Last nights New Amsterdam numbers were disappointing...so what that the audience grew by 35 percent from the very low rated lead-in...the demo is just all right and the 7 plus million viewers aint enuff...this show costs a ton to produce...with the flashbacks that are probably confusing to the average bonehead viewer...

i hated the pilot...loved episode 2 and 3

episode 4 was disappointing...disjointed, not cohesive storytelling...

nikolaj coster waldau is terrific...i would hire him in a minute for another show in the future...

I think the biggest problem is the lead-in. NA's numbers are disappointing but it's pulling them on it's own. Compare to something like Moonlight that struggles for these figures even with two popular shows on either side. I can't imagine SCC would have done any better with a lead-in like this...

I actually liked episode 4. I loved 2 and was only so-so about last weeks.

FOX needs to move or kill CL and run some House reruns at 8PM or something.

the show is still really good and i think deserves to come back for another season but first of all its lead in is horrible, plus it was up against dancing with the stars, and the return of two and a half men so considering all this its veiwers wasnt really that bad.

ps= I agree kill cb now before it kills NEW AMSTERDAM>>>>>

How do you explain what happened when it aired after American Idol? You can't exactly blame the lead in. The first 3 episodes lost about a quarter of the audience from the previous episode and had viewers bailing out at the half hour mark. This was the first episode that didn't follow the trend of 25% of the audience from the past episode leaving. The only positive is that compared to Canterbury's Law and Jezebel James, it looks better. I'm not sold on the idea of it deserving a fall spot.

Sarah Connor has the fact another Terminator movie is coming out and FOX could use it to promote it. Plus, FOX has sunk some change into Sarah and might not want to call it quites to save face a la NBC with Joey.

Plus, FOX has a pilot from JJ Abrams (Felicity, Alias, Lost) and a seven episode order on a Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly) series. If you factor in all the shows they've already given an pick up to, I wouldn't hold my breath. Unless ratings improve (or FOX is feeling generous), don't expect anything better than a midseason order.

your right it lost ratings every half hour but to be honest the first episode wasnt that good but onward it did good. what i think they should do is cancel cb and put MOMENT OF TRUTH in place of it..

It shouldn't come as any surprise that NA may not be appealing to all AI viewers. However, the March 10th ratings were not all that far removed from the second half-hour March 6th results (which were opposite Lost themselves).

NA just needs a solid lead-in, being a new show. SCC would have been pulling similar numbers if not for it's lead-in, I'm almost certain.

I posted this in yesterday's daily thread, but I'll put it here too:

Cantebury's Law moving to Friday, New Amsterdamn will now have House reruns as a lead-in.

Good news for NA.

remember...fox president kevin reilly "inherited" this slate of shows...they were not "greenlit" on his watch...

what reilly "did do" was cut the order on all three shows (n.a., c.l. and jezebel) closing down production earlier then anticipated when he knew the "at the time" pending WGA strike was a sure thing...

so based on these facts...i'd say reilly is "apt" to NOT renew New Amsterdam...UNLESS..it does...STELLAR NUMBERS...which it has NOT to date...

I LOVE THE CAST, THE LOOK OF THE SHOW..but the overall premise is not one of its strengths...

if they can find a "great premise" for a new show..and insert nikolaj, stephen henderson, zuleika robinson...i would definitly watch it...i like their work on this show.

its a nice effort but if i was a betting man..i'd say kevin reilly is going to "bail out" on n.a. when all is said and done...

"flashback/PERIOD" shows tend to be way too "COSTLY"...and NA has so far cost fox a small fortune in production costs...
