Given how well done last night's episodes were, I suspect this trend to continue and CBS will firmly have another comedy hour in place. (And eventually make the Winner's Circle.)
Given everyone's earlier predictions for CBS to be doomed here, this is nothing short of a very pleasant surprise.

But AI won't be in the 8PM timeslot the entire season. When the Live Shows begin with the top 12, the Wednesday results show will move to 9PM and Lie to me will go to 8PM. At least that's what FOX detailed when they announced the mid-season schedule.

Granted, this board is no microcosm, but a show getting 16mil viewers and no commentary on this board is kinda what Marc was referring to in calling some CBS shows underrated, buzz-wise.

I doubt last nights performance mattered, I'm sure ABC made their decision over a month ago when they pre-empted the show for two week in a row without scheduling it elsewhere, either behind DWTS on the Monday or Tuesday or even GA.
No, FOX has AI scheduled for 8:00 every week this year.

How about when they opted to show PD when all the other networks were showing a message from the next President of the United States?
Well, as I thought at the time, that might actually have hurt PD--reemphasized how shallow and out of touch with the TV audience it really is.
Honestly, when people would rather watch a paid political ad--and end up enjoying it more--isn't it well past time to pack it in?

First in the 8 p.m. hour was Fox’s always reliable Bones, with 10.72 million viewers and a 3.1 rating/9 share among adults 18-49. As a reminder, Bones will be moving to Thursday at 8 p.m. (into returning Hell’s Kitchen) in first quarter 2009. Next were CBS sitcoms The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: #2, 8.09 million; A18-49: #2, 2.5/ 7) and Gary Unmarried (Viewers: #2, 8.14 million; A18-49: #2, 2.7/ 7), which are quietly carving a comfortable niche for themselves in the hour. Worth noting for Gary Unmarried was a series-high performance (and growth out of Old Christine of eight percent among adults 18-49).
Bones had good numbers again. Christine and Gary did great but I do think they will get trash once AI comes back.

Also airing in the 8 p.m. hour was the aforementioned season-finale of America’s Next Top Model on the CW (Viewers: #5, 4.80 million; A18-49: #3, 2.3/ 6), NBC’s failing Knight Rider (Viewers: #3, 5.12 million; A18-49: #5, 1.5/ 4), and ABC’s waiting-to-be axed Pushing Daisies (Viewers: #4, 4.86 million; A18-49: #4, 1.7/ 5). From a ratings perspective, this was not the best season for Top Model.
Bye bye PD. How can NBC gave a full season order for KR?! Those numbers are awfull.
quote:
CBS moved into the winner’s circle at 9 p.m., care of Criminal Minds at a hefty 16.38 million viewers and a 4.3/11 among adults 18-49. Second was ABC’s Private Practice (Viewers: 7.14 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 6), which built from the second half of lead-in Pushing Daisies (Viewers: 4.51 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 4 at 8:30 p.m.) by 2.63 million viewers and 41 percent in the demo, and is wisely moving into the Thursday 10 p.m. hour (out of parent Grey’s Anatomy) in first quarter.
Also airing from 9-10 p.m. was a repeat of Fox’s House (Viewers: #3, 5.73 million; A18-49: #3, 2.1/ 5), NBC’s failing Life (Viewers: #4, 5.32 million; A18-49: #4, 1.7/ 4), which received a full season order despite the anemic ratings, and the CW’s lackluster Stylista (Viewers: #5, 2.16 million; A18-49: #5, 1.0/ 3).
Life didn't have any life in it last night, again why is this show getting a full season order? Oh yeah right NBC doesn't have anything better...
quote:
Episode No. 100 of CBS’ CSI: NY (time flies, doesn’t it?) won the 10 p.m. hour, with 13.99 million viewers and a 3.8/10 among adults 18-49. Next was NBC’s veteran Law & Order (Viewers: #2, 7.58 million; A18-49: #2, 2.1/ 6), which remains down year-to-year but did grow from the second half of lead-in Life by double-digits. And ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money, which has yet to be picked-up for the full season, capped off the time period with a last-place 5.63 million viewers and a 1.7/ 5 in the demo. Too bad more viewers have not discovered this addictive pleasure. Source: Nielsen Media Research data
Good rating number for CSI:NY, it also got an increased over last week of 27%.
Law & Order was pretty weak and so was DSM who with numbers like that they must be wishing the show was on NBC...
But, when you look at what The Office has been doing in just this season, its down about a million viewers, since the premiere, and has lost almost a full point in the demo.
Yes, Last weeks numbers are good, but in compairison to itself, its losing steam.

For the time periods these shows are in, the change of genre for the Net in the hour and just the starting poiint both shows began, an Honorable Mention is deserving.

On marC's Biased Site. NBC shows with the same demo numbers (in tougher timeslots) are labeled losers week after week.
Yet, the office with far superior ratings and being on the toughest timeslot on tv did not even get an honorable mention last week.
But just loking at the ratings, for the two comedies, the last two weeks, does show that when a bigger show is aired against them, viewers are not sticking with Old Christine and GU.
When going against a Special DWtS and Last weeks CMAs, the shows dropped to that 6 million viewer level, despite the gains they got before that.

Yes but this is a ratings forum and it should have been mention that actually CM was the dominant show last night in almost every key category, Viewers 16.4M, 18-49 4.3. Only with a 2.7 in the 18-34 did CM finish second to the 2.8 of ANTM source: http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/11/20/wednesday-americas...e-scores-for-cw/8499

90% of the shows lose viewers from the premiere, that is not the point. By that logic shows like CSI should not be winners considering their year-to-year erosion. Bones was down almost half a demo point from last week's airing, yet it was still a "winner".
Edit: If growth is a criteria then why is Chuck labeled as a loser week after week despite showing some growth and getting identical demos to old christine and gary
I think OC and GU are not must see TV for most people. They are shows that they will watch when nothing else really compelling is on. With that said, I think CBS has a real big decision to make. If they leave them there they will get killed by AI. If they move them, they will no longer be establishing Wednesday as the comedy hour. I really have no clue what they will do.

In her new blog post at Fancast, Dancing With The Stars pro fave Julianne Hough says she will not be on the next season of Dancing - and may be quitting the show for good.
"I won’t be on Dancing this spring season. I don’t know about the fall. Maybe, maybe not. We’ll see. I’m definitely going to focus on the music. My first album was a learning experience, and I can’t wait for the next one."
She happy about her Tuesday night performance of My Hallelujah Song. "I was excited it finally ran. As I wrote a few weeks ago when that was taped, I’ve sung in front of thousands of people, but I don’t think I've ever been as nervous as when I performed on the show in front of my peers and the producers."
She hanging around for the Dancing finale next week to help her brother Derek Hough with partner Brooke Burke and she will be presenting at the American Music Awards on Nov. 23. "Then packing up my clothes and shipping everything back to my place in Nashville."
