-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a Monday of split leadership, with dancing ignited ABC the most-watched network and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49 -- one-tenth of a rating point ahead of second-place CBS in the demo. NBC finished fourth in both categories, followed by The CW.
Another two-hour installment of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars was amply sampled with 17.64 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/9 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 16.70 million (#1), A18-49: 3.3/ 8 (#3)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 17.89 million (#1), A18-49: 3.5/ 9 (#2)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 17.64 million (#1), A18-49: 3.6/ 9 (#2)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 18.33 million (#1), A18-49: 3.7/ 9 (#2)
My pick to bid adieu tonight: shaky Aaron Carter, who has never been a fan favorite.
Dancing With the Stars led into Castle, which finished second behind CBS’ CSI Miami (Viewers: 13.83 million; A18-49: 4.0/11) with a respectable 10.72 million viewers and a 2.5/ 7 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m.. Comparably, retention for Castle out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars was 58 percent in viewers and 68 percent in the demo.
CBS had what you would call a typical Monday with its combination of How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #3, 8.96 million; A18-49: #2, 3.5/ 9), which always delivers among adults 18-49, Accidentally on Purpose (Viewers: #3, 8.20 million; A18-49: #3, 3.0/ 7), which was recently picked up for five additional episodes, Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 14.12 million; A18-49: #1, 4.4/11), compatible The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #2, 12.41 million; A18-49: #1, 4.5/11) and aforementioned CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 13.83 million; A18-49: #1, 4.0/11). CSI: Miami featured part one of the three episode CSI franchise crossover of Laurence Fishburne this week.
Next was Fox care of House (Viewers: #2, 12.79 million; A18-49: #1, 5.1/13), which has a lock for dominance in the 8 p.m. hour among adults 18-49, and 9 p.m. time period warmer Lie To Me (Viewers: #3, 7.46 million; A18-49: #3, 3.0/ 7).
Elsewhere, NBC continues to open the week on a depressed note with its failing line-up of aging Heroes (Viewers: #4, 5.35 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 6), canceled medical drama Trauma (Viewers: #4, 5.37 million; A18-49: #4, 1.8/ 4) and struggling The Jay Leno Show (Viewers: #3, 3.96 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 3), which deserves to be canceled immediately but that would leave NBC with five hours to fill in primetime. Last was CW combo One Tree Hill (Viewers: 2.67 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3) and Gossip Girl (Viewers: 2.31 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3), which continue to benefit after the DVR usage is factored in.
