With last year being an election year, weren't ratings up for pretty much every newscast and news outlet? This year, with no elections, the news ratings will likely be down across the board.

I wonder how Gary Unmarried will do with Couric as a lead-in.

To take full benefit of this, CBS should schedule the pre-empted 'Old Christine' episode for next Wednesday at 6:30 pm so that the 'CBS Evening News' viewers can see what their missing...would it be impossible for Miss Couric to film a little cameo that could be inserted into the episode? (or perhaps a quickie end-credit scene where Christine is watching the 'CBS Evening News' with her son)

This is your most brilliant idea yet Dumont. At the end of Miss Couric's broadcast, she can plop onto the newsroom couch with a bucket of popcorn, gather up all her colleagues in the newsroom (the younger and prettier ones get preference) and start to watch Gary UnMarried.

What do CBS think? I don't think it will improve
the night ratings. Not sure about Gary but Criminal Minds and CSI:NY will be reruns so the ratings will be down and with this move the ratings will go down even more.

CBS isn't doing this to boost primetime ratings, they are doing this to try and boost ratings for their newscast.

Me personally, I think there is a big enough pool of people for all shows to do well but yes, genre vs. genre usually spells out diminished ratings for both shows. I don't think Life on Mars will impact CSI: NY and L&O too much at first because it is a different genre (same type of format though right?) technically speaking but that's a stretch. With CSI: NY in repeats for a few weeks, it will be interesting to see if LOM can capitalize on Lost's lead in more so than Grey's and L&O can strengthen its hold on the procedural audience.

I agree a lot with you TV-Fanatic, there is definitely a big enough pool out their for each show to pick up a decent amount of viewers. The genre vs genre thing usually does spell doom for the shows. CBS shows are still very stronger where they can still come in first place and do well in reruns. L&O has shown strength against the CBS procedurals and go way up when there's no competition.

LOM is a big question mark, but it will have an easier start without having to deal with the NY powerhouse for the first few weeks. LOM's ratings will depend more on holding Lost's audience like you said than beating L&O or NY.

I have a strange feeling NY will still win the hour even though its in repeat mode.

Leverage on TNT got 2.7 million viewers on Tuesday January 13, 2009

Thanks for having that in your signature Blue Lick! Smiler
Anyone have the numbers for the most recent episode on 1/20/09 at 10pm?

Those are pretty decent numbers for Leverage when you consider that Raising the Bar flopped after it was forced to survive on its own. I like Leverage too, its probably coming back for a second season.

No problem Yankeesjr., unless someone else has the January 20th ratings posted before I do, I will get them next week when the finals are released, but I will post their numbers the rest of the season in my sig.

Those are very decent numbers. Leverage seems to be holding its own core audience every week and that's not a very easy timeslot for a show like that. TNT has to be happy b/c Leverage never got that Closer lead-in and its probably their best all-time original performer so far when not having The Closer as a lead-in.

A lot of good ratings last night. CSI: is down, but not as down as I would've expected without Grissom. Looks like this show is going to still be a huge ratings player. I'll talk about it more in the Thursday ratings thread, but here goes the overnight results by household from the kind people over at zap2it.com/tv.

TV Ratings: 'CSI,' 'Grey's' Share Thursday Spoils
'Bones' holds up pretty well on its new night

CBS and ABC took their usual spots atop Thursday's ratings, while FOX's "Bones" improved FOX's lot on its new night.

CBS led the night's overall race with an 8.0 rating/13 share. ABC finished second at 7.0/11. FOX, 5.4/8, came in third, a point ahead of NBC, 4.4/7. The CW trailed with a 2.0/3.

ABC grabbed the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 3.9 rating. CBS took second at 3.3, just ahead of NBC, 3.1. FOX scored a 2.7 for fourth, and The CW pulled down a 1.4.

The first of two "Bones" episodes won the 8 p.m. hour for FOX with a 6.1/10. An "NCIS" rerun drew a 5.6/9 for CBS, beating the 5.1/8 for "Ugly Betty" on ABC. "My Name Is Earl" and "Kath & Kim" put NBC in fourth. "Smallville" delivered a 2.3/4 for The CW.

CBS moved in front at 9 p.m. thanks to "CSI," 10.5/16. "Grey's Anatomy" posted a 9.4/14 for ABC. A second "Bones" (4.7/7) was third in households for FOX, but NBC had a few more viewers with "The Office," 5.0/8, and "30 Rock," 3.9/6. "Supernatural" finished out the night for The CW.

"Eleventh Hour," 7.9/13, kept CBS on top at 10 p.m. "Private Practice" scored a 6.5/11 for ABC (and won the hour among adults 18-49), beating the 5.1/9 for "ER" on NBC.

NBC improved off of 30 Rock big time. Looks like NBC might need antoher medical drama next season.

FOX's Bones dominated at 8pm, but too much competition there at 9pm. Grey's went back up too.

Eleventh Hour is improving its retention hold out of CSI: LV.
