It won't
LOST probably won't gain viewers with Criminal Minds in reruns, but those reruns will help stem the loss of viewers from LOST, as the 'iffy viewers' will have a chance to become addicted again this season before there is TV competition to draw them away.

CBS was a strong performer the last couple of months with more firstrun programming than the other nets, but it looks like they are going to more reruns between now and sweeps than the other nets. It will be interesting to see if these stretches of reruns allow eyes to wander.

Lost was great, though I definitely feel like this season is going to be moving chess pieces a la LotR's The Two Towers leading to some serious amazement in season six a la Return of the King. Great to see Ana Lucia (in a hilariously ironic role that has Michelle Rodriguez warn against reckless driving and getting arrested) and Ms. Hawking in those final moments.

I'll ask the pros here since I love this forum...

I loved Lost last night, but am forgetting who Mrs. Hawking is. Can someone please refresh my memory? When was she seen before and in what context?

- 4.9 A18-49 (share not calculated)

These numbers will be much closer to the finals than the 13.19 million viewers and 5.2/13 A18-49 figure.
Thanks Travis. Those timeslot overruns really warp the ratings before finals (as well as making the half hour drops look huge). Lie To Me isn't off to a great start, but the real strength of the show won't be known until it spends a couple of weeks without the Idol lead-in. I could definitely see this show pulling 10 million viewers and a 3 in the demo, since it is taylor made for that procedural crowd.

Idolworthy FOX Far Out in Front in Week 18

After three nights of Week 18, 'Idol'-jumped FOX holds a significant lead over all the other nets in A18-49 with a hefty 6.33 average. ABC is strong in second with a 3.73 average, while CBS holds third with 3.07. NBC is fourth with 2.33, Univision fifth with 1.73, The CW is sixth with a 0.85, and MyNetworkTV is seventh with 0.41 (two nights).

In viewers, FOX is leading with an average of 16,710,000 viewers, while CBS is second, ABC third, NBC fourth, Univision fifth, The CW sixth and MyNetworkTV in seventh.

CBS and ABC are both showing big improvements over last season, while The CW and Univision are showing smaller year-over-year growth. FOX is down, but NBC is down quite dramatically.

Overall, Week 18 is even in A18-49 demo to Week 18 of last season, while viewership is up by 2%, both remarkable stats in this season where DVR erosion has been the norm.

Haha! I didn't even think of that. Funny. And I wasn't exactly sure who that woman WAS at the end. Apparently, I've forgotten. Or maybe she's never been on here before, which would explain it. But all the surrounding cues (music, especially) led me to believe that we're supposed to know here.

I didn't. LOL. It had no effect on me.

The season 3 episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes". Desmond first encountered her at her antique shop where he was buying a ring for Penny. Mrs. Hawking told him that he couldn't marry Penny and proceded to tell Desmond all about his life.

The chief complaint from many past viewers of Lost was that it was confusing and I myself, a huge fan of Lost -- found it SO confusing last night -- time travel is a bit hard to follow in general. I'm afraid it will lose more viewers if people watched last night's episode.

glad to see christine and gary are not too injured by Idol -- but I thought Idol was gonna move to 9P -- when does that happen?

also, everyone - Oscar nominations came out today.

Best picture
benjamin button 13 nods
slumdog millionaire 10 nods
frost/nixon 5 nods
milk 8 nods
the reader 5 nods

dark knight did not get nominated in the major categories but did manage 8 nominations.

SAG awards this sunday on TNT

As for the premiere, honestly one of the best ever! Action packed, revealing, nostalgic (Ana Lucia!) and hilarious!

I'm already itching to see next week's episode.

Mrs. Hawking was on in Desmond's flashback (not truly flashback) where he goes into buy Penny's ring and she tells him that he cannot because he is supposed to go to the island to push that damn button to save the world!

I watched 'Lie to Me' last night and found it interesting, though unoriginal. Based on the way the show was promo-ed, it looked to be a unique show. However, after about 20 minutes, I realized it is basically a CBS-style procedural.

I still like it, but it's not what I expected. I feel cheated by FOX.

ABC Entertainment, Studios Merging
By Josef Adalian

ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios are merging into a single unit to be headed by Steve McPherson.

Anne Sweeney, president of the Disney-ABC Television Group, announced the expected decision Thursday morning at a meeting of ABC and ABC Studios employees.

Mr. McPherson will become president of the newly titled ABC Entertainment Group. Mark Pedowitz, who has a successful four-year run as head of ABC Studios, will now serve as a senior advisor to Ms. Sweeney, where he will help her on a broad range of business, emerging media and labor issues.

“The landscape of our business, and an opportunity to coalesce the creative process dictated this change in structure," Ms. Sweeney said. "By operating these units in a coordinated fashion, we’ll be able to present the industry with a unified, cohesive creative vision for ABC programming, which will serve us well as we move forward.”

Ms. Sweeney praised both Mr. McPherson and Mr. Pedowitz.

“Thanks to the quality of leadership and professional excellence exhibited by both Steve and Mark, we are able to implement this change and ensure that a smooth integration occurs," she said. "Mark’s years of experience on both the business and creative sides of the equation make him the perfect person to have in a key advisory position, especially with the multitude and complexity of the issues facing our industry today. And there is no one more passionate about the creative process, with as much proven business acumen, as Steve. This combination is why I’m so excited about this new management structure, and what it means for the future of the Disney-ABC Television Group.”

ABC said the new group's "primary mandate will be to develop and produce compelling programming for broadcast on ABC. However, when appropriate, the studio will look for outside opportunities."

In other words, ABC will still use its roster to develop programming for outside networks&meash;but it won't be its chief goal.

If I am not mistaken, there are 17 weeks to go before the end of the season and Criminal Minds aired its 13 episodes of a 26 episodes order.
So that leave 4 weeks with reruns. Not much reruns to go.

While 11M viewers is not bad by any means, I don't think Lost is going to gain any new viewers as the weeks progress. It will probably stabilize at around 10M viewers with a small possibility of dropping to 9M.

As for Lie to Me. I'm not sure what to make of it. Yeah the numbers are really inflated, but I think I know what FOX is trying to do. Remember when House debuted? I think it only averaged around 7-8M viewers and was almost considered a bust. Then, FOX moved it after Idol and it took off. I think FOX is just hoping that some of the Idol audience will stay with it week to week to keep it over 10M viewers. Without Idol, I think Lie to Me would not even have a chance to get an audience.

Here is my prediction: Mrs. Hawking is connected in some way to Charles Widmore.

I think Mrs. hawking could possibly be Faraday's mom. Don't think she's connected to Widmore anymore than Ben is, seeing how they are adversaries.
