High-rated election coverage and SNL specials. Now that they don't have either the rest of the sweeps, they'll have a hard-time staying second.
It'll be a battle for first become the election coverage also helped ABC to a certain degree, but ABC should finish strong with the last week of DWTS, and special eps of DH and Grey's. Key is if Wednesdays and Fridays don't drop further, and if their remaining Saturday football matchups keep performing well.
If I were ABC, I would move The Polar Express move to the last Wednesday of sweeps (or even the Friday before) -- it will do well enough to keep them in first place. Right now, they have it scheduled for the Friday after sweeps...

Um...that move was more likely a response to the fact that close to no one wants to watch the IRL/CART/etc... open wheelers anymore. The series has all but destroyed itself and now isn't worthy of 'real network' coverage.

Did you see these ratings Marc? NBC in 2nd place in 18-49? Ahead of CBS. After reading your daily "analysis" one would think NBC was buried in last place. For once Marc, could you get your head out of CBS behind, please? Sure, they win the viewers count, but did anyone teach you that 18-49 is the most important demographic?
3 hours of Football and the 3 hours from Election night are the main reason for the decent numbers.
Tuesday's election programming easily out rated it's usuall shows by almost a full point for the night. Where as CBS hit hard by election night losing almost 1.5 points in the demo and more than half its viewing audience.

I'm surprised that NBC is second for the week
That statement is so idiotic. NBC pays hundreds of millions of dollars for NFL rights so they could have these highly rated hours. Why should we just forget about them when we hear that NBC is in 2nd place? How about if we say that if it were not for DH, GA, and election coverage ABC would be in 3rd place? You could remove the highest rated shows from any network and their average will drop.

they've been doing it for over a full decade. Rather was sucking air way before he left. In fact, CBS News hasn't been the same since Walter Cronkite left almost 30 years ago.
The CBS News Division must be ran by some of the same people that run NBC's Entertainment Divisions.

I don't think TV-aholic was saying to forget the football numbers. In responding to lopez, S/He was explaining the reason NBC was, surprisingly, in second place. And I think the focus of the answer was on the special election coverage, which did much better than NBC's usual Tuesday lineup.
No. I know someone tightly connected to the IRL and they wanted to move away from ESPN.
The Net just Dicks them, and other sports leagues, around since they have all the power.
Under the old ESPN contract, the IRL PAID ESPN for their broadcasts ( happens with a lot of leagues). Now Versus will Pay them and air more of the league.

Actually, they were closing the gap when Bob Shieffer was the interim anchor. But they took a gamble with Katie Couric, and despite her high profile and some high profile interviews, the gamble has not paid off...

Marc, have you noticed that (based on dumonts numbers) NBC has the smallest year to year to decline of all the networks in demo, household, and viewers (of 6%, 3%, and 3% respectively)? Your good 'ole darling CBS is down 18% in demo, 10% in HH, and 10% in viewers. While your #2 darling FOX has huge drops of 24%, 21%, and 22%. Funny, I never hear you mention about these yearly drops for either network. FOX' numbers are down at an alarming rate. It is almost like your analysis is based on something else other than the actual ratings...
