Amen to that! People are looking for something worthwhile to tune into. And with the price of gas, maybe people are staying home more. If regular TV can't do well in this economy, then it means it's product is bad. Networks should rethink their weekend programming.

That's why you want original programming. :P

I agree that people are looking for Friday TV options. Someone brought gas prices and it is a good thing to bring up. People are staying home this summer. People are having parties and get togethers at people's houses more with TVs on during the weekends. Fridays and Saturdays are becoming TV watching days more than ever. Networks need to aggressively program these days, not leave them to reruns, horrible shows, and filler. Looking over the schedules, people are quick to dismiss Crusoe on NBC, but I could see it becoming a cult following and viewing parties being centered around it. It might be a very smart Friday option for NBC.

Flashpoint is also a good fit for the CBS procedural and Numbers audience. As for it being a good show, in my opinion, it was like very other CBS procedural. Nothing special.

Flashpoint did well on Friday night. I thought I DVR'ed it, but I didn't. Luckily it is on again tonight, so I will tune in. Hopefully it is good, it seems like 8 million people did like it.

Considering the encouraging debut of "Flashpoint", I wonder if CBS will bring the series back during the regular season as a mid-season replacement.

According to The Futon Critic website, CBS ordered 13 episodes of "Flashpoint" during the writer's strike in the winter. However, if CBS were to air an original episode every week until the new fall series begin airing in mid-to-late September, only 9 or 10 episodes of "Flashpoint" will have aired. Any pre-emptions, such as airing reruns opposite the Beijing Olympics, will only decrease the number of episodes aired. That means CBS will have a handful of episodes left to air and nowhere to put them.

Since it's not originally a CTV show, I think it'd be great if they wanted to use it for US primetime during the summer. It does fit remarkebly well within the CBS brand, and the Olympics are not what they used to be.

What does that have to do with it being a CTV show?

And the Olympics are still what they were, last Summer Olympics still brought in 20-30 million each night, and NBC is very lucky to have that number at this moment. The good thing about the Olympics is everyone knows about them, so we don't need to rely 100% on NBC promoting it.

Sorry for the late post but was out of town:

FLASHPOINT - about what I expected, very well produced, visually interesting, and thought they managed to tell the story from several perspectives.

Beyond that, I'd have to see more to see if any interesting characters or themes emerge from this. Overall, very professional handling of delicate content. I was pretty certain it would do well, actually thought it might exceed these numbers.
