-Honorable Mention:
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown R (ABC), The Biggest Loser (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers:
Privileged (CW), Eli Stone (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another Tuesday of mixed leadership, with CBS the most-watched network and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49. CBS’ rock-solid NCIS opened the evening first in the 8 p.m. hour in total viewers, while Fox’s House was No. 1 among adults 18-49. Take a look:

Tuesday 8 p.m.
NCIS (CBS)
Viewers: 17.08 million (#1), A18-49: 3.4/ 9 (#2t)

House (Fox)
Viewers: 13.15 million (#2), A18-49: 5.3/14 (#1)

Also in the 8 p.m. hour was annual holiday special It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on ABC (Viewers: #3, 10.43 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.4/ 9), the first half of NBC’s two-hour The Biggest Loser (Viewers: #4, 7.53 million; A18-49: #4, 2.7/ 7) and 90210 on the CW (Viewers: #5, 3.20 million; A18-49: #5, 1.6/ 4). One year earlier, It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown averaged 11.40 million viewers and a 3.8/11 in the demo on Oct. 30, 2007.

Leadership was also mixed in the 9 p.m. hour, this time between ABC’s Dancing With the Stars and CBS’ The Mentalist. Take a look:

Tuesday 9 p.m.
Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
Viewers: 17.00 million (#1), A18-49: 3.8/ 9 (#1t)

The Mentalist (CBS)
Viewers: 16.11 million (#2), A18-49: 3.8/ 9 (#1t)

Needless to say, The Mentalist is the freshman hit of the season.

Rounding off the 9-10 p.m. time period was the second half of NBC’s The Biggest Loser (Viewers: #3, 8.53 million; A18-49: #3, 3.5/ 9), which deserves kudos for building in each half hour, a repeat of Fox’s Fringe (Viewers: #4, 5.95 million; A18-49: #4, 2.5/ 6) and the CW’s Privileged (Viewers: #5, 2.16 million; A18-49: #5, 1.1/ 3), which actually picked up some steam. Overall, The Biggest Loser averaged a very respectable 8.03 million viewers and a 3.1/ 8 in the demo from 8-10 p.m.

As for Dancing With the Stars, the just departed Cloris Leachman deserves a great deal of credit for competing. Too bad, though, that no one from the old MTM gang stopped by to cheer her on.

CBS’ relocated Without a Trace won the 10 p.m. hour in total viewers, with 12.14 million and is a notable improvement over year-ago occupant Cane. But it finished second among adults 18-49, with a 2.9/ 8 in the demo. Just the opposite was NBC’s veteran Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 9.20 million; A18-49: #2, 3.4/ 9), with ABC’s Eli Stone third at 7.67 million viewers and a 2.0/ 5 among adults 18-49. Retention for Eli Stone out of the second half of lead-in Dancing With the Stars (Viewers: 17.37 million; A18-49: 3.9/ 9) was just 44 percent in total viewers and 51 percent in the demo.

Fringe may just be a 'timeslot hit', and not a big one at that--but its demo rating for a repeat is still higher than what ES, PD, or SCC can manage in first-run.

And only a 3.8 in the demo for The Mentalist?

Hits used to be made of sterner stuff than this.

Great numbers and demos for TM and easily the #1 new hit show for 2008 !!
Not overlooking the popularity of Fringe by any means but while Fringe may be most hyped TM is by far the surprise hit of 2008 !!
It seems TM is doing in the Tuesday night timeslot and accomplishing what TU did not !
Quite an accomplishment :-)

Maybe they are like the STAR TREK gang who really don'tget along in real life (see the recent Shatner v. Takei dust up).

Once the stunt casting stopped for ES, the numbers dropped off. There was another overrun, so with that factored in ES will be below 7 million and 2 in the demo. It's another show ABC shouldn't have brought back. It's really bad when a repeat of Charlie Brown does better than most of their comedies and dramas. ABC needs to step up development and start getting the numbers up.

Privileged isn't making it on CW. Time to look for replacements.

Fringe doesn't repeat well at all. However, House had a nice pickup from last week.

WAT is still really old skewing. NCIS is the ultimate in old skewing shows. The Mentalist has a chance of beating out DWTS in both demos and viewership in the weeks ahead. If that's the case, it would be a huge loss for ABC.

While most of NBC's shows are having slight upticks in the ratings, L&O: SVU went down slightly. It will be interesting to see how L&O does. My guess is it beats L&O: SVU in viewership.

I'm truly impressed by The Mentalist. Now it's building in demos from NCIS, and by a clear margin. Impressive indeed

ES is doing horrible, i enjoy the show but the numbers aren't there at all

90210 beats GG and OTH after a 2 week break. Didn't expect it. Priveleged it's still weak, very weak, but somehow i think CW might give it a full season.

Fringe is a very expensive disaster. FOX should move House back to 9pm as fast as possible, even if it means paying Laurie whatever price he's asking for the next few seasons.

Great episode of House, by the way.

But doesn't that really say more about the state of network TV in 2008 than it does about TM? Wink

It's got more than enough viewers overall to make up for the so-so demo. A hit it is, but only by this season's paltry standards. It may or may not hold up, but I'll never watch it--bores me to tears. Watched Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes on a PBS channel instead--now that's a detective.

Oh really? Can you show me any proof of how expensive it is to produce? Big Grin

If SCC or PD got a 2.5 in the demo for a first-run ep, you'd be delirious with joy.

Hater.

You may have guessed Friday or Saturday night, but Tuesday is officially OLD PEOPLE NIGHT on TV.

ABC: Eli Stone should not have been renewed. Maybe they should bring Peanuts to TV as a weekly series?
CBS: Great viewer numbers.
NBC: Biggest Loser pulls good demo numbers.
FOX: House is still the most powerful demo show of the night even with the last minute scheduling.
CW: Don't look now, but 90210 is ticking a bit above both those Monday shows.

Fringe is no where close to being a Disaster.

Don't base last night's REPEAT episode ratings as what it can/will do on regular nights. It easily grabs a consistan 9-10 million viewers and usually scores around a 4.0 in the demo.

if you want Disasters.... Look at ABC and NBC.

To advertisers, those old people have about the same value as when your dog or cat watches TV.

I will now duck and run as all the old people in denial about their lack of value swarm about shaking their canes and trying to prove that the money they have in 3-year CDs proves that they have more disposable income that the whipersnappers at the mall. Wink

Eli Stone numbers are a disaster. Last year it was quite clear that it would've never been a hit. ABC being for most part of the schedule a mess, this is the biggest flop.

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

If you find my english is bad, it's because I'm italian. :-)
