ABC: The new year cannot come soon enough for the network. Clearly not returning the Wednesday dramas after the writers strike or rerunning them during the summer was a recipe for disaster.

Rerunning PD and DSM would be the ULTIMATE recipe for disaster. Big Grin

The recipe for disaster, actually, is greenlighting horrid, pretentious, cringe-inducing TV shows, and ABC has been the Julia Child of that recipe lately.

A universe that doesn't extend beyond Wednesday night broadcast television, I imagine. Otherwise, meh...

On marC's Biased Site.
NBC shows with the same demo numbers (in tougher timeslots) are labeled losers week after week.

In fairness, "Knight Rider" had been doing better at the time. The show's demo number has just tanked over the last several weeks.

CSI: NY Rose almost 2.5 million viewers and a 0.8 demo rating from just last week.

It is also its Highest numbers since L&O joined the time slot and its best numbers in about a month.

that's generally because those shows are down significantly year to year (heroes) or only getting 6 to 7 million vieweres (my name is earl, kath and kim). OC and GU are getting some of the highest #s in that slot in years for cbs, and while not "hits" they are worthy of an honorable mention

Exactly Marc. Both have been do a steady rise in the ratings over the whole season. Only the little streatch of Stunt Programming against them hurt their numbers recently.

Having said that, these two do need to move nights (Sundays) and avoid AI come 2009

Don't you think CBS is trying establish Wednesday at 8:00 as the other hour of sitcoms ? If they move them they sort of defeat the purpose. I think it would be good for the shows to move, but I don't know if that is what the network has in mind.

All time slots are not equal and all anaysis is not the same.

For the time periods these shows are in, the change of genre for the Net in the hour and just the starting poiint both shows began, an Honorable Mention is deserving.

True, but if they fall right back to that 6 million viewer level and 2.0 demo, then what is being accomplished?

No, I think I saw that the Wednesday Edition will be at 8pm with Lie to Me at 9pm.

But, as we all know, AI usually ends up taking most of that night until about mid March, and with Sweeps not starting until march in 2009, FOX may find ways to have as much AI as possible in March.

Yet, the office with far superior ratings and being on the toughest timeslot on tv did not even get an honorable mention last week.

Over at Save Pushing Daisies, the whinefest begins in earnest--

http://pushingdaisies-tv.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2149

Okay. Rant function enabled.

ABC supported the hell out of this show. They promoted it like crazy. They were incredibly patient. They spent a fortune just buying it a few Emmy statues (albeit not the good ones).

The mistake was not the timeslot, the promotion, the scheduling, the failure to run (incredibly low-rated) repeats.

The mistake was putting the show on the air. The show itself is the mistake. Letting a handful of critics and kool-aid drinkers tell you what constitutes good TV is the mistake. Letting high concept and high style substitute for story and character is the biggest mistake of all.

Garbage show got garbage ratings. The End.

Smiler
