While it didn't break any records, how does a show that grows every half-hour, and ends up #1 in key demos get labeled a "loser" with "pretty bad numbers?"
If you don't like the show, fine -- it's not for everyone so go ahead and editorialize. But the numbers are what they are.

Week-to-week numbers: Viewers - 8.08M to 5.54M (-2.54M/31%) Adults 18-49 - 2.9/7 to 2.0/5 (-31%)
S03E02 vs. S04E02: Viewers - 8.33M to 5.54M (-2.79M/33%) Adults 18-49 - 3.7/8 to 2.0/5 (-46%)
Note: The second episode of season three aired on January 17, 2005.
A decline of more than 30% in just one week, and being off by nearly 50% in the demo from the comparable prior season number is most definitely an issue.
How is this comparisons valid? You're comparing an episode that aired in mid-winter during the regular tv seaon at a time with the highest HUT levels vrs an episode that aired on a holiday in late May with low HUT levels. The comparison you make doesn't make sense.

Fine then just look at the week-to-week numbers and ignore the other one.
The Season 3 number is there simply for comparison purposes.
A 30%+ drop in one week is an issue. If it stays at this level, ABC will likely be okay with its performance given the summer season, but if it continues to drop then that's obviously not good news.
We'll see what happens next week.

The majority of the drop was due to the holiday. In either case, I expected a drop of at least 15% just because DWTS was the lead-in last week.
Since when NBC is one of the the Big Three broadcasters?
If NBC backed down to two hours of shows a night like Fox, they would be doing much better than they normally do because they could eliminate the weak hour each night. If Fox aired 3 hours a night they would be much weaker because they would have to program weaker stuff to fill holes. Therefore, NBC remains in the big three.

I was thinking the same thing. Considering that was the 4th or 5th showing of that The Big Bang Theory episode last night it was pretty impressive for it to finish first in its time slot.
I'm new to this, and I was wondering if you guys could tell me when I could expect the first results for the cable ratings on Monday night (5/26) to start appearing online? Particularly E!'s 10-11pm programming?

Check back in a day or two. Numbers for cable shows are harder to come by so you'll have to search harder. They might be on The Futon Critic though.

According to this Futon Critic Link, the episode aired for the 3rd time last night.
