-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC and CBS shared bragging rights on Monday, with the home of Dancing With the Stars the most-watched network and CBS first among adults 18-49. The CW dominated among target women 18-34 and females 12-34.

A 90-minute edition of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars took center stage, of course, with 17.66 million viewers and a 4.0/10 among adults 18-49 from 8-9:30 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m. - Viewers: 16.35 million (#1), A18-49: 3.7/10 (#1)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 18.35 million (#1), A18-49: 4.1/10 (#1)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 18.29 million (#1), A18-49: 4.2/10 (#2)

Although Rocco DiSpirito is certain to be exiting tonight, personally I have had just about enough of goofy Cloris Leachman. Haven’t you? All I can say is…”Phyllis…it sure isn’t you!!!”

Dancing With the Stars led into the second season-premiere of Samantha Who? (Viewers: #1, 11.70 million; A18-49: #3, 3.1/ 7), followed by the final season of tired Boston Legal at 8.18 million viewers (#2) and a fourth-place 2.1/ 8 among adults 18-49. While Samantha Who? was the most-watched show at 9:30 p.m., retention out of the last half-hour of Dancing With the Stars was just 64 percent in total viewers and 74 percent among adults 18-49. And one year earlier, the Christina Applegate sitcom opened with a heftier 14.42 million viewers and a 4.5/10 among adults 18-49 (on Oct. 15, 2007).

Over at CBS, the weak link remains freshman sitcom Worst Week, which dipped by 4.79 million viewers and 38 percent among adults 18-49 out of Two and a Half Men this week (but did get a minor boost from one week earlier by not facing Dancing With the Stars). Both The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother deserve accolades, meanwhile, for the continued strength among adults 18-49.

Monday
8:00 p.m. The Big Bang Theory – Viewers: 9.36 million (#2), A18-49: 3.6/10 (#2)
8:30 p.m. How I Met Your Mother – Viewers: 9.14 million (#2), A18-49: 3.8/10 (#2)
9:00 p.m. Two and a Half Men – Viewers: 14.57 million (#2), A18-49: 5.3/12 (#1)
9:30 p.m. Worst Week – Viewers: 9.78 million (#2), A18-49: 3.3/ 8 (#2)
10:00 p.m. CSI: Miami – Viewers: 13.00 million (#1), A18-49: 3.9/10 (#1)

The biggest surprise was a 21 percent dip for CSI: Miami from the comparable year-ago evening (Viewers: 15.59 million; A18-49: 4.8/12). on Oct. 15, 2007).

In series-premiere news, NBC drama My Own Worst Enemy got off to a sluggish start, with 7.30 million viewers and a 3.0/ 8 among adults 18-49. But comparably, that was an improvement from year-ago failed occupant Journeyman (Viewers: 6.75 million; A18-49: 2.7/ 7 on Oct. 15, 2007). And the retention out of the second half of lead-in Heroes (Viewers: 9.01 million; A18-49: 4.4/10) was not terrible at 81 percent in viewers and 68 percent among adults 18-49. But what could be concerning is a loss of audience at 10:30 p.m. of 690,000 viewers (7.64 to 6.95 million) and six percent among adults 18-49 (3.1/ 8 to 2.9/ 7).

Overall, Heroes averaged 8.63 million viewers (#3) and a 4.2/10 among adults 18-49 (#2) -- which dipped considerably from one year earlier (Viewers: 11.41 million; A18-49: 5.2/12 on Oct. 15, 2007). Also on NBC was fading Chuck, with a fourth-place finish in both total viewers (6.01 million) and adults 18-49 (2.3/ 6) from 8-9 p.m.

Over at Fox, game four of the NLCS Championship Series could not compete at 7.28 million viewers (#4) and a 2.4/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#4) in primetime.

