-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC remains the network to beat on Monday care of Dancing With the Stars, which led the troops with a hefty 21.57 million viewers and a 5.3 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9:30 p.m. My pick to bid adieu tonight: Jane Seymour. Dancing With the Stars led into week three of sitcom Samantha Who?, which won the 9:30 p.m. half-hour in total viewers (15.36) with a second-place finish (behind NBC’s Heroes) among adults 18-49 (4.9/11). Compared to one week earlier (Viewers: 14.42 million; A18-49: 4.5/10 on Oct. 15), that was an increase of 940,000 viewers and nine percent in the demo. Keep in mind that Samantha Who? moves to 9 p.m. on Monday on Nov. 26 into the returning Notes From the Underbelly.
ABC capped off the evening with The Bachelor at a second-place finish in both total viewers (10.59 million) and adults 18-49 (3.9/10). Look for the return of drama October Road in this time period also on Nov. 26 (and following a preview out of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, Nov. 22).
CBS had what you would now refer to as a typical Monday care of How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #2, 8.55 million; A18-49: #2, 3.3/ 9), The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #2, 8.92 million; A18-49: #2, 3.6/ 9), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 14.12 million; A18-49: #2, 5.1/12), Rules of Engagement (Viewers: #2, 11.24 million; A18-49: #3, 4.2/ 9) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 15.19 million; A18-49: #1, 4.8/12). Worth positively noting was growth for freshman The Big Bang Theory out of How I Met Your Mother of 370,000 viewers and nine percent among adults 18-49.
NBC was also at usual Monday levels with its line-up of Chuck (Viewers: #3, 7.03 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 7), Heroes (Viewers: #3, 10.45 million; A18-49: #2: 4.9/11) and struggling Journeyman (Viewers: #3, 5.93 million; A18-49: #3: 2.4/ 6). Retention this week for Journeyman out of Heroes was just 57 percent in total viewers and 49 percent among adults 18-49. The year-ago occupant, Friday Night Lights, averaged 8.26 million viewers and a 3.5/ 9 among adults 18-49. Also disappointing: Chuck, which dipped from former occupant Deal or No Deal one year earlier (Viewers: 16.90 million; A18-49: 4.8/13 on Oct. 30, 2006) by a massive 9.87 million viewers and 44 percent in the demo. While no one should have expected Chuck to match Deal or No Deal, the erosion should not be this steep.
Fox replaced its tentatively scheduled game five of The 2007 World Series with repeats of House (Viewers: #4, 5.82 million; A18-49: #4, 2.1/ 6) and K-Ville (Viewers: #4, 4.00 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 3). And the CW continues to deteriorate on Monday with sitcoms Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.50 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3), Aliens in America (Viewers: 2.11 million; A18-49: 0.8/ 2), Girlfriends (Viewers: 2.24 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 2) and The Game (Viewers: 2.40 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3). Considering the Monday 9:30 p.m. half hour has traditionally lost steam on the CW (and UPN before it), growth for The Game out of Girlfriends of 160,000 viewers and 10 percent among adults 18-49 is worth positively noting. As for Girlfriends, after eight seasons it is time to prepare for the final episode.
