Prime-Time Ratings:
Saturday 10/20/07

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 10.89 million, CBS: 7.00, ABC: 4.39, NBC: 3.83

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 3.4 rating/11 share, CBS: 1.6/ 5, ABC: 1.5/ 5, NBC: 1.2/ 4

--------------------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Saturday’s Winners:
American League Championship Baseball Series, Game 6 (Fox)

-Honorable Mention:
48 Hours Mystery (CBS)

-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Saturday Night Football (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox scored an easy Saturday victory, with game six of the Indians/Red Sox American League Championship Series Baseball match-up at an approximate 10.89 million viewers and a 3.4 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 in prime-time. The year-ago game one World Series competition between St. Louis and Detroit averaged 12.84 million viewers with a 3.6/12 in the demo. This performance proves that there can be an available audience on Saturday with the right programming choices. As a reminder, fast national results for any live sporting event are always estimated.

CBS finished second overall care of a repeat of Without a Trace (Viewers: #2, 6.01 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4), a repeat of CSI: Miami (Viewers: #2, 7.57 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 5), and perennial 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #1: 7.41 million; A18-49: #2, 2.0/ 6). Football on ABC finished third overall, with 4.39 million viewers and a 1.5/ 5 among adults 18-49. And last, and very least in every half hour, was NBC’s repeat combination of Bionic Woman (Viewers: 3.49 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 4), Chuck (Viewers: 3.32 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 4), and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: 4.68 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 4).

Well, as we've seen the past couple of seasons, the networks are not exactly able to do this, on a consistant level. Big Grin

Marc:

I wish that were true - but this was event programming and I doubt the networks can do this all year long.

I wish the NCAA and the NFL would get together. I believe NFL Saturday Night Football would be a ratings grabber - but I believe the NFL has an agreement with the NCAA to stay away from Saturday.

I'm surprised the game even did that well, considering the Red Sox crushed them, and it was over pretty early.

About the same as Moonlight. Fridays and Saturdays now appear to be equal. CBS really needs to look into programming this night. If Shark continues to decline, perhaps Saturday would be a night for it.

As long as CBS as success like this on saturdays, we will never see original programming from them on this night.

The were only a couple million behind FOX and Beat ABC, who both hve high priced sports franchizes on the night.

NBC just doesn't have the programs to duplicate what CBS can do.

zI believe that agreement is an unwriten agreement. More that NFL wants College football to have it own spotlight. Doesn't want to intrude on the NCAA.

The NFL would do better here, but unless its a BIG game of the week, it wouldn't do gang-busters, especially for the price that a Network would have to pay the NFL.

If last nights game was Tampa vs Detroit, you might see 12 million, tops.

FOX should get a big number tonight for Game #7. Expect NBC to take another hit tonight.

Why would they put and pay for original programming for Saturday when repeats of the CSI's and others can pull the same numbers, if not better.

From Saturday 10.14.07's PI:

CBS finished just the opposite, second in total viewers and third among adults 18-49, with its line-up of a repeat of Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 6.70 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 7), a repeat of CSI: Miami (Viewers: #3, 6.11 million; A18-49: #3, 1.6/ 5), and 48 Hours Investigates (Viewers: #3, 5.68 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 5).

Last in every half-hour was NBC’s repeat combination of Life (Viewers: 2.66 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 2), Chuck (Viewers: 3.34 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3), and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: 4.71 million; A18-49: 1.3/ 5).
-----

Today's:

CBS finished second overall care of a repeat of Without a Trace (Viewers: #2, 6.01 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4), a repeat of CSI: Miami (Viewers: #2, 7.57 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 5), and perennial 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #1: 7.41 million; A18-49: #2, 2.0/ 6).

------------

So there's considerable growth, maybe the weather was just bad across the nation last night Smiler

Last night's game was over by the third inning ... and well before 8pm in the west.

I think that helped the earlier shows in the western time zone.

NBC will take a hit tonight BTW, and Pittsburgh and Denver are smaller markets tonight.

Tampa-Detroit in my house right now has a 100 share so be careful who you pick on. It's a battle of two potential playoff teams Smiler

Pretty decent showing for a game that was as good as over by the halfway point in primetime at the latest, in the eastern time zone. Game 7 should do really well. And NBC's SNF will probably suffer once again.

I'm not a big fan of SNF - even though I love the NFL. Six hours of NFL is more than enough - plus NBC has ruined it as the old SNF announcing crew on ESPN was great. Michaels and Madden are tired.

Football will be down some but, I bet the baseball and football will be close to even in the demo, which is really a big win for the NFL if you consider that the baseball game is a game 7 of an LCS, while football is just a regular season game. Whatever baseball gets tonight let's just wait for the primetime AFC or NFC champoinship game for true comparisons.
