-Yesterday’s Winners: Dancing With the Stars (ABC), Two and a Half Men R (CBS)
-Fading Fast: Heroes (NBC)
-No Home Run This Year: The ongoing World Series on Fox
-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Chuck (NBC), Samantha Who? (ABC), My Own Worst Enemy (NBC), Boston Legal (ABC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: ABC opened the week on a typically winning note, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. But all is not perfect on ABC Monday. A 90-minute edition of Dancing With the Stars kicked-off the evening with a rock-solid 18.79 million viewers and a 4.2 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9:30 p.m., building in every half-hour as follows:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 17.30 million (#1), A18-49: 3.8/10 (#1) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 18.73 million (#1), A18-49: 4.1/10 (#1) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 20.33 million (#1), A18-49: 4.6/11 (#1)
But lead-out Samantha Who? dipped to 11.45 million viewers (#2) and a third-place 3.0/ 7 among adults 18-49 at 9:30 p.m. While no one expects Samantha Who? to hold its Dancing With the Stars lead-in, retention out of the last half-hour was disappointing at 56 percent in total viewers and 65 percent among adults 18-49. Soon-to-conclude Boston Legal capped off the evening for ABC with 9.10 million viewers (#3) and a 2.3/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#3t) from 10-11 p.m.
As for Dancing With the Stars, Julianne Hough will be temporarily exiting the dance competition due to surgery today to remove her appendix (as a result of endometriosis). Partner Cody Linley will be paired with Edyta Sliwinska (Mr. TV’s favorite!) until she returns. In terms of who should be leaving tonight, if it is not Cloris Leachman we can officially refer to her as the “Sanjaya” of Dancing With the Stars.
Since ratings for any live sporting event are always approximate, let’s just say that game five of The World Series on Fox (Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bat) will average in the vicinity of what the nightly average for the network is above. And, no, that is not a positive by any means.
CBS ducked behind baseball with a night of repeats. The Big Bang Theory encore opened with 8.00 million viewers and a 3.1/ 8 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. (#2, and certainly not bad considering this was a repeat), followed by How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #3, 7.33 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.0/ 7), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 11.72 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/ 9), a Monday airing of Gary Unmarried (Viewers: #3, 8.59 million; A18-49: #4, 2.9/ 7) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #2, 10.41 million; A18-49: #2, 3.0/ 7). Retention for Gary Unmarried out of Two and a Half Men of 73 percent in total viewers and 76 percent among adults 18-49 was better than Worst Week out of Two and a Half Men one week earlier (Viewers: 68 percent; A18-49: 63 percent on Oct. 20). Considering how well Gary Unmarried works out of The New Adventures of Old Christine on Wednesday, my suggestion is to leave well enough alone (and give Gary a full season’s worth of episodes to further prove itself).
Over at NBC, the Monday news remains disappointing. Chuck finished fourth from 8-9 p.m., with 6.48 million viewers and a 2.5/ 6 among adults 18-49, followed by fading Heroes (Viewers: #4, 8.15 million; A18-49: #1t, 3.8/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and a series-low My Own Worst Enemy (#4: 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m.). Take a look at the three-week track for My Own Worst Enemy (and keep in mind that this is similar to year-ago failed occupant Journeyman).
One year earlier, Heroes averaged 10.51 million viewers and a 4.9/11 in the demo.
The CW’s combination of Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 3.02 million; A18-49: #5, 1.6/ 4) and the compatible One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 3.14 million; A18-49: #5, 1.6/ 4) capped off the evening at typically positive levels. And worth noting for the CW was a first-place finish overall for the evening among women 18-34 (3.6/ 9) and females 12-34 (3.3/ 9).

The two million viewers that Heroes supposedly lost are probably watching the show on DVR, on NBC's home site or on Hulu.
It is disheartening to see so many media people jumping on the "let's trash Heroes" bandwagon. The show is the best it's been since season 1. It is unreasonable to expect a show to be as popular in it's 3rd year as it was in its first year. Still, the show is very enjoyable and it's sad to see people bashing it just so they have something to write. Shame on you, Entertainment Weekly!!
It looks like MY OWN WORST ENEMY pretty much can't be salvaged....It would appear NBC's Monday at 10PM is officially the NBC death slot.
Its painful to see SAMANTHA WHO in the Losers list. The dialogue is so snappily written and the cast fires on all cylenders-except the father...they need to recast him with the guy who played J. Peterman on SEINFELD or someone better than the current actor.
And my thoughts on EX LIST cancellation are that you have to give CBS credit for trying something other than a procedural...but ROMANTIC COMEDIES...do not a series make unless you throw in some other element like MOONLIGHTING did with the detective end of it.
What a bad night for Chuck. It actually lost viewers from last week while going up against BBT/HIMYM repeats. Almost 1.5 million viewers chose to watch a BBT/HIMYM repeats over a new Chuck. I bet Chuck drops even more next week with new BBT/HIMYM episodes. I am sorry to the many Chuck fans here, but if this show cannot do better than that against sitcom repeats then NBC should move it out of the time slot.
To each their own. I think Heroes is, by far, the worst it's ever been. And all of this DVR talk just makes me think that people would rather watch a repeat of 2 1/2 men over a new Heroes.
Also, I'd just like to point out that Chuck got SLAYED by CBS comedy repeats. Pathetic.

Not bad for a 7th or 8th airing.
Nice to get Gary some sampling, but it's too bad it won't be able to capitalize on it with a new episode two days later, as would be the case most weeks.
MOWE actually kind of reminds me of Journeyman creatively, but I liked Journeyman a lot better. MOWE has a weaker Heroes for a lead-in, so it probably sticks around for a little while, but there doesn't seem to be a long-term future there.

Chuck lost 400,000 viewers and .2 demo against CBS sitcom repeats. I think that is terrible. If it can't pick up against repeats then when is it going to pick up.

Originally posted by Obveeus: ABC: Samantha Who ticked up in the ratings, likely off the uptick from DwtS.
CBS: Already in rerun season here, but Gary Unmarried got some good exposure in the one-off timeslot.
NBC: Chuck held ok, but Heroes and My Own Worst Enemy continue to drift downward. NBC should scrap MOWE and bring in Medium.
FOX: rain and general sports data variances make it hard to claim anything definitive.
CW: still hanging on by a thread above 3million. The up-blip for OTH in the demo is gone again...even if Nielsen never figured out 'why' it occurred.
Tonight: Rita Rocks on Lifetime at 8:30pm (for those interested in a 'family sitcom').
