Did not watch Heroes this time, but the ratings are still going down...sub 10 million now.
Nbc is really having some hard time. Red Face

PRISON BREAK is an excellent show and I hope the female spin off comes to fruition.

HEROES...what they should have done was ignor the whole HEROES ORIGINS idea and create a spin off and relocated some of the characters to the second show as I believe a big complaint this season is two many new characters that there is not enough room for all the storylines and you wind up with MIA characters or short, short scenes before hopscotching to the next short scene ect...

You`re right, Prison break is excellent
As for Heroes Spin off...the project is delayed indefinitely.

Maybe it would have done better if they didn't confine JOURNEYMAN's travels to the recent past. A couple episode of him showing up in the distant past say for the Gold Rush of 49 or something might have appealed to the HEROES sci fi audience. Part of the fun of time travel shows is seeing differnt periods...having him go to the 1990's isn't too exciting and the audience caught on. I've got 3 episodes now that I haven't watched.

Hey maybe they could have had Journeyman trying to change the past by reliving the same day, over and over again, until he gets it right.

Okay, I know it sounds like Daybreak, but then again, both shows do have Moon Bloodgood.

Face it, this whole concept is a non-starter. It's been tried repeatedly (remember "Seven Days"?) and it's NEVER worked.

If you're going to do a show about time travel, don't limit it to some stupid concept about undoing past mistakes. Omar Khayam had it right the first time--

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it

Yes they do and ABC's online player tops all the other networks online players in quality and options.

You're damn straight. I recorded it last night not knowing that it was going to be screwed up the much. Now I read that it didn't start till 9;45?! So I must have only half the episode.
Does ABC offer an online version?

How many seasons did Quantum Leap have? I'm sure that one worked very well.

I'm expecting the strike to last awhile which would mean that they wouldn't be able to have a back nine ordered. Would they be canceled as soon as the net's burn off the episodes that have been produced?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but those shows wouldn't have the back nine ordered without a strike. With the strike, they're all probably lucky enough to not be cancelled before the nets burn off all the episodes already produced.

As for bad-buzzworthy shows like "Swingtown," which had just started production and barely has one whole episode in the can, what the strike means, is probable cancellation.

"Better Off Ted," Wednesdays at some time or another at some point or another in the near future. Because we can't all live in mansions and not ever work like the people on "Modern Family."

Completely different concept and approach--not saying time travel can never work in a series. Honestly, that was done mainly in a comic vein--Quantum Leap rarely took itself very seriously. And while the time period he could leap around in was limited, he could be a whole variety of people in a whole variety of places and situations. And rarely did his adventures last more than one episode.

It was high concept, but it was also very episodic and they had two characters people cared about, who stayed the same no matter what.

And even so, not exactly a huge hit.

There were 97 episodes spread over five seasons (March of 1989 to May of 1993).

Yes, and the ratings were often decent, never huge. It had a devoted fanbase--but not a major ratings hit by the standards of the time. In fact, it was nearly canceled for low ratings in the third season, and was revived (wait for it) by a determined letter-writing campaign. Yeah, one of THOSE shows. Roll Eyes

And again, it bears only the most superficial resemblance to Journeyman, in concept, style, and general approach.

Anybody wants to avoid Journeyman getting canceled, here's my advice--go back in time and stop its creator from pitching it.

Talking about the strike and reality shows coming into production, according to Futon Critic NBC has coming in the spring a show called "My Dad is Better than Your Dad". Now who in their right mind is actually going to watch that? It's almost as bad as "When Women Rule the World." They should just come up with a show called when rational TV viewers turn off the TV.

Swingtown has bad buzz too? I thought it was fine. Another Viva Laughlin? I wonder if people will ever see the episodes of that show that went unaired. I frankly would love to see them.

Hit reality shows are as hard to create as hit scripted shows. Maybe harder. Honestly, how many really big reality hits have there been? Millionaire, Weakest Link, Home Makeover, Survivor, Idol, DWTS, maybe The Bachelor for a short time--haven't even used up all my fingers.

Of course they cost less to make on average, so a moderate ratings performer can hang on for years--but even the biggest hits repeat badly, and it's much harder to make any money off syndication and DVD.

And the more of them there are, the more bored people get with them.

There has ALWAYS been 'reality' television, not dependent on scripts--Candid Camera, primetime quiz shows, Ed Sullivan--okay, some of that was pretty contrived, but not scripted in the true sense. Some of the quiz shows were fixed, but that's not the same thing.

Point is, the networks have never been able to do without writers.

Writers did without networks for thousands of years.

I agree that some reality shows are needed and some actually are very good. The comment was more to the extent that the ideas that the networks are coming up with are terrible. Even the title of the show is uninspiring and quite frankly pointless. I find it noteworthy that the worst reality show ideas are coming from NBC, home of the failed fall show schedule.