Capping off Monday was CW duo Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 3.34 million; A18-49: #5, 1.6/ 4) and One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 3.43 million; A18-49: #5, 1.7/ 4), which built from the year-ago rotation of Everybody Hates Chris, Aliens in America, Girlfriends and The Game by an average of 212,000 viewers and 70 percent among adults 18-49. In their target demos, both finished second in their time periods among women 18-34 (Gossip Girl: 3.4/ 9, One Tree Hill: 3.9/10). And One Tree Hill, in particular, ranked first in the 9 p.m. hour among females 12-34 (3.6/ 9), and second in adults 18-34 (2.6/ 7 – tie) and persons 12-34 (2.4/ 6). Too bad the CW is not like this every night.

ABC had an overall good night. SW fans have to be happy about the bump up from last spring's numbers. Boston Legal continues to basically bring its own audience to the 10pm hour. The show is not female-skewing like the rest of ABC's schedule and that's largely why it never got the attention from ABC it deserved. Either way, last night's episode was great!

CW continues to perform on Mondays as expected.
CBS had good results for its 8 to 9:30 lineup but I'm going to say that Worst Week is negatively impacting Miami (or it could be that Miami is just settling into its regular viewer numbers for the season). Still pretty darn good. NBC has to be pleased about MOWE debuting decently but it looks as if that 2nd half dip will lead to another Heroes killing on the peacock. Time to move that overrated piece elsewhere and let DOND and Medium return to Mondays.

Baseball did about as expected considering the lack of excitement over the teams on Fox.

Its retention from the Heroes lead in was better than most programs to have aired post-Heroes before.

As expected Worst Week got a bump up only because DWTS exited the time slot, and the weaker SW replaced it. Unfortunately, the way CBS loves Worst Week I am sure they will be very happy with the bump up, and call it a success. I have a feeling this will earn it at least a 13 week run.

Last night episode of Boston Legal was just amazing. Who cares about numbers anymore, to me now is just the pleasure of viewing the show go out on a high note.
Hope DEK can give us a big series finale, the show deserves it.

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

If you find my english is bad, it's because I'm italian. :-)

DWTS' demo numbers are in the toilet compared to last year! SW? getting a 4.5 in the demo when it premiered was only 90% retention... meaning DWTS' 9pm half-hour was a 5.0 last year! Anyway... SW will get some more mileage out of its timeslot, but its lifespan, like most other of last season's freshman, is strike-shorted (in fact, I think only BBT has emerged relatively unscathed).

Heroes - I'm a little surprised to see it gain viewers this week considering how TERRIBLE the show is this season. It's got one more episode until I take it off my season pass list. But a little gain I guess was to be expected since it no longer has DWTS in the 9:30pm half-hour as competition.

My Own Worst Enemy - Haven't watched yet, but I'm not surprised by the numbers. People looking at post-Heroes retention... stop. Heroes ain't a megahit any more.

Gossip Girl - one of the best episodes yet!

WW isn't doing all that bad.

Given the incredibly weak lead-in that Heroes was able to offer Enemy did OK, i think it'll settle around 7 million and get a full season, but it's to early to be certain

Once again i'm amazed how OTH beats GG in every category although it goes against much tougher competition. Great episode again, GG awful as usual (i watched yesterday's episode beacause of the baseball on FOX)

The retention level is better only because Heroes is becoming a sinking ship with its ratings.

I don't think CBS will keep it on for a full season simply because they have Rules waiting in the wings, but extra episodes could very well happen, since I'm guessing NBC would at least consider taking it on and placing it in their Thursday lineup.

MOWE has gotten pretty good reviews. I think it has at least a shot at a full season, not saying much though on NBC.

OTH's performance has more to due with higher HUT levels at 9pm than anything. Still great though for both CW shows. Nice to see a fifth English language network succeed and I'm holding out hope MNTV can get up to near CW levels too.

It looses in the demo to the 8:00 show, with a much higher HUT level and a huge lead-in. Yes, it is doing that bad. Its low numbers are also hurting Miami, which is apparently a lot more lead-in dependent than people thought.

Well I think had Heroes been doing better, MOWE would've too. From what I've read, its not that bad, but I'm not getting into it simply because I already have two commitments to that hour with Boston Legal and Raising the Bar, which I'll probably end up dropping too.
