Prime-Time Ratings:
Wednesday 7/02/08

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 8.65 million, CBS: 8.28, NBC: 5.37, ABC: 4.47, CW: 1.03

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 3.2 rating/10 share, NBC: 2.0/ 6, CBS: 1.7/ 5, ABC: 1.5/ 5, CW: 0.4/ 1

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
So You Think You Can Dance (Fox), Criminal Minds R (CBS), CSI: NY R (CBS)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
Celebrity Circus (NBC), despite finishing first in the 10 p.m. hour among adults 18-49. Retention in the demo out of the second-half of lead-in Baby Borrowers was just 63 percent.

----------

-Repeat Alert:
54 percent of last night’s schedule was non-originals.

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox led the Wednesday troops care of another two-hour edition of the s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d So You Think You Can Dance, which averaged 8.65 million viewers and a 3.2 rating/10 share adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox)
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 7.66 million (#1), A18-49: 2.8/10 (#1)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 8.74 million (#1), A18-49: 3.2/11 (#1)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 9.13 million (#1), A18-49: 3.3/10 (#1)
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 9.07 million (#2), A18-49: 3.3/10 (#1)

Comparably, this is slightly below its national average in the summer of 2007.

CBS finished second in total viewers and third overall among adults 18-49 with its encore line-up of The Price is Right (Viewers: #2, 7.43 million; A18-49: #2, 1.6/ 5), Criminal Minds (Viewers: #2, 9.00 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 6) and CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 8.42 million; A18-49: #2, 1.9/ 6). As I say all the time, Criminal Minds does not get the attention it deserves.

Week two of NBC’s Baby Borrowers held up relatively well, with 6.82 million viewers (#3) and a second-place 2.8/ 9 among adults 18-49 (#2) from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that was down by 1.13 million viewers and three percent from its debut one week earlier (Viewers: 7.95 million; A18-49: 2.9/ 9 on June 25). Keep in mind that most new series decline in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in their second week. Also on NBC was a repeat of Baby Borrowers at 8 p.m. (Viewers: #3, 4.35 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 5) and the inane Celebrity Circus at 10 p.m. (Viewers: #3, 4.96 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 6). If NBC was looking to recreate the classic Circus of the Stars, it missed the boat completely. Sorry, Peter Brady!

ABC finished fourth overall in both total viewers and adults 18-49 with its combination of a repeat of Wife Swap (Viewers: #4, 3.88 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 5), a repeat of Supernanny (Viewers: #4, 3.88 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 4) and Primetime: Crime (Viewers: #2, 5.65 million; A18-49: #2, 1.8/ 6). Don’t forget that both Wife Swap and Supernanny are moving to Friday next season. And the CW capped off the evening with repeats of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #5, 1.10 million; A18-49: #5, 0.4/ 1) and Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll (Viewers: #5, 956,000; A18-49: #5, 0.3/ 1).

To whet your appetite for the fall, here is what you will be seeing on Wednesday. New shows are capped.

ABC:
8:00 p.m. Pushing Daisies
9:00 p.m. Private Practice
10:00 p.m. Dirty Sexy Money

CBS
8:00 p.m. The New Adventures of Old Christine (new day and time)
8:30 p.m. PROJECT GARY
9:00 p.m. Criminal Minds
10:00 p.m. CSI: NY

NBC
8:00 p.m. KNIGHT RIDER
9:00 p.m. Deal or No Deal
10:00 p.m. Lipstick Jungle (new day)

Fox
8:00 p.m. Bones (new day)
9:00 p.m. ‘Til Death (new time)
9:30 p.m. DO NOT DISTURB

CW
8:00 p.m. America’s Next Top Model
9:00 p.m. STYLISTA

Hmmm...TPiR was up about 1.5 million viewers from last week. Now we know what DoND viewers watch when Howie and friends aren't on Smiler

Baby Borrowers took a bit of an overall dip yesterday...I could see it fall further now that the babies have moved on. Can't see viewers getting excited at watching teens taking care of other teens and the elderly.

