Well, it looks like the Sunday fast nationals will be delayed, so here are the metered market (overnight) results to whet your appetite.

Sunday 4/15/07
Metered Market Ratings

Household Rating/Share
CBS 8.1/13
ABC 7.4/12
NBC 5.2/ 8
Fox 3.7/ 6
CW 1.5/ 2

----------

-Percent Change From the Comparable Year-Ago Evening (Sunday 4/16/06)
(The CW is compared to the WB’s combination of two repeat episodes of Reba, Charmed and a repeat of Pepper Dennis)
CBS: +27, Fox: +12, ABC and CW: -12 each, NBC: -27

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS took top-rated overnight honors on this third Sunday in April, with ABC second, NBC third, and the two-hour debut of Drive on Fox a complete bust. Last, of course, was The CW, which needs to start from scratch on Sunday again next season. Keep in mind that ABC is likely to dominate among adults 18-49 once the fast nationals are posted at PIFeedback.com.

The granddaddy of the newsmagazine genre, CBS’ 60 Minutes, opened the evening on a winning note in the overnights with an 8.9 rating/15 share from 7-8 p.m. Next was ABC veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos (5.0/ 8), which could still win the hour among adults 18-49 once the fast nationals are released, followed by the first hour of an expanded Dateline on NBC at a 4.4/ 8. Overall, Dateline averaged a 5.3/ 8 from 7-9 p.m.

Rounding off the 7 p.m. hour were two repeat episodes of Fox’s The Simpsons (avg. 3.4/ 6), and a repeat of The CW”s soon-to-conclude 7th Heaven at a 1.1/ 2.

In series-premiere news, the two-hour launch of Fox drama Drive was stuck in second gear, with a mere (and fourth-place) 3.8/ 6 from 8-10 p.m. Despite the massive promotional hype, Drive only built from week-ago repeats of The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy and American Dad (avg. 3.5/6 on April 8) by 9 percent. One year earlier, Fox’s combination of a repeat of The Simpsons, a repeat of Family Guy and two original episodes of The War at Home averaged a 4.0/ 7 in the overnights. Here is the half-hour breakdown for the disappointing Drive:

8:00 p.m. 4.0/ 6
8:30 p.m. 3.9/ 6
9:00 p.m. 3.6/ 5
9:30 p.m. 3.7/ 5

First in the 8 p.m. hour in the overnights was a repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC with a 6.6/10. Next was the second-half of NBC’s aforementioned Dateline (6.2/ 9), followed by CBS’ The Amazing Race: All-Stars (6.0/ 9 -- go Charla!), the first hour of Fox’s Drive (4.0/ 6), and an original installment of The CW’s 7th Heaven (2.1/ 3).

ABC’s Desperate Housewives had no trouble winning the 9 p.m. hour, with a 10.3/15. But compared to one year earlier (13.4/20 on April 16, 2006), that was a decline of a noticeable 23 percent. Could it be that viewers are tired of the monotonous Susan/Mike/Ian triangle? What is this…Joanie Loves Chachi?

Second in the overnights at 9 p.m. was CBS’ underrated Cold Case (8.2/12), followed by a repeat of NBC’s Deal or No Deal (5.6/ 8), the second hour of Fox’s aforementioned Drive (3.7/ 5), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model on The CW (1.4/ 2).

CBS moved into the overnight winner’s circle at 10 p.m., with Without a Trace at a 9.4/ 15 -- 15 percent above lead-in Cold Case. Next was ABC’s should-be Emmy nominated Brothers & Sisters (7.6/12) and NBC’s should-be canceled The Apprentice 6 (4.5/ 7), which dipped from the encore telecast of Deal or No Deal by 20 percent.

I'm shocked by Drive's numbers. Really schocked.

I'm surpried Drive did not do better. Although I did not watch it, I would have if my tv schedule was not full on Sunday already.

I'm shocked that anyone is shocked. I watched a bit of the first hour, and found it to be the most predictable hackneyed schlock I'd seen--well, since the fall 2006 premieres, but that's saying something these days.

Tim Minear makes lousy shows that get criminally overrated by a handful of critics and fans. Ditto Nathan Fillion. Minear is not a particularly great writer, Fillion is, I increasingly am forced to conclude, a downright horrible actor, who tries to make up for his total lack of charisma by gritting his teeth and clenching his cheeks, like he's suffering from the worst case of constipation since the invention of Ex-Lax.

I mean, the last time Minear and Fillion worked together, we got Firefly--anybody still dumb enough to think it's failure was mainly the network's fault?

This show was hugely promoted, and the timeslot was about as good as you could hope for. It's failure is due to the fact that 1)It's a dumb concept for a drama and 2)We already have The Amazing Race, and those people actually give more convincing performances--well, I assume so, anyway.

We still have The Sopranos for a few more weeks. Why bother with tripe like this? Sheesh, I'd rather just watch "Cleaver". Can't wait for the DVD.

I don't think it seemed all that unfimiliar. Let's not forget it was heavily promoted. The promos looked very good. Almost everyone was predicting at least 7-8 million viewers.
And not that it really matters now the pilot was very very good. And i'm saying it although i pretty much dislike action series (i think the last action series i watched was back in the 90s)

I'm a little slow sometimes but when they first started with the promos I thought it was a reality show. Then I just thought it seemed like a silly show, it really has to grab me in order to watch something new on Fox since they are so quick to to pull the plug.

Except that they had the beautiful 2-lane highway from Key West transformed into a 6-lane interstate through mountains and desert, I liked it. However, if they really wanted to pump the show, they should have started it in the Wednesday slot before American Idol and not against their base against "The Amazing Race".

Bad call from the Fox Programming exec.

"Criminally overrated"? Hehe, calm down it's just a TV show. You're not a professional critic are you? I've never seen this guys other shows (although I think he had something to do with Angel, which I did watch and was very good) but I thought the pilot was pretty good. Nothing amazing but something new. Although with those ratings it doesn't look like it will last past the 13 episodes it has ordered.

I think Fillion could do well if the scripts he got weren't so monotonous. I liked him in Firefly well enough, but I think that's also because of the dynamic of the cast. However, since then he hasn't branched out enough.
I would say the same for Sarah Michelle Gellar, for instance. She hasn't done anything as spectacular as Buffy since the show ended, and nothing on the level of her work in The Body. She'll do the Grudge and that's it.

If she chooses the right script and doesn't stay in a comfort zone, just as Fillion does, then better work will be produced.

As for Drive, I think it is purely an escapist hour, but not one that really captivated me or made me want to stay with it. A lot of that probably is fallout from FOX and the failure of serialized dramas this year. No surprise it is DOA.

How many more times does Bones need to be pre-empted this Winter/Spring? Sunday was as good as any other day, except Fridays and Saturdays.

Marc, we must not be watching the same show, because the extremely refreshing Edie/Carlos storyline and even Gabi and her new boyfriend are very enjoyable. And how about Mrs. McClusky and her newfound secret? This is miles ahead of last year and even if its a bit random, the Susan and Mike relationship helps hold the glue together for this show. I think Ian may have a dark secret of his own before this is over.

No, no, no, you don't get it, both worked with Joss Whedon, so they MUST be geniuses.

But against the Amazing Race? Not a good move. At least Fox could've gotten Nascar as a lead in instead of Simpsons repeats, which are nothing special.
