New Amsterdam is the most promising of the three new FOX entries...all three were shut down prior to completing their order of 12 episodes...
Jezzebel James is a mega-bomb ratings wise and critically...

Cantebury Law is a stiff and lets see how week 2 fares in comparision..they used the "daylight savings time excuse" for the premier's poor "oldster" demo numbers...

New Amsterdam episodes 2 and 3 were very good...Nikolaj Coster Waldau has great appeal...those shows were far superior to the awful pilot. The numbers on last Monday's show were encouraging...I believe it will hold and possibly build audience...if you didnt see episode 2 and 3...watch them at fox.com..well worthwhile.

I would contend the jury is still out on all three series.

Canterbury's and Jezebel James both fell victim to the daylight savings time, low-HUT 8 pm hour syndrome which should dissipate in the coming weeks. Also, I think FOX will pay close attention to see whether either series can grow its numbers week-to-week through positive word-of-mouth.

I agree with your favourable analysis of New Amsterdam, which has gotten better with each successive episode.

..new amsterdam brought on top writers for episode 2 and 3...david manson and eric overmyer...who wrote superior scripts to the pilot..
and top directors in jon coles and the great bobby roth...who are more "tv" then pilot director lasse halstrom..
i like the characters, the actors...zuleika robinson as eva is appealing as is nikolaj and stephen henderson is terrific as "omar" his son...i like the flashbacks and i believe you have to be a top actor to make them convincing and nikolaj pulls it off...

Jezebel James is out. There's no way with those ratings it is going to come back. Out of the two, New Amsterdam and Canterbury's Law, I would hang on to New Amsterdam. I think it has more promise and if marketed well, could become a player for FOX. Maybe FOX Fridays?

I have a question maybe someone here can answer. I know that nowadays people set their TiVO to record a show, or record it while watching another.

Do ratings count those who record the show?

There are several different ratings that Nielsen keeps track of on a daily (and weekly) basis.

The 'Live + Same Day' ratings (which are the ratings Marc reports here each day) count any show that was watched as it aired on TV as well as any show that was recorded, but still watched by 3am the next morning.

When you see people talk about DVR ratings, they are talking about the ratings related to 'Live + 7 Day' viewing. Those ratings come out 2-3weeks after the shows air and reflect all the viewers that watched a show within 7 days of when it aired.

There is another set of ratings, referred to as 'C3' that measure the actual commercials that get viewed during the airing of shows. The '3' reflected in that name has to do with the data being based upon counting viewers that watched the commercials live or within the first 3 days after the show aired. So, if a person uses their DVR/Tivo to record a show and they still watch the commercials when they watch the program later (within the 3 days after it airs), they will be counted as a viewer. However, if they skip passed the comercial or wait more than 3 days to watch it, they will not be counted. Advertisers use this 'C3' data to determine ad rates with the networks and the 'C3' data is barely released to the public at all.

I hope that answers your question and I am sure people will step in to correct whatever details I got wrong.

Fox knew this show sucked and had no chance regardless of where it aired. The Friday timeslot is direct indication that the network is just getting their money's worth out of the episodes. They didn't even give it a post-Idol launch and its not like we need one hour results every week. Its a goner. New Amsterdam has a shot for maybe midseason next year or a Friday timeslot perhaps paired with Bones. Canterburry's Law will at least get to air its scheduled eps imo (something that JJ won't likely get) but probably be cancelled.

Completely agree with this. Jezebel James was viewed as filler and since it is now the least watched program of the night (yes, even worse than wrestling) there's no need to air it again. My guess is that either FOX will pull the plug mid this week or mid next week when the second episode numbers come in (just like Nashville).

monday 3/17...looking forward to tonights new amsterdam...the flashbacks take him back to the 1800's...when he was a coachman for a wealthy creep...
the budget was huge for this episode...the attention to detail...it was as if they filmed "a major motion picture" not an hour tv drama...
hope director ken girardi pulled it all together...
tune in if u can..tell your friends...if we get a "credible" scripted drama these days we have to be thankful..the "alternative" will be more reality/game show slop...
so spread the word...hopefully n.a. can hold last mondays numbers and perhaps build on them...

with each new episode..i find i like the lead characters more and more...

Well, CL has performed so dismally that it's getting moved to Friday after JJ, and House repeats are being bumped to air right before NA. Seems like FOX is rounding up the losers on Friday.

If it gets a hint of promotion at all this upcoming Monday and through the week, I expect CL's move to Friday to be not all dismal and likely grow out of its pathetic lead in. The best option would be to put JJ online and use Bones repeats as the CL lead in.