(Did catch part of last night's show. OK concept, but it comes off more like big-budget babysitting than a parenting class. If the show comes back for a second run, I'd like to see NBC tweak the concept -- perhaps a new group of wanna-be parents taking care of infants and toddlers each week?)

Celebrity Circus: to quote Adam Sandler, who are the ad wizards who came up with this one? This is something networks created back in, say, 1951, as an alternative to on-air snow. They'd air this between pro wrestling and roller derby.

instead of having a competitions hsow, they should have kept the spirit of Circus of the Starts and just have different acts and stars each week. Then they may have been able to grab some BIGGER stars to participate.

Who, earlier this week, said these two shows repeat well?

If this is "Well", I would hate to see what "BAD" is.

So CM won the night with a repeat. Maybe that's why CBS wants a spin-off.

Weird those disapearing viewers at 9:30 point of DANCE. I don't watch the show so I don't know if the person is eliminated before that point so there is no reason to watch the last half hour?

CELEBRITY CIRCUS...I have a hard and fast rule. I NEVER watch anything with the title of CELEBRITY in it after CELEBRITY BOOT CAMP tarnished my memory of the regular BOOT CAMP.

Thanks for posting the fall WED line up.
Everytime I see the words KNIGHT RIDER I have this thought
"Dead Show Walking" after the fade out of viewer curiosity.

Help keep SWINGTOWN on for at least the summer.
Watch tonight 10PM CBS.

Why is the CW airing repeats of PCD? They cancelled it, so why air a show not coming back? Same goes for B&tG on Tuesday's. Why not air that relity show 13? The CW also needs to look into renewing FWAW for Wednesday's next summer.

Criminal Minds did well last night in terms of viewership. So did TPIR. Last week it was in the 6 millions and all of a sudden its in the mid 7's. Big jump, huh?

Baby Borrowers will be below 6 million viewers next week, and the demo will fall more. Celebrity Circus should be axed now. Just because it won the 10pm slot means absolutley nothing. It's exactly like Swingtown winning the 10pm slot on Thursday's.

ABC, crappy results. At least Pushing Daisies is returning this fall. Smiler

FOX, same old same for a Wednesday night.

Nice hold for Baby Borrowers, especially with the badly-rated repeat as a lead-in. I would guess that the premiere skewed older because a lot of post-DOND sampling, but ultimately the show's audience will be pretty young.

Ausiello announced it yesterday from his new column at Entertainment Weekly

"As I say all the time, Criminal Minds does not get the attention it deserves."

The same could be said for the majority of CBS shows, which are steady (yes, they are procedures. One key reason: unlike ABC, CBS does not push the publicity cycle to the max, which ultimately leads to longevity. I guarantee you if DH, GA or Lost were on CBS, the shows would have been more nutured and not exploited for the quick hit. Now ABC is paying for it.

You heard the predictions that CW would fold next year. Now you know why.

CBS shows always repeat well, at least in viewers. Red Face

It won the demo, but it barely beat a repeat.

Me neither, but I'm guessing stretching it out did that.

Baby Borrowers will keep falling until it gets cancelled. Honestly, it is a terrible idea. The drop in ratings doesn't surprise me.

As for Celebrity Circus, I've said before that a circus show at 10 PM is a horrible programming decision. It is a kids and family show and they aren't watching at that time. Regardless, it is younger skewing and if given an appropriate time, it would do well. I have no doubt that NBC will be renewing it next summer.

Why is Girlicious shown again in repeat? No one watched it the first time and the show is cancelled. Why not just put on Crowned repeats? That will be sure to bring the ratings down.

CM spinoff is a great idea that will sure to be a hit if done even decently. It has more promise than any of the new CBS fall drama and mid-season drama ideas except maybe The Tower. And with the reviews the fall pilots are getting for CBS, they may need the spinoff in a hurry.

I think that's the format ABC would have had, had they continued with the Circus of the Stars remake.
