Bones, while K-Ville was alright, I'd say it dies quickly and Bones ends up sharing Monday at 8 with Prison Break from January on. quote: Originally posted by tvfan300: Innovative and daring, but it won't happen. OK. Let's have a little more fun with this, then: You're for a 30-minute results show, and I agree with that. Those 1 hr. things were so bor-ring. I wonder if that weren't one of the reasons why the ratings were down a bit this past season. So, yeah. I like results at 8:00 eastern, new comedy, and then a new drama--something way different from, say, CSI or Grays. Is that what you have in mind?
