It seems like a good sign that you should tune in for the premiere of In the Motherhood next week. Consider it as an opportunity to break away from your AI addiction.

Why do people keep bringing up Kings. That show is dead and is never going to work.

I don't expect Southland to do any better than ER.NBC should test out Kings in that slot.

Was there a Greys Anatomy over run to make Practice's #'s hit double digits? I expect that to go down with the finals if that happened. Ugly Betty needs to be done. ABC should cancel it after next season. Give them closure time to wrap it all up.

I loved Hill Street Blues back in the day and those were good times on NBC Thursdays early Must See TV days with Cosby, Family Ties, Cheers, and a random comedy trying to make it but gets canceled quick leading into Hill Street Blues then L.A. Law.

I hope Southland succeeds and it should since it won't have any procedural to go against. CBS will be airing Harper's Island and I don't think its going to do any better than Swingtown.

If Southland succeeds then I want NBC to redo their whole Thursday Night lineup and get it to reminiscence the early days of Must See TV back in the early to mid 80s. Get some multi-camers going before Southland but with Jay coming next year that's going to mess everything up.

Ugly Betty, which is heading on a short hiatus, opened the evening for ABC with 7.55 million viewers (#3) and a fourth-place 2.1 rating/6 share among adults 18-49. Considering CBS’ dominant Survivor did not air, this is a losing performance.

Now Marc, I would love if instead of hiding out there, if you could please explain to me how Ugly Betty is a loser last night, while the CBS comedies on Wednesday, with virtually the same ratings with no competition were not losers. What am I missing?

I just don't really know about In the Motherhood. It looks the only single-cam ABC has had that's worth watching but I'm still iffy on it.

I'm more into watching Roommates this upcoming Monday on ABC Family and Surviving Suburbia in two weeks.

Grey's Anatomy... this week and last week were back to the early seasons' quality. I'm flabbergasted. And I'm really annoyed because if the writers and this show are still capable of making such great television... why did we have to suffer through so much of the crap of this season? All of a sudden the characters are acting like people, and behaving like the characters we fell in love with in 2005.

You're generalizing your own opinion.

Marc is correct that debuting the sitcoms against American Idol next week is going to really hurt them. On the other hand, without Survivor on, I will at least sample In the Motherhood.

Samantha Who? is going to fail there anyways but In the Motherhood has a chance as it should samplings for the first two weeks.

Same thing is going to happen to Surviving Suburbia's debut when it goes against the NCAA Basketball Championship Game and Rules of Engagement in that time period.

For In the Motherhood and Surviving Suburbia, I think were going to have to wait until after the second episode to really judge how both shows are doing in the ratings.

I might watch In the Motherhood, not sure though.

Samantha Who will have better results than In the Motherhood simply because it leads into Grey's Anatomy and it will receive pre-tune in from GA fans. In the Motherhood, unfortunately, will be doa.

I don't think SW will do any worse or better than Motherhood. It could build slightly but since Idol is on and its an elimination the 2nd half hour will always do better.
I'd be surprised if either show breaks 7 million however.

I agree with Marc, Southland actually looks decent. I don't recall the last NBC drama where the previews actually made me want to watch.

Ugly Betty used to be a hit during its first season and its fallen with those numbers.

Christine and Gary never got over 10 million viewers like UB did. Don't count the Men bumps because they didn't get those numbers on their own at least Christine since Gary never got a real original bump from Men.

If you fall from grace then 7.55 million and a 2.1 looks bad but if you're a show that's not been established yet with those numbers that's a positive sign.

Probably because its ratings are half what they used to be only about 2 years ago

Not if those pre-tune in fans watch American Idol. Which considering Grey's demo it's possible they do.

Do they still send those out? I thought you had to sign into their abcmedianet sit to view the preview.

Let's forget about AI next week for a sec and look at their regular ratings.

I think SW is very lead-in dependent so if In the Motherhood gets ratings similar to what Ugly Betty got last night it will probably do the same or a little worse. I think it will get some of that Grey's audience but not too much where it will get over 8 million viewers.

SW is very pathetic because its been out over a year now and its supposed to be one leading the hour with a new show trying to build out of its ratings. For SW to still be trying to steal the previous half-hour's ratings that just means this show is never going to work and without DWtS on a regular basis for the first time its going to get exposed big time for the real ratings player its not.

Is that a figure of speech? Because I was under the impression that ABC had changed the way they delivered the content, and it is all online for those with accounts for their content for the media site. They are no longer sending it out. There was a big row in the media about it last fall, and some media outlets even talked about boycotting ABC by not posting reviews of the returning Wednesday line-up.

Either way Steve's confidence about the single-cams might be dwindling since he getting back to traditional sitcoms.
