Fox gives 'Kitchen' another order
Network puts 'New Amsterdam' on hiatus
By JOSEF ADALIAN

Another cycle of Gordon Ramsay reality skein 'Kitchen Nightmares' is on the menu at Fox.

Fox is cooking up more "Kitchen Nightmares."
Net has greenlit another cycle of the Gordon Ramsay reality skein, which has proved to be a solid performer in a hellish Wednesday night timeslot. At least 10 episodes of the skein will be produced for broadcast sometime next year.

Produced by A. Smith & Co, Granada and Optomen, "Nightmares" is a sort-of spinoff of "Hell's Kitchen" in which Ramsay attempts to whip wayward restaurants into shape. Fox alternative prexy Mike Darnell said the skein's hung in opposite some of TV's toughest competition, including "Private Practice," "Criminal Minds" and "Bionic Woman."

"To be doing well and moving up on that night and against that competition is nothing short of miraculous," he said, noting "Kitchen Nightmare's" week-to-week ratings growth. "I think this show is going to be on this network for a long time."

Greenlight for another cycle of "Nightmares" sets up the possibility of year-round Ramsay on Fox. Net is currently in production on back-to-back cycles of "Hell's Kitchen," with the current 10-episode season of "Nightmares" in the can.

In addition to the two shows for Fox, Ramsay continues to star in multiple skeins for British television.

"Nightmares" is exec produced by Arthur Smith, Pat Llewellyn, Kent Weed, Curt Northrup and Gerry McKean.

Meanwhile, Fox has put immortal cop drama "New Amsterdam" on hiatus effective immediately. Seven episodes of the skein have been produced of the show's original order.

Reduction comes two days after the net cut back its order for laffer "The Return of Jezebel James." Insiders said Fox believes it has a lot on its midseason plate, and putting "Amsterdam" on hiatus will let execs better evaluate the segs already produced.

I'm not surprised that they ordered more Kitchen Nightmares. It will probably come back in the summer right after new episodes of Hell's Kitchen.

I bet it ends up on Thursdays at 9 or Fridays somehow. I actually think Sundays at 7 might work too.

Kitchen Nightmares will be used as filler.

I don't know why Fox doesn't put 24 at 8pm and use it as a lead-in for Sarah Connor.

All they're doing is splitting the 9pm viewership between 24 and Heroes.

I think Sarah, which is more clearly a genre show, would get murdered by Heroes. Even with the lead-in.

I'd guess Kitchen Nightmares will show up in the spring. A lot of it depends on what happens with House & Idol... it'd be great counterprogramming on Thursday at 9 if Fox continues to hold both House & Idol off the night. Otherwise, I could see it being that rare show that could carve out some momentum for Fox on Friday.

I think Sarah Connor would be a bit more female skewing (kind of like Prison Break) and the Terminator name alone would help it do better than K-Ville is. Then K-Ville could air after Bones and House could go to Thursday to lead off that night. Wednesdays could be Back to You, Til Death, and 5th Grader with Kitchen Nightmares pairing with the similar loud mouthed House on Thursday. Fridays could be the Idol spinoff and DFTL.
