How is the original pilot different from the one that aired?
well, consider that they only actors they kept from the original were:
- Emma Stone (as Violet), but her story was different because she abandoned her dad at the gas station in the original (thanks to silly family drama) and joined up with the Salazar brothers (who didn't have their delicious drama themselves)
- Taryn Manning (who played the "marked for elimination" girl but previously played the Army guy's girlfriend)
- Melanie Lynsky (as Wendy... whose storyline was almost identical to the original and only reshot scenes I recognized was anything with the new actors/group scenes and the final scene, since Mr. Bright was played by someone else)
- Kristen Lehman (Corinna... and since she's almost exclusively with Alex Tully, almost everything was reshot)
- Guy in the Dodge Charger
I think that's it.
So almost the entire first hour (original pilot was an hour... everything in episode two was separate from the original pilot).
There were no flashbacks to pre-race in the original. It started in Key West (after a black & white montage with expositiony voiceovers about the history of the race... good riddance! that montage was something the Fox execs had demanded anyway, so glad they eventually chopped it off). It practically started with the start of the race (minutes before the phones rang... and in the old pilot the phones were cheesy red clunkers, not product-placement-enhanced Nokias).
Salazar family story was non-existant in the original.
The three women, whose story hasn't been revealed yet, were in it but I can't remember the capacity. FYI, I think in the new version, they're Katrina victims.
Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed. If it breaks 12 million and a 5.0 in the demo, I'll be thrilled.
