I'm always amazed when TAR viewers act as if the show has performed on a level near that of Survivor. It isn't even a close race. Survivor is a vastly superior performer.

Yet another example of most people not really being able to change channels and move around from network to network 'independently'. CBS has the old people stranglehold, but the young people only turn to the channel for a very few programs.

To me it is just hysterical. Do these old people know how to use a remote control ? I mean do they just leave their TV's tuned to CBS, and just watch whatever they have on every single night ? It is really quite funny. Other than the CBS sitcoms, Survivor, and The Amazing Race this network has the same old people watching all the other shows. They are going to be in some big trouble several years from now, when you know what will happen to a lot of their viewers.

The network will be fine, the viewers that are "young" now will be old at that point and will be watching only CBS replacing the one's that "dropped off". Big Grin

LOL, very good analogy.

Who here thinks that Dance Machine and Duel will not even get 2 million tonight?

There's absolutely nothing on TV. All of the selections is reruns, movies, and filler. For that reason alone, it won't rate that low.

It's been widely commented that CBS viewers tend to watch three hour blocks of CBS and pretty much watch anything on CBS, regardless of quality. However, has anyone done a survey or article figuring out why this happens? Is it the selection of shows? Do the actors just all appeal to an older demo? Is it because when they were younger they watched CBS and now they just remain loyal? Changing the channel isn't that hard. There has to be some underlying psychological reason behind it.

Marc--

Any chance we could get numbers for "Burn Notice" when they become available?

I've heard others mention in, not in this thread but in the past, and I completely agree. CBS should move "Flashpoint" from Fridays, it premieres tonight, to Thursdays behind "CSI" as they would both go together so well. Then, the dying "Swingtown" can move to Fridays.

Awesome. If it can stay in this range, I wouldn't be surprised to see it get moved to 9 next year to launch a new series - they did the same thing with Monk, which aired at 10 for a few years.

Hmm interesting Thursday.
CBS:
Dog seemed to outdo everyone's expectations. I'm not sold people will return in droves though as reviews were rather poor. CSI went up for its repeat number this week because the lead in was much higher. In the past, a CSI repeat was guaranteed 10 million no problem. The strike and all those repeats have taken their tole. Swingtown was a loser last night but its demo is higher than a good 50% of what airs on CBS including the entire Friday-Sunday lineup and I believe almost all of it not all of Tuesday and Wednesday night too. Its going nowhere as additional crime repeats aren't going to do any better demo-wise and everyone knows the demo is what matters, not total viewers. Plus, I don't think the eye really cares about July sweeps.

ABC: If they were going to pull something this summer for fresh stuff why wasn't it Ugly Betty and Greys? I would've had those Wed. shows repeating this summer if anything, giving viewers a chance for catch up. Eli Stone and Samantha Who should also get repeat dibs if you ask me. The Primetime eps from Tue. and Wed. could then air back to back on Thursdays into Hopkins. Its not rocket science.

NBC: Last Comic Standing is no where near as strong as it was but that 2.1 demo will be in the top half of NBC shows this week.

Fox: Give the gameshows a break already! Why they couldn't have aired Moment of Truth on Thursdays this summer and tried out something new on either Monday or Tuesday is beyond me. I think Fox may run into problems with overexposure for 5th Grader and Lyrics this fall and with Moment of Truth failing, they may have some holes to fill. Fox Thursday could have a long fall.

But ABC is wasting those Eli Stone repeats on Saturday nights for everyone to catch up on the show. Roll Eyes

Hopkins: 5.48M viewers 1.6 (18-49)
Burn Notice: 5.40M viewers 1.7 (18-49) ???
Swingtown: 5.40M viewers 1.8 (18-49)
Last Comic S: 5.25M viewers 2.2 (18-49)
Pending the final numbers, it looks like a 4 way dead heat race in viewers. I think Last Comic Standing has the 18-49 demo won, but I'm not sure what the current conversion rate is so I had to guess a bit on Burn Notice.

Given how poorly TV viewers adapt to schedule changes, I don't think it would be a good idea to run the Wednesday shows through Thursdays in the summer. I do think ABC is taking a big risk of losing the audience by trying to 're-launch' the shows, though.
