I'm always amazed when TAR viewers act as if the show has performed on a level near that of Survivor. It isn't even a close race. Survivor is a vastly superior performer.
I agree with all but the last sentence.
Survivor was a Juggernaut that was scoring 20 plus million viewers (when TAR was getting 8 and 9). But Survivor has declined dramatically over the years. TAR hasn't. It has actually increased. This last cycle was its 3rd most watched season.
With it averaging 14.28 in the fall and 12.744 in the spring TAR off schedule performance of 11.169 isn't that far off of Survivor's low levels. And while TAR was helped (50% of the time) by sports overruns it also aired for many weeks during the December/ January break where HUT levels are dramatically lower.
So while Survivor is the superior ratings performer, I don't think I would use the adjective "Vastly".

Fair enough, if you are ignoring history and just looking at the most recent season. I was responding to someone that questioned CBS's commitment to TAR based upon timeslot changes, format changes, etc... for TAR over the years. There is clear and irrefutable evidence over the span of times that the two shows have aired that Survivor has been the 'vastly' superior ratings performer. The gap narrowing going forward doesn't really speak to the reasons why TAR has had timeslot changes, the family edition, or 'gimmick' rules changes.
Side note: I doubt CBS is the reason for things like the Yield and Intersection (though they did have a hand in Rob/Amber). Show producers make most of those changes, not the network. Survivor has had plenty of 'gimmick' format changes over the years as well. The producers are simply trying to keep the show from getting stale; something that TAR's format struggles with even more than Survivor's.

I'm not sure why people are shocked or why they are expecting a 'huge drop'. It makes far more sense for this show to be popular than for Wipeout to be popular.
Watched part of Dance Machine last night. I have to say, I actually liked the format and got the fact that the dancers were so bad they were good concept. I honestly think had ABC promoted it heavily like some of their other fare, it would've succeeded. However, I'm sure they're looking out for Dance overkill so its probably the best plan just to get your money's worth and burn off eps on Fridays. The hosts were by far the worst part but the music end was actually kind of fun.
That spin is hilarious! GREATEST AMERICAN DOG also dominated the upscale canine audience, placing first with English bulldogs, Akitas, Cavalier King Charles spaniels and Norfolk Terriers

I can see the series now. Instead of calling it Beverly Hills 90210 they could call it Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Oh, wait. A product of that quality would be far too good for ABC. They should put it directly on the big screen.
I think they should do a reality show with the Chihuahuas and other Pets of Hollywood's bad girls - like Paris, Nicole and Lindsey. If those pets could talk .....

LOL!
Considering the audience CBS has had this summer, they must be in a take-what-you-can-get mode.

Survivor at it's worst is still better than TAR at its best in terms of ratings, so I have to agree.
