-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS opened the week on a winning note, with a first-place finish in the overnights, total viewers and adults 18-49 courtesy of two shows in particular – Two and a Half Men and CSI: Miami. Flipping The Class with How I Met Your Mother gave The Class a minor boost and full retention out of its new lead-in, while How I Met Your Mother performed similarly to year-ago 8 p.m. occupant The King of Queens. Take a look at How I Met Your Mother versus The King of Queens, followed by The Class:
Monday 8:00 p.m.
10/09/06 – How I Met Your Mother
Overnights: 6.4/10 (#2), Viewers: 9.73 million (#2), A18-49: 3.6/10 (#2)
10/10/05 – The King of Queens
Overnights: 7.1/10 (#2); Viewers: 10.50 million (#2), A18-49: 3.5/ 9 (#2)
Percent Change:
Overnights: -10; Viewers: - 7; A18-49: + 3
----------
Monday 8:30 p.m. – The Class
Overnights: 6.4/ 9 (#2), Viewers: 10.05 million (#2), A18-49: 3.7/ 9 (#2)
At 9 p.m., CBS’ Two and a Half Men was above average at a 11.0/16 in the overnights (#1), 17.12 million viewers (#1) and a 5.4/13 among adults 18-49 (#2). That led into The New Adventures of Old Christine at a respectable (albeit non-spectacular) 9.0/13 in the overnights (#2), 13.71 million viewers (#1) and a 4.3/10 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9:30 p.m. Retention for Old Christine (which is only worth watching because of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) out of Two and a Half Men could have been better, however, at 82 percent in the overnights, and 80 percent in both total viewers and among adults 18-49.
At 10 p.m., CBS’ CSI: Miami was the highest rated show of the evening at a healthy 12.3/20 in the overnights, 17.93 million viewers and a 5.9/15 among adults 18-49. As a reminder, total viewers and adults 18-49 from last night are based on the fast nationals. Any prior results are based on the final nationals.
NBC had another Monday of mixed news courtesy of its combination of Deal or No Deal, Heroes and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Deal or No Deal kicked off the evening with a dominant 9.8/15 in the overnights, 15.22 million viewers and a 4.4/12 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m.; leading into week three of Heroes at a solid 9.2/13 in the overnights (#2), 13.31 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 5.9/14 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m.. Heroes is not only the real deal, but NBC is already in the planning stages of a new version of The Bionic Woman next season. Unfortunately, the news remains bleak for NBC at 10 p.m. with week four of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip at a distant second-place 6.8/11 in the overnights, 8.76 million viewers and a 3.8/ 9 among adults 18-49. The once piece of good news for Studio 60: it beat ABC’s competing What About Brian. Keep reading.
ABC minus football remains a network on the downside on Monday. Wife Swap kicked-off with a typically bland (and third-place) 6.1/ 9 in the overnights, 7.74 million viewers and a 3.2/ 9 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m., followed by The Bachelor: Rome at an also modest (and third-place) 5.8/ 8 in the overnights, 7.98 million viewers and a 3.1/ 7 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Considering how far The Bachelor franchise has fallen in recent editions, was it really necessary to bring it back? In season-premiere news, year two of surprise returnee What About Brian opened with a last-place 5.1/ 8 in the overnights, 7.03 million viewers and a 3.0/ 8 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Retention for What About Brian out of The Bachelor: Rome, however, was positive at 88 percent in both the overnights and total viewers and 97 percent among adults 18-49.
Repeats of Fox dramas Prison Break (Overnights: 3.3/ 5; Viewers: 4.00 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 4) and Justice (Overnights: 2.9/ 4; Viewers: 3.64 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3) finished fourth in every half-hour. The CW, meanwhile, moved its comedies -- all repeats last night -- back to Monday after two abysmal Sunday airings. The Everybody Hates Chris second-run opened with a 2.3/ 4 in the overnights, 3.00 million viewers and a 1.2/ 3 among adults 18-49 At 8 p.m., which is similar to how repeats performed in its former Thursday 8 p.m. time period. That led into repeats of All of Us (Overnights: 1.9/ 3; Viewers: 2.55 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3), Girlfriends (Overnights: 2.0/ 3; Viewers: 2.47 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3) and The Game (Overnights: 1.8/ 3; Viewers: 2.20 million; A18-49: 0.9/ 2) from 8:30-10 p.m. Although The CW, no doubt, finished last in every half-hour, let’s save any judgment calls until original episodes of the comedies air next Monday.
