While watching the news last night one of the commentators pointed out that both McCain and Bush were out on the campaign trail and were missing the hearings/discussion in Washington regarding what the bailout plan should entail...and would likely miss the vote that puts any plan into effect. I agree that the Friday debate would be a perfect forum for actually putting different viewpoints forth to the American public. That is the type of TV coverage that this situation needs. However, from McCain's perspective, what 'plan' is he supposed to back in the debate? Does he back the President's plan? Does he back the still forming plan of the other Republicans in Washington? Any debate is going to boil down to 'talking points' and the Republican party doesn't have theirs agreed upon yet. From McCain's perspective, it is more important that he get back to the Senate floor and start listening/talking to the 'debate' going on there. It is probably a good idea for Obama/Biden to do the same, though Obama does have a better set of talking points available on the subject already. If both presidential candidates go back to the Senate, the advantage goes to McCain since it will leave the presidential race's press coverage to Palin for an even longer period of time. The more McCain can keep the press coverage on Palin rather than on political issues, the better his chance to win.
Why are they doing a debate on Friday night? No one will be home to watch it (date night, high school football games, etc.). I'm looking forward to the Palin/Biden smackdown next week anyway..
Anyway, I do think Fringe gets a full season- it seems like just about all dramas are tanking so far, so that's a little advantage there- (NCIS being one exception-that show is like the utility player on a baseball team; they get good statistics and end up having a solid 10-year career but they aren't flashy so they get no press)
and 90210 got picked up for the full season a few days ago, so they will get 22 or 24 eps.
Well, Friday's debate was supposed to be on Foriegn Policy and National Security issues. But, I guess since the financial crises affects the whole world they would throw it in there.
It's pretty much a given that they would. Anyway, McCain doesn't know what he's talking about in that area either. Honestly, he's probably wondering why we even have to have any debates. Or an election. Don't people realize he was held prisoner in North Vietnam!? Just make him President already!
Wasn't McCain the one who wanted more debates? If your a cynic maybe he just thinks Palin will clean old Joe's clock first. As for whose supporters are more likely to vote, that is what makes this election so unpredictable. On one hand, I agree Obama has energized many who rarely, if ever, vote. On the other hand, tradition tells us that older registered voters are more likely to actually vote.
Anyone who tells you they know how this will turn out is just blowing smoke, IMO.

But it affects the entire population. It's because of the USA the wolrd is in the enviromental state that it's at. If McCain wins, we'll be looked at as being even dumber than they think we are and I can't blame them.

How is it all our fault that the world is in the environmental state it is? China has millions more people than we do and is spewing tons and tons of gunk into the air daily. It so bad there that the average lifespan of a police officer is in his or her 30s. We are not the only one affecting the world today.
When he thought it would help him, sure. But NOW he thinks the debates will hurt him. So he's calling a time out. Because he's losing.

This would be the same Palin who won't give press conferences, couldn't tell Gibson what the Bush Doctrine was, and tried to get CNN to just film her talking to world leaders without actually asking her what they talked about?

And a lot of them are switching to Obama now, according to recent polls.

Anybody who thinks Palin will clean Biden's clock is blowing a very specific type of smoke.

NBC: I also tuned into Law & Order: SVU. Again, not a big crime show viewer, but I found the show pretty stale, as someone else said. It's like 85% crime show, 15% material for Hargitay's yearly Emmy bid.
CW: 90210 - bomb. GG & OTH are outperforming it, and with the amount of promotion/buzz it received, that's inexcusable. Privileged is doomed, as well. It's amazing how after its premiere, we all thought Tuesdays would be one of the stronger nights for The CW, and now it's taken a back seat to the veterans on Monday night. I knew 90210 would drop, just didn't think it would be so quickly.
Um,
Lets all remember that Gossip Girls ratings sucked first season.

Well, don't you think China should pay some attention to what we think?
I assume you're not saying the choice of China's political representatives is none of our business. It's actually none of the average Chinese person's business either.
If Obama doesn't have a 7 or 8 point lead come November I'd say he loses this election just because there are probably a lot of people out there saying they'll vote for him but when it comes to pulling that lever- they'll back out on fear of race. Sounds pathetic but its happened before. I think even Obama said something to this effect not too long ago.
I really doubt Obama said THAT. But certainly other people have. They could be right, but then again, Obama's supporters may be getting undercounted in the polls. The voters who support him now are a lot more enthusiastic than the ones supporting McCain--which means they'll be more likely to show up and vote.
And Obama really understands the electoral college math--he can lose the popular vote, and still win the election. And this time, that would actually be a good thing.
But in any event, if McCain is going to keep pulling crap like this, maybe even some dyed-in-the-wool racists out there will realize it's Obama or BUST.
Obama's support has frequently been underestimated by the pollsters. So I guess that's the Reverse Bradley effect.
What I find amazing is that Democrats are way ahead in most of their races this year except for President. That alone says something for Obama. The Democrats would be way ahead in the Presidential race too, had they chosen the person who actually received the most votes. :P
I agree with you 100%, that's why i think the electoral system in US is a joke (trust me everyone on the planet jokes about it). Democracy means exactly this: the most voted wins.
But i'm sorry Obama IS the most voted, so he's clearly the right candidate. The bad think is that he's black. That alone takes 10% of the votes at least. That's the problem, the racism. Clearly no one has the courage to tackle it, not even Obama
