Prime-Time Ratings:
Sunday 10/14/07

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 17.66 million, ABC: 12.78, NBC: 8.65, Fox: 6.35, CW: 1.12

-Adults 18-49:
CBS: 5.0 rating/13 share, ABC: 4.6/12, NBC: 3.6/ 9, Fox: 3.0/ 8, CW: 0.4/ 1

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Football Overrun (CBS), 60 Minutes (CBS), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC), Desperate Housewives (ABC), Cold Case (CBS), Brothers & Sisters (ABC)

-Honorable Mention:
The Simpsons (Fox)

-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Football Night in America (NBC), CW Now, Online Nation (CW), Life is Wild (CW)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the Sunday troops in both total viewers and adults 18-49 on the heels of the Patriots vs. Cowboys football overrun. Next was ABC, followed by NBC, Fox and embarrassing the CW, which plunged to a record low rated Sunday. Since the football overrun bled into CBS’ regularly scheduled Sunday line-up through the 7:30 p.m. half-hour and pure program averages are not accurate, here are the results for the network by half hour instead of by program.

CBS/Sunday
7:00 p.m. Football - Viewers: 28.01 million (#1), A18-49: 10.4 rating/30 share (#1)
7:30 p.m. Football/60 Minutes - Viewers: 24.88 million (#1), A18-49: 8.3/23 (#1)
8:00 p.m. 60 Minutes – Viewers: 17.68 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/11 (#1)
8:30 p.m. 60 Minutes – Viewers: 17.21 million (#1), A18-49: 4.1/10 (#2)
9:00 p.m. 60 Minutes/Cold Case – Viewers: 15.88 million (#1), A18-49: 3.7/ 9 (#3)
9:30 p.m. Cold Case – Viewers: 13.61 million (#2), A18-49: 3.3/ 8 (#3)
10:00 p.m. Cold Case/Shark – Viewers: 13.13 million (#2), A18-49: 3.2/ 8 (#3)
10:30 p.m. Shark – Viewers: 10.87 million (#2), A18-49: 2.5/ 7 (#3)

The Saints vs. Seahawks match-up on NBC dipped to a season low 9.28 million viewers and 3.9/10 among adults 18-49 from 8:30-11 p.m. Lead-in Football Night in American was fourth both from 7-8 p.m. (Viewers: #3, 5.04 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.8/ 5) and in the 8 p.m. half-hour (Viewers: #4, 8.79 million; A18-49: #4, 3.5/ 9, which includes the beginning of the game).

ABC’s veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos was negatively impacted opposite CBS’ football overrun, with a below-average (and second-place) 7.71 million viewers and a 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49 from 7-8 p.m. That led into Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 12.18 million; A18-49: #1, 4.3/11), Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #1, 18.55 million; A18-49: #1, 7.3/17), and Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #1, 12.71 million; A18-49: #1, 4.8/13) from 8-11 p.m. Congratulations, Marc Cherry…that was the funniest episode of Desperate Housewives I have personally seen in two years.

Fox was also on par with recent levels, with the break-down as follows:

Fox/Sunday
7:00 p.m. King of the Hill (R)
Viewers: 3.51 million (#4), A18-49: 1.4/ 4 (#4)

7:30 p.m. The Simpsons (R)
Viewers: 5.00 million (#4), A18-49: 2.2/ 6 (#4)

8:00 p.m. The Simpsons (R)
Viewers: 8.83 million (#3), A18-49: 4.2/11 (#2)

8:30 p.m. King of the Hill
Viewers: 7.43 million (#4), A18-49: 3.5/ 9 (#4)

9:00 p.m. Family Guy (R)
Viewers: 7.09 million (#4), A18-49: 3.5/ 8 (#4)

9:30 p.m. American Dad
Viewers: 6.26 million (#4), A18-49: 3.1/ 7 (#4)

Last, and plunging to an historical Sunday low for the CW and former network the WB, was the CWs combination of CW Now (Viewers: 663,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 1), Online Nation (Viewers: 593,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 1), Life is Wild (Viewers: 1.04 million; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: 1.68 million; A18-49: 0.7/ 2). It’s a pity more viewers are not finding Life is Wild, which takes the traditional family drama and adds a new dimension by the on-location filming in South Africa. Before you close the door on it (and I had to label it a loser with ratings this low), keep in mind that it grew out of Online Nation by 447,000 viewers and 50 percent in the demo.

So people were writing The Simpsons off (for like the eleven billionth time), and now it once again dominates FOX's Sunday toon lineup, in total viewers and the demo.

I don't know whether the correct response is "D'oh!" or "Woo-hoo!"--but Matt Groening's is surely "EX-cellent!"

Wow, nice uptick for Desperate Housewives in what I agree was a great episode. Something like a million and 0.7 higher than last week's fast nat number. That ep may bring some people back long-term.

NBC was just unfortunate to end up with the game that nobody cared about. CBS not only got gigantic numbers out of Cowboys/Pats, but 60 Minutes got a huge boost in the demo leading out of it.

STANDINGS | Congrats to week 11 winner Douglas! | Winter/Spring 2010 Top 5 (thru 3/17):

Was Family Guy a rerun? My DVR thought it was, and therefore didn't tape it. If it was a new Family Guy, I think it's worth noting that King of the Hill had more viewers and tied it in the demo. It seems like KOTH is doing better this season than it did last. Am I right?

Wow, DH last night's episode is up 1.1 million viewers from last week. Seems like word of mouth is finally spreading. B&S is also up.

Looks like CBS may have achance at the Demo title for the week. At the very least, it will be Second.

Yes it is doing better because it has abetter time slot. Last season, it was either at 7 or 7:30pm. Didn't have the NICE Post-Simpsons slot.

Just going by the new episodes, King of the Hill is the best show in Fox's Sunday lineup. Good to see it's finally in a decent timeslot getting the ratings it deserves. Just imagine if Fox even attempted to promote the show...

And wouldn't CBS been more prudent to launch VL last night?

I didn't get to watch any of last night's Fox-toons, so I didn't know Family Guy was a repeat.

Was it a repeat the previous week as well?

Because last night The Simpsons got better ratings than Family Guy got last week.

Anybody think Family Guy will be doing that well when it gets to season 19?

Which I wouldn't bet against it doing, btw.
