It is a shame that the election coverage was ad supported in the first place, (the news night should just be uninterrupted election coverage) since that 'special' one time programming should not be included into the sweeps ratings anyway. It should be factored out, just like a holiday.

Tuesday's election programming easily out rated it's usuall shows by almost a full point for the night. Where as CBS hit hard by election night losing almost 1.5 points in the demo and more than half its viewing audience.

I'm surprised that NBC is second for the week Eeker

That statement is so idiotic. NBC pays hundreds of millions of dollars for NFL rights so they could have these highly rated hours. Why should we just forget about them when we hear that NBC is in 2nd place? How about if we say that if it were not for DH, GA, and election coverage ABC would be in 3rd place? You could remove the highest rated shows from any network and their average will drop.

I don't think TV-aholic was saying to forget the football numbers. In responding to lopez, S/He was explaining the reason NBC was, surprisingly, in second place. And I think the focus of the answer was on the special election coverage, which did much better than NBC's usual Tuesday lineup.

OK, my apologies then. It just does not seem right when people say things like, "without the NFL NBC's ratings would be this", because NBC does have the NFL.

At least he provides the ratings data people want to see. Someone else on this site withholds information he has because people won't play a game. Silly, just silly.

Why would a strike be good for NBC or for anyone for that matter? NBC needs to try heroes on another night. It's only gonna get worse when 24 comes to mondays. Why is everyone trying to cram their best shows on Mondays now -- are mondays the new Thursdays?

I agree. NBC's best hope is probably for another strike (shout out to SAG). Otherwise, they are in big trouble later this season. Even their standout shows (Heroes and DoND) are fading fast.

Versus cannot offer much audience, so the long term health of the sport will see even further declines with the move to Versus.

This type of tactics is why the IRL left ESPN for Versus, starting Next year.
ESPN has gotten too big for itself. MLB and the NFL are about the only sports leagues that can push ESPN around.... a little.

The IRL left for Versus because ESPN/ABC didn't want that racing outfit anymore beyond the Indy 500 and a few other races. The other IRL races had to go somewhere else.

Despite a ratings decline this year, NASCAR still has enough of a following to rightfully protest last night's demotion. FOX would have stuck it out to the end.

So Al, you really think NBC is in good shape????

Have you ever contributed anything POSITIVE to this forum, or is your only mission to bust Marc's Balls, for no good reason?

For a true look and NBC, look at the ratings from 2 weeks ago. No Football, No Election coverage. They posted a 2.2 in the demo.
Thats with there regular programming, on its own.

NBC can't get a regular series to consistanly post 10 million viewers. SVU is now to the point of averaging 9.5 million.

For once Marc, could you get your head out of CBS behind, please? Sure, they win the viewers count, but did anyone teach you that 18-49 is the most important demographic?

Um...that move was more likely a response to the fact that close to no one wants to watch the IRL/CART/etc... open wheelers anymore. The series has all but destroyed itself and now isn't worthy of 'real network' coverage.

Well, ESPN might dick around with leagues (other than the NFL), but they are also the network that will deliver the biggest ratings. They are the sports destination for fans in this country. IRL will go to Versus and their ratings will plummet just like the NHL. Versus has a much much lower subscriber count then ESPN, on top of the fact that fans know how to find ESPN, they don't know how to find Versus.

No mention about Brother and sisters actually increasing it's audience from last week? I still think it's the best drama on tv right now -- very addictive storylines.

My goodness, no matter how much hype the overhyped 'Brothers and Sisters' gets, it just cannot hang on to the already-shrinking 'Desperate Housewives' audience. A loss of 35 percent in total viewers? Ouch.

Eeker

Really? You are a fan of Brothers and Sisters?

Its not a matter of forgetting them, its putting them in perspective.

The difference is NBC didn't do a thing to make the NFL the hit it is; they just paid to air it.

Plus, for some reason they keep putting it on hiatus at mid-season. Smiler

I'm sure that Douglas spends lots of time formatting all that specific market data to post here. If less than 30 people even care to see it, why should he go to the trouble?

I am now once again concerned about Christine and Gary going up against Idol. Do you think CBS would move the mentalist to Wed at 8 and move Christine and gary to 9? I was already happy that it was making some improvements where it is -- and there goes Fox finally getting the sense to use the idol results show as a lead in for a new show.
