C2H was a very expensive show to produce, and the advertisers were not willing to pay the ad rates necessary to cover the show's costs because it not only had low 18-49 demo numbers but it also didn't appeal to the more affluent and desirable demo specific groups.
How was C2H more expensive than any other drama? What is your source for this statement. I'm not disagreeing, but I don't see proof to support the statement
I'm not implying that it was more expensive that any other drama. It was an expensive show for that timeslot, especially when you consider that it was produced by Bruckhiemer and the salaries that were being paid to Elliot and Elise. I don't have the figures for the exact costs, but I've read several articles (I believe there was one here on Mediaweek, so help me out here Marc), saying that CBS was losing money on the show.
Hello all...new here. Terrific site and saw this link on another board.
I am a Moonlight fan and it is actually the one I am most excited about. Well, this and The Big Bang Theory. So I am thrilled with ML numbers and I am sure CBS is as well. I keep seeing a comparison b/t the opening numbers for CTH and ML. They cannot actually be compared wrt theor premiers due to the fact (and correct me if I am mistaken) that CTH premiered on a Tuesday night and was there for several weeks before being moved to the Friday at 9 slot. ML premiered on a Friday and is staying there. Tuesday numbers are always much higher than Friday.
As I said before, I think it would do very well. It has niche appeal, kind of like GW and Las Vegas which is sitting in Friday slots. It would have to be promoted of course aggressively. I know some people on other boards didn't watch K-Ville on Monday because they could watch the Friday repeat and watch another show instead.
Looking at the winter schedule, it's scheduled as a Monday 9 PM show. They have New Amsterdam at Friday 9 PM which isn't getting good reviews. They could easily pull it and couple it with Bones at 8 PM. Or if they want to keep it there, switch out Bones and K-Ville. Honestly, I think most of the new shows premiering the second half of FOX's schedule is going to be gone so there's lots of holes to fill.

Fox's best performance there yet. 5th Grader remains a stable 8pm option but shouldn't be used on Fridays unless it is completely necessary. I actually think American Band, which Fox is promoting a lot may be competitive in the demo, but not so much in overall viewers.
I think a network should step up and put an original program on saturday night, when i get home around ten on saturdays i usually put on a movie, but i would be happy to flip it to a seriess, mabye that would be a good timeslot for some failing shows, like veronica mars, I dont care where they would of put that show, but wether it was still good. I know the production costs would be high, but the CW shoukd take a risk.

Welcome aboard botfish. I imagine CBS is pleased with Moonlight, given the retention out of Ghost Whisperer.

I agree that more networks should try to program on Saturdays. Even FOX would benefit from getting rid of their tired Cops/AMW lineup and put others in it's slot. I don't think the CW is in a position to expand their lineup. They are having trouble filling the spots they have now with decent performers. They have to work on fixing the problem spots before expanding further.

I think if it could pull almost all of the low rated amount it has on Monday right now it would be a success.

what about Tell Me You Love Me ??? I love that show, but some critics didnt like it and it wasnt recieved very well in posts, I really hope what you are saying is true, but I doubt it since it was getting less than 1 million viewers per week, and they cancelled john from cicinatti which was getting around 3 million +
Then how in hell did 30 rock not only get nominated, but also win since almost nobody watches it, anyways sorry about my last post, as I kept on reading, my previous question was answered
Um, John From Cincinnati was averaging just over a million. Premiere ratings were slightly better, but weekly it wasn't doing well at all. I think cost was a factor. JFC was supposed to be expensive with all the on-location shooting. TMYLM may get some less viewers, but it probably costs less. Besides, since ratings aren't really a factor for HBO (subscriptions are much more important) the difference of even half a million viewers probably isn't a huge factor in their decision. If nearly the same number of people cite "TMYLV" and "JFC" as part of the reason for having HBO then they'd renew the lower rated show that costs less.
Regarding 30 Rock. It is about the industry, and I'd wager a lot of industry people watch it. That's how it got emmy votes.
Maybe they will just ship KVille whole to Fridays to air originals and fill the slot with something else. FOX should have picked up Nurses.

Just giving you guys a heads up that HBO's Tell Me You Love Me is filmed in my hometown of Winnipeg, Man., Canada. Some scenes are filmed near where I live, and I've seen my appartment condo tower in the background several times.
