Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
----------
-Saturday’s Winners: Nothing. NCAA Basketball on CBS was dominant, but far from significant.
-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats): As usual, the night overall.
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: It was another win for CBS care of 2008 NCAA Basketball Second Round, Day 1, which averaged 8.99 million viewers and a 3.3 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 for the prime-time portion. One year earlier, the match-ups averaged an approximate 9.70 million viewers and a 3.4/12 in the demo on Saturday, March 24, 2007.
Second overall for the evening was the annual telecast of theatrical The Ten Commandments on ABC, with 7.91 million viewers and a 2.3/ 7 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Next was Fox with its perennial combination of Cops (Viewers: #3, 5.42 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 7) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #3, 5.94 million; A18-49: #3, 2.0/ 6), which were both below average opposite basketball. And capping off the evening was NBC’s encore combination of Celebrity Apprentice (Viewers: #4, 2.38 million; A18-49: #4, 0.6/ 2 – go Piers Morgan!), Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #4, 5.20 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 4) and granddaddy Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 6.11 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 5). Sadly, there is always very little to say on Saturday.

I would suspect that "The Ten Commandments" did more harm to FOX than basketball did.
The tournement always starts slow the first few weeks and then builds. The numbers might continue to track behind last year however, because there doesn't seem to be anything unusually intersting this season. Still, CBS has won the demo easily the last three nights and it is still a positive for eye.

Congratulations to Douglas (ME) winning his 4th game of the fall PIFC CUP.
tvfan300 barely did continue to build on his consecutive game points streak, now at 47 games.
Check out the PIFC Cup Web site for all the current standings, stats and more. Game #70 of the PIFC is now live. Also, Don't forget about the Great game... The Daily Game

And when do you get results for The Ten Commandments from 7pm-11:44pm?
Well, first they are fast nationals and as Marc always says live sports programming can change a great deal when the finals are released. I just don't think there is anything particularly special about this season. The traditional powers are powerful, but nothing really to attract the more casual fan. Also, the NCAA is now streaming games live - not sure if that would make any difference. Still, the numbers will pick up as we get towards the finals. I would think a final four with two of among NC, UCLA or Kansas and one or two upstart mid majors or surprise major conference teams would do quite well.
Hey Marc, where are you getting your last year's data? I'm getting mine from you, and I don't know about the final weekly's, but last year on Sat 3/24 in the overnights you reported CBS with 8.26 million and a 2.6/6.
Yes, Hawk-eye, you're correct about the internet streaming. I know many people who are watching March Madness on the net because they can choose the games and have to watch whatever is being fed to the affiliates. I really wish CBS would release these numbers.
I think the fact that we have an early Easter this year could also be effecting the numbers. With it being the beginning of spring break for many grammar and high school students, families are now either visiting relatives or going on a spring vacation.
Where I live, the games are on CBS, but they provide another option and have different ones on My Network TV... so this is another consideration for the lower #s.

Thanks for that info, Obveeus. One thing I notice about CBS's streaming of BB is that, unlike ESPN360's college football (which does a lot of promo ESPN during), there are a great number more commercials. I'm sure ESPN will catch-up, but I wonder what the revenue stream is for CBS. I have one game on CBS TV and another is streaming. The only problem is CBS keeps switching back and forth to the game I am streaming which is about 2 minutes behind the network feed. It's enough to make my head explode.
Ok folks here is the deal on the NCAA Tournament......Due to how the calendar falls this year the 1st round is a week later than last year.
Marc is comparing this year's first round #s with last years second round #s. This is like compairing apples to oranges and does not give a true reflection.
With that being said I am not sure how this year's 1st round is comparing to last years. But the information provided by Marc is an unfair comparison.
